Good at Cryptography? ($5 reward)
Here's the deal . . . in my calc class we have finished up with all our material for the year and now we're doing a scavenger hunt with a series of cryptography puzzles.
There are 7 total and my team is on the last one but it is CRAZY hard, and we don't even know where to start. Previous codes we cracked told us to hum "Happy Birthday" to our teacher when we solved it. The last one we solved told us to get a GPS device from our teacher and it also had coordinates of where we could unbury a CD with our final puzzle on it. Right now our team is the only one on the last cryptogram and if we solve it before October 15th he will give us $100 (for solving all 7) which we will split 5 ways. If anyone here can solve this last cryptogram I will pay pal or just plain send $5 in an envelope to you. Think you're up for it? Here it is: hQIOA28TwSGLd1KYEAf9GvvucKxdL7Ex0C2tYU5/6Hv0iXSYo9JBMRTzE0V/WV5a jwUj1ReaZaD+xQKao+1P0sLM9rWEO4NAvIKLM0g28itmubewudOi23x6HipvaTca fFrvSMB0xqxR0WrFNKZmIgFa2WS0J9D9pbuZOniS+61myDnKaU5mESPQdS2OvwU1 r9dasQh8+qAlMqZNIA6u9wxcR8wrPNGOx5njoHa7LEyrYmre7XIUeLj4jlDDWYgH tRg2xth0oisHkLITX1k/m81l8GhPw40GVmLgAaOmHvOX9E2yq6W76LxQS0zUXvu8 SkxJFT0ijVpTqp2Izj2oZxezWXJmS2r+PM7xSTpNXQf+OtZ9ehySfJt29ZjozX14 ZhDoM77QguJu7LrhMKL1RNRXhnS6VBr9bwjSXWDizeho3BphVixJVYuMMmRgxTs+ fTTLmPnVKEGoH9a6pYRaZZWRA9UKZAnv9Faprnz+AZR1x7lMMbaeIGImEuO0L8ai dbAfOUco3Y6Yp4CtORaicQFLk3r+x/2ES68FDRPe4UGHpjNNqUqOZU55ZRZ2ign+ B0K3zo/n7owliVGm2Fkvwotwb/3qMA2JIHZ1eJG+0fdabZrW15OCeVrz30YVl0TU rYSeRvLjvJPjgCkCx0gB7nw9qWNKPuS/HoRXXQv2cSYh0pCMYNqLtIfeZo6mbier f9LAKgGoPgw+c4XecEwDMRvTM+CqXFUGNBM8Z051mwTey7n8zmEo7YVj2dl4LRcV F7m8SPZIpcE6Mj2f31589bjKs9z3rW/Cye2AJr+jFWlQ8NWZkghNWMgGg6lje1Te 4HLr3Dn9mWeNjaTvuqC13u46ccsbmsqEP8TMxP5ENQ791VdxpdiEbW7Ofjju3r0S KS/7SZaNtJwhvTWw0fHNzrz0iwJz2xQrIlXc6pVRBLZ6jWpbb0Q9tt1TIq0YCcj2 HAqyuGpqkjRzC0zKzkver+3Y+rGmGYIwaLZRB2ej3VwnZNKbkTJ3eWGnr6lQwg== =PmaP Before we started the first one, he told us to look for "Basset says" somewhere. This does not apply to all of them and we're not sure if it's in this one. Edit: We're thinking it's in or including Base 64, but I know nothing about Base 64 so I'm lost with it. |
RE: Good at Cryptography? ($5 reward)
I can convert it from Base 64 assuming it is, but will that honestly do anything at all? It would make all of that into a number.
The very fact that you had to use a GPS to unbury a CD scares me enough. ~Squeek |
RE: Good at Cryptography? ($5 reward)
Well, if it DOES have something to do with Base 64, don't you think it would be a bit to find a rule with series of numbers rather than lowercase letters, capital letters, and numbers all mixed together?
Either way, my teacher did not design this to be an easy task. |
RE: Good at Cryptography? ($5 reward)
Yay me for deleting the source code to my base converter.
Anyway, Googling "Base 64 converter" yielded several sites. All of which returned this: Code:

Is it a computer based code or do you not know?
|
Unfortunately we have no clues about this one. Hopefully we can manage to get some kind of hint before school is out, though.

ask banditcom. He's smart, but will probably ask for more than 5

Looks a helluva lot like MD5 to me, but then again, so does everything.

First of all, have you even tried converting this out of base 64? I would suggest converting it into base 8 first, since it would be easier to work with. But anyways, I tried decoding it, but so far I have nothing.
I thought the code might be ASCII, so I converted it to that first. I used the last 4 letters as a sample (since that obviously produces 3 ascii values), but all I got was (hex) 67 09 19 (when I used capitals for 10 to 35) and (hex) CD 62 B3 (when I used lower-case for 10-35). Since neither of these seem like useful hex, that theory went out the window. If you want to convert this, see if you can find out whether capital or lower-case is 10 to 35, and also try to match up + and / with 62 and 63. |
i've already tried ascii to hex to unicode, withh no luck
|
What is your teachers name?
|
James Basset.
We still have made no progress on this puzzle. |
Ok, sorry for the month bump, but what was the answer for this, did you find out?
