My Dreams

Decided to post this in here, as it's serious, and I don't want none of you taking the piss, so I didn't post it in Chit Chat ot the GB.

Ever since 9/11 I've been getting bad dreams of planes crashing into the ground next to me in streets I walk in, Crashing into big buildings that I live near. Buses and trains exploding, Anything to do with terrorists. I've seen my body burn alive. I've tried to run away before I see the airoplane make contact with the ground. I look up to the sky to see SCUD missles and nukes flying through the sky as the atmosphere turns black, only to end in a white light and then see my own body disintigrate.

I nearly got blown up over in London, so that doesn't help the dreams as they nearly came true.

I can't sleep more than four hours a night. My parents know about this, and we just can't seem to fight it. Anyone give me serious advice? I don't want piss taking and bashing.

Some serious advice would to go to a professional that can give you some serious advice. The forums wouldn't be the place I'd find advice for something like this, although you are welcome to try :)

Yeah...I dont know what to say. Perhaps you should learn how to lucid dream.

Or you could adjust your sleep cycle. Don't sleep for longer than two hours, but take naps through out the day.

When I was about 14, I used to get this horrific re-occuring dream of my mom dying. It freaked me out terribly. We tried just about everything for a week before mom insisted I go at least to a family doctor ( I have this weird thing about psychyatrists being idiots, and bad advice givers.

Anyways, he told me to stay awake for an extended amount of time... say a day and a half, or as long as I could.. He also told me to let my body surpass the "I'm so tired, I'm not tired anymore" situation... Until I got tired again... In any matter, he said that this will cause you to fall asleep, VERY deeply. In this state most people don't dream. I didn't, and it broke my cycle, as well as caused me to sleep more deeply EVERY time, I still do to this day.

I say try it, it worked ofr me. Good luck.

Skooter, i completely agree about the psychyatrists being absolute idiots. I had to go see a "mental health nurse" today, mainly because ive started getting paranoid heaps, but also because ive been having horrible dreams every night for about a month, and i get killed atleast once every night, and i kinda respawn, like in battlefield or unreal tournament, and i die again. And the ways in which i get killed are absolutely horrific. I tried doing what your doctor told you to do, and wow did it work, but since i've been doing that i've been getting really sick. I've been told to sleep between 2am and 5 am, thats when your body needs to be asleep so it can get rid of this stress hormone. I agree, the not sleeping thing does work, but be careful, you might want to see your doctor before you try it, because it may affect you in a completely different way than it affects Scooter or myself.
Edit: You may also want to try writing down your dreams in like a diary or something each morning, it may help you by just doing that, or it may be a help to your doctor if you do go to see one.

My sister was taking a midrange Psychology at the University around here. Most of them were psych majors. The sad thing is that it seemed like the only people taking it were those who were screwed-up themselves. People who didn't buy the book, even when the professor said there would be things in it on the test that he wouldn't cover, and then when they get a D on the test... "THIS TEACHER SUCKS, HE NEVER WENT OVER THIS".

I'll tell you something from my own experience.
When i was younger, i used to go to a special school for Israelies who are gifted children.
Like the terorists in 9/11, (of course that time was way before 9/11) they used to teach us how to let our dreams to not become a nightmare horror.
They taught us this since the age of 5.
Since i was 5 (yes i remember this) i used to dream of a red figure underground, and things blowing up like a volcano. It doesn't seem scary to you when i describe it, but for a kid of the age of 5, seeing how might the devil may look, is like a monster under your bed. I didn't tell my parents about this, i used to cry at night, and go to the other room where my cousin was sleeping, and was found in the morning outside the house on the grass of our backyard.

After that i didn't sleep at all, for 4 years. (well maybe about 6 hours a day but i couldn't stop opening my eyes to check where i am when i past out).

Finally, all my feelings toward that dream vanished when it came true.
When i was 9, the school of gifted children (in Israel) was blown up with me, and other 210 kids in the building. Most of them were the age of 6, 7, and 9 (like me).
From that moment on i stopped having dreams/nightmares.
I lost almost every emotion i have gained, and my sensitivity (which is a big part of my family).
I have lived here, in America since the age of 9, and grew up still as a gifted child, but also, lost memory of what i was before the bomb.
I have started to pick up puzzles, and started having dreams, but not dreams you want to dream, but dreams that were a part of my life.
At age 15 i started having dreams of the bomb and all the death i saw.
I knew i had to live with it, but i was also trying to find a solution.

Finally at age 16 i went to my brother (who just graduated Princeton Univesity) who is a psychologist at his best. I told him about it, and he said this
"Take your sister to Israel and show her your past, and have fun"
I did as he said, he helped me buy tickets and my older sister (Sophia who also goes on this site, but is currently in Ukraine now) and i flew to Israel. Everyday i would pass my school (what's left of it) and let my present become my past.

And that's how i am back to who i was before so many years ago.
And that is how my sister also finally learned how to fight for her goals.

I don't want to continue this because it's way too personal, i just have to say this:
Don't let your past become your present, if you let it become your present, the only way to get rid of it is live through it again.

(Thanks) =D
