A play concept

Okay, I'm just throwing this concept out here to see if it will sink or swim:

Teddy and Ingle are two roomates living together in an unnamed city. Ingle is unemployed and generally very lazy. Teddy, however, is a diligent worker who has close ties to his mother and father. His mother doesn't work, and his father is a priest.

Teddy constantly chastizes Ingle to get a job, which leads to many fights. One night, Teddy takes the remote from Ingle, and storms out after he finds that Ingle brought a drug dealer to the apartment who was then on the phone with Teddy's mother. While he is storming out, Ingle asks him to pick up cigarettes.

The phone rings, and Ingle answers it. It's Teddy's mother (who never actually called or spoke to the drug dealer) cancelling their dinner engagement. Ingle sits down, and retrieves a second remote because he left one on the counter. The phone rings again, and Ingle answers it. This time, it's a girl for Teddy, and Ingle copies the message down and goes back to the sofa. He's all out of remotes when he gets the idea to sell his soul for a fresh remote.

A demon named Robert emerges from the fridge with a soul contract, which makes Ingle uneasy; not about selling the soul, but about a lesser demon coming to claim it. He eventually gets up, walks over the counter and signs the contract when Roberts slides one of the original remotes over. Teddy comes back with a pack of cigarrettes, and they begin to discuss the poker game the next night. Ingle mentions that they're down a player, and Teddy says he can't play because he has dinner with his mother that night. Ingle mentions that she just called to cancel, and it's revealed that Ingle never brought a drug dealer to the apartment. Teddy is more releaved than angry, and agrees to play.

The next night, it's clear that Teddy lost very quickly. Ingle and a few other players are left, with Ingle low stack. He mentions under his breath that he really wishes he could sell his soul for a winning hand. Time stops and a new demon emerges from the fridge. This demon simply brings the contract over, and Ingle signs, the demon disappears. Ingle wins the poker game.

The next day, Teddy is napping and Ingle is playing Gamecube when Satan comes up with both soul contracts in hand, demanding to know what happened. Ingle explains both parts, infuriating Satan, because he is now down one soul. Ingle says, "Well, sorry. It's your fault for employing a demon that can't file paperwork on time," and as a truce, Satan takes half of Teddy's soul and says that the Demon fuck up extrodinair Robert has to live with them, because there is no room in hell for such a massive screw up and Heaven won't take him.

So, Robert comes up. He's pretty much a bum just like Ingle, and he's also a philosopher. Teddy realizes something is up because the girl from earlier visits and he is strangley unattracted to her. He questions Ingle about what happened when he was asleep and why there is a squat red man in his recliner.

The two men adjust to living with Robert, and the girl keeps making frequent visits. One day, she visits when both Teddy and Ingle are out, leaving her to have a conversation about poetry and the meaning of life with Robert the Philosopher Demon who says he's from the Phillipenes to explain his odd color. The girl realizes she's in love with Teddy, but Teddy can't feel love with only half a soul.

Teddy, in the mean time, gets a call from his father, the priest, explaining that there is a large Church convention in town and that he needs a place to stay. Ingle foolishly offers up part of the apartment, forgetting that they have Hellspawn living there. They spend this act trying to hide the demon from Father, who brings a large number of priests back. Robert is discovered and tries to talk his way out of it, but his philosophizing ways give him away as a demon. The Fathers exorcize him back to Hell...

Which pisses of Satan, who was doing fairly well without Robert. Satan comes back up with Robert, and tries to claim the bodies of Ingle and Teddy for breaking the contract again. Teddy's father steps in and brings up divine intervention, which makes Satan even angrier that he can't do anything about it. Ingle gets the idea to take Robert in exchange for Teddy's half soul and his entire soul. Satan agrees, and returns the souls.

Teddy gets hit with a ton of emotion for the girl, and realizes he's in love. Ingle realizes how powerful God is and begins training to become a man of Faith. Teddy and the girl get married by Ingle with Robert as the best man (Or satyr!), and they all go on to live happy lives.

Good concept?

Pretty good, not well, good play, moron.

Yea, I liked it, seems like it would fit as a comedic sitcom on like upn or something. With the demon being a lovable oaf or something.

I see that more of a flash series in my opinion. Not really as a play.

I think it could really funny... depends on the dialogue.

However, I think Teddy and Ingle need more to them... they're a bit cliche(the neat one and the messy one). Maybe some twist... give them unique reasons for being the way they are.

And there's something interrupting about the father coming and simply sending that guy back to hell...

Just... some first impressions. Sorry, I'm not really experienced in anything like this.

It's probably looking to be 4 acts, and I'm going to start back on it as soon as I get back to NY.

Act 1: Ingle sells his soul and half of Teddys, Teddy meets girl. The demon comes to live with them.

Act 2: Ingle and Teddy get used to the demon, the girl comes over more and more. Talks to the demon one on one.

Act 3: Hilarious hijinks insue as Ingle accidentally invites Teddy's father to stay, who brings priests back to the apartment.

Act 4: The priests get along with the Demon (They've stayed for several days) until he begins to philosophize and gives himself away. Resolution, marraige.
