What Men Are Afraid To Say (Another Gaia Treasure)
Well, I found another amazing post in Gaia and I thought I'd share it. Again, it's not mine and I give full credit to Girl Gamer of that site. I hope you enjoy because it's one of the best I've seen in ages.
Quote:
If one is to say, men deserve to become second hand citizens simply because women were in the past?simply because of their repression of women earlier in history, then one can also say every white male and female living today deserve to become slaves to Africans, and African Americans, simply because of what happened in the past.
Considering this, can any white female state men deserve to become second-class citizens because of what happened yesterday?
Now that that's out of the way, I'll say what I came here to say?
Woman have WON(Not are winning,) the gender war, and now that the victory is over, second-wave feminism is still growing WAY out of hand, and gears have shifted so far to the female ideal way of things, little boys are suffering in school-systems favoring little girls? to the point where women are receiving better school education then men.
Before anybody gets up and starts name calling, please not that this is an alarming phenomenon which men AND women are noticing.
40 years into second wave feminism, intelligent women are catching on to the fact that the male of the species is in a confused freefall. Sixty percent of North American college students are female. Projections surmise that women will be 2/3 of students on American college campuses by 2010.
We now live in a world entirely geared towards women's needs. The problem with this is men are people too, and are getting entirely left behind.
This is all because of the whole 'girl crises' concept.
A woman(and feminist at that) named Christina Hoff has written a book called 'The War Against Boys' which gives us hardcore data refuting this girl crises, concocted by Harvard's Carol Gilligan and promoted by the AAUW (American Association of University Women) in 1990, based on a survey funded by them of 3000 children. The media jumped to action without considering critiques, conferences multiplied, academics weighed in and soon Congress was passing laws to guard our girls against scholastic underperformance, through some miracle of mental acrobatics making small boys responsible, targeted as the evil container of that Y-chromosome responsible for so much damage.
As legal injury multiplied, careful reexaminations of statically superior numbers (70,000, 99,000 and 100,000 children from 40 states) showed the opposite - that boys were most at risk, under performing in schools, ignored by teachers, feeling rejected by the system - the AAUW buried it, including their own data supporting these results from a later study.
Instead, they conference-coached teachers and gender activists: "There will always be [those] who will insist the Holocaust didn't happen." And of all the laughs, "...revisionists so distort facts (that their) take on history loses all semblance of reality." By this time the U.S. Department Of Education had become the strong-arm and money stream for the AAUW and its team - NOW, the Ms. Foundation, WEEA (Women's Educational Equity Act), the Wesley Center, NCSEE (National Coalition For Sex Equity In Education). Legislation rode the wave and now school boards live under terror of costly lawsuits laying claim to ready abuses of Title IX and the ludicrous notion that small boys are sexual "proto-predators" to be subjugated. Like the now infamous story of Jonathan Prevette who in 1996 kissed a female classmate, then was punished for sexual harassment. He was six years old. Sommers notes the boy who performed the ultimate outrage of hugging a girl. His parents were told his punishment was due to the fact "He's a toucher", at age three. In 1997 a Glebe Elementary nine-year-old was cuffed, fingerprinted and charged with aggravated sexual battery for rubbing against a girl when he reached for an apple in the lunch line.
Boys are growing up, not respectful, but utterly terrified of females.
Such zealotry is a matter of the weekly news now. And all of it funded with US tax dollars. The DOEd, approaching $100M, funneled to the AAUW for more nonsense, the teacher's guide "Quit It!"?books and working papers on gender equity by the hundreds of thousands crisscrossing the continent, hunting for those dangerous boys one day to be "males socialized to destructive masculine ideals".
Here's how the laws get changed by a legislature as ignorant of science as Katherine Hanson and her WEEA (funded by the DOEd) when she reported: "Every year nearly 4 million women are beaten to death; Violence is the leading cause of death among women; The leading cause of injury among women is being beaten by a man at home; There was a 59% increase in rapes between 1990 and 1991".
59%? In one year?
As Sommers notes, Hanson's first claim requires 11,000 women beaten to death per day. Wouldn't somebody notice? Not even the Taliban could commit such crimes. The FBI shows 3631 women were murdered in the same year - tragic, but slightly short of 4 million, by a multiplicative factor of 1100. The leading cause of death among women is heart disease (370,000), followed by cancer (250,000). Hanson is right about one thing, rapes did increase, but by 4%, just shy of 59.
What's happening to boys is played out at our universities under the guise of speech codes (The Shadow University) and Women's Studies where girls are unnecessarily scared senseless of males then learn to despise them as threats (Feminism And Domination), all the while as boys vanish from campus. As the PBS News Hour's Clarence Page said in his essay (March/05), noting the failure of young men in school, at jobs and relationships as young women excel, "The problem with we men is we're not women." The problem with Page and his elites is we are not allowing boys to be men, as they are ignored, vilified and grow up ingesting sit-coms and TV commercials that portray males as animals, vulgar, aimless fools with a woman in the background to save them from their monstrosities.
Ever see the show 'Anybody loves Raymond?'
The war against boys will give us just what we're getting, disaffected males laden with rage for reasons they can't even articulate. Sommers' book compiles the obvious into a critical mass.
To the boys and girls of go-gaia: go to amazon and check out the book 'The War Against Boys' and read the comments made by MOTHER's who have both girl and boy children?. They all say their girls are happy and content in school, while their boys are failing, have no interest in the system and are generally depressed.
And why? Because of hard-core feminism, boys today are just miserable being boys.
Sommers also notes that the plight of the American woman is highly exaggerated, and that it's not politically correct to be "pro-masculine." Being "pro" men (particularly white men) doesn't generate the revenue. The overriding assumption is that because many legislators are white men, then surely they will watch after the interests of men.
Obviously not.
Sommers points out that it is men who are suffering academically. Men are the ones who drop out of school. Boys are losing their fathers, and thus their male role models. The feminist response to this is that masculinity, by its very nature, is bad. Aberrations of male behavior (such as the shooting at Columbine) are seen as men in their natural condition, while aberrant female behavior is seen as unusual and/or psychopathic (e.g. Susan Smith drowning her children). Do men commit more crimes? Undoubtedly. But what percentage of men are committing the crimes? And even more specifically, what are the common traits among these felons?
Further, is it logical that this minority of male felons is representative of "most men?" The feminist answer to the male problem is to have men become women. Teachers in some schools have tried to feminize boys by getting rid of recess and spelling bees(competitive activities in which the male brain can excel), forcing them to participate in quilting, advocating that they wear dresses, or switch ... roles with girls all in the name of androgyny. The feminization of boys is leading to a backlash that is much worse than finding 'creative' outlets for testosterone.
America is blind to problems of boys because of the crisis writers who have falsely presented girls as victims when they are doing better than the boys.
Sommers, says it's time to reintroduce morality into the classroom. Encourage boys to be boys, and stop giving them the subliminal messaging that their broken, and females are better creatures by nature. Allow our boys them to use the inherent strength of masculinity and channel it in productive ways. In other words, boys and girls really are different and pointing the finger at socialization is akin to trying to fix a broken fuel injector by painting the car blue.
The way things are going, boys are beginning life with a low self-esteem, taking it with them into high school, and dropping out there as well as college.
In the end, Sommers gives us a disturbing picture of men that are simply not allowed to (politically) fight for themselves and then offers a re-installation of morality into the classroom as a solution.
One mother says 'This hypocritical society keeps reminding boys that gender equality is a one-way street. In my little town, for example, it's OK to have a "girls-only" soccer league, but boys' teams are not allowed to exclude girls. My 10-year-old son put it quite succinctly when he asked: "Why is it OK for girls to wear shirts that say 'Girl Power,' but there's no shirts that say 'Boy Power'? "
We simply are not treating young boys properly. They are not responsible for how men have behaved in the past. We need to start giving them the kind of educational and behavioral attention that girls are deservedly receiving before it is too late. Our prisons keep getting more overcrowded everyday, and it isn't with women. Our sons are falling behind in school, and surely not as many boys have ADHD as are being treated for it! We can have healthy sons AND daughters. One doesn't cancel out the other
In the quest to assure that females/girls/women/lesbian what have you were and are treated in a fair and equitable manner, we, in many ways thru the baby out with the bath water, and boys who will someday grow into men and many, become fathers, are being sent messages that in many ways are making them fear women and not respect them.
One teacher says, ?I really hated many females for their actions and indifference to more gender-balanced issues. As a teacher, I see many young men today and even men older than myself with what I feel is a dangerous mindset.?
One young man says 'The men of my age grew up on Ally McBeal, Sex and the City, and now see Desperate Housewives. Yes, these shows have been written by men, and even one by an unabashedly unmasculine, effeminate male-homosexual who never knew a father (what the hell would he know about real, heterosexual men then?). Nevertheless, these shows have revealed to us, in the emulating of the female characters on these shows, just how inane, vain, and often times useless and idle women can be are often sadly are. Men today do not aspire to marry as they use to in the past. We no longer see women sympathetically as in the past. What we do see and feel about women is that they have it so incredibly easy, given so much preferential treatment in both school and work. It has become fashionable for women today to live in fantasia, deluded more often to believe their biology has created them superior to men (e.g. The First Sex by Helen Fisher, or Woman: An Intimate Geography by Natalie Angier).
This young man continues, and says ? Men of my generation are just sick of this nonsense and having seen them in their full spectrum see women as a whole as a horde of conformist morons easily sold on an Oprah-stylized presentation of good-feel sophistry and psychobabble outright lies. The misandrist loves to blame men for all societal ills, citing it is men who are terrorists, rapists, murderers, criminals, and the most exemplary of the world's undeniable sc**. How easy it is to forget that the vast majority of men are inherently good, willing to sacrifice their lives for the liberties so many easily take for granted, and who often are cut down in youth.?
On an ending note: Feminism has made it so in today's world, it's simply BETTER to be a female than a male, period. Just looking around the internet, you can go to forums, and see that in today's society, more and more boys honestly wishing they'd have been born female? yet, this desire is a ONE WAY STREET. How many girls today honestly wish they'd been born male for a 'better, easier, life?' This is such an unhealthy imbalance.
Equality has more than been achieved. It would be stupid to argue otherwise. Men have lost the war of the sexes, are dropping out in school more and getting less education. Over the past five years, more women have gotten more bachelor degrees than men, female pay increases are rising, while men's are falling, and in the future, with this educational imbalance, women will have more powerful job positions than men. Women should be equal, not better. We are all people.
Men, you are the new second class. Women, congratulations.
For those people(especially white-radical-feminists) who are happy about this, and think men are getting just what they deserve, I'll let you know that African Americans are awaiting their turn at slavery-ownership!
It's what's deserved to them, after all.
Any woman concerned about the welfare of her sons in today's school, and the welfare of men in general should read The WAR AGAINST BOYS: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men, written by a very feminist female at that!

She has hit reciprocity at its core and done exactly what many men, including young men such as myself, are afraid to say for fear of ruining their credibility by sounding like sexist pigs. I applaud her.
