The Elegant Universe

Ok, Reach found this awesome website with cool stuff on String Theory
Its basically a PBS documentary based on Brian Greene's book "The Elegant Universe". The book is about relativity, quantum physics, and then string theory, which tries to combine the two.

You can watch these amazing videos that clearly explain it.
If you have an hour on hand, its good stuff, if you like physics.

Reach and I both think its really interesting stuff. Apparently I have to post it because my "IQ" is 2 points lower >_>
yeah so anyways, Watch the stuff, and discuss, its quite interesting if you get into it

You're ten months late, but this is still a great video.

I still can't get the concept that everything is made up of microscopic sperm. That idea will just never sit right with me.

And, no offense... if we get one more astrophysics thread in here, I'm going to scream. I feel like I've said the same thing in 8 different astro threads over the past 2 years.

Reach 09-2-2005 12:12 AM

Can't get enough astrophysics.

String theory was indeed interesting. Not much of a believer in multiple universes though >.>

Astrophysics is awesome, how can you get tired of it? >_>

GuidoHunter 09-2-2005 02:08 PM

It's still not as cool as quantum mechanics. I quickly tired of the very large when I started learning about the very small.

I get tired of explaining the same basic concepts over and over again to CT n00bs who don't check prior threads first.

Wasn't really directed at this thread.

Moogy 09-2-2005 10:35 PM

Yeah, I watched this a while ago. I've read the book, as well.

The idea of there being a unifying theory of everything is hard to believe. What did it say that they needed to help prove it, 14 dimensions or something?

Tasselfoot 09-11-2005 01:37 PM

Brian Greene came and spoke in the Physics department of NYU on Thursday. Alas... I didn't get to go. I was on a train home to Philly already.

:(

chickendude 09-11-2005 02:21 PM

=-o
thats pretty cool except for the fact you were on a train to philly <_<
Brian Greene sounds like a cool person
he's very stringy

GuidoHunter 09-11-2005 05:51 PM

Tass, I missed him, too, when he came to SMU soon after The Elegant Universe was released. The lamest part was that I forgot about the free Peggy Sue's barbecue before the lecture.

Yeah, I posted it 10 months ago as guido said, and even then it was actually a good 6 months to a year old. Still a good one though.
