Stepmania Injury

I play pretty darn hard. I slam those keys like I've never heard anyone do. I'm the same way when writing; I write so hard that the pencil marks go right through the paper and come up as visible lead on the desk/next page of notebook/other writing surface.
So I have this weird feeling like a bone spur(I know what this feels like cause I had a heel spur once and it SUCKED) when I use my right index finger. I've had to switch from that and middle to middle and ring. This kinda sucks =(
Anyone else messed themselves up playing a VIDEO GAME~

I never have gotten a game related injury, but my sister twisted her ankle playing DDR once.

Kilgamayan 10-20-2004 08:57 PM

I pulled a muscle in my back while playing FOTBB Rock. Pulled it on the beginning hold, of all places.

Hurt to move for about three weeks afterward.

Nothing huge, but when I first got KI gold I played it so hard that I got a callous on the tip of my thumb. So, I switched to the knuckle on my thumb (I can bend my thumb back ninety degrees without help from other fingers. Almost 180 if I push it). I got a callous there, so I tried to use the area in between, but it was too painful, so I had to stop for a few days.

Video games? No. I don't know how you can...

The only thing I fear when playing stepmania is a future case of carpal tunnel. Then I'd have to get Super Blue Stuff.

I play like that anyway mwerp, index middle on left hand middle ring on right, but it must suck to have a hurt finger. Maybe now someone will realize how hard it is to trill the right hand.

Back when I was hardcore into DDR I would play it for hours and hours...nonstop (god, that was so fun...and pathetic) Well, I modded my own DDR pad (this was before all the jazz that have these days with foam and metal and whatnot.) Basically I duct taped a soft pad to 1 inch of particle board. Not the greatest idea, after awhile the duct tape started to bunch up which ultimately resulted in me getting many blisters on the bottoms of my feet.

Nonetheless, it was worth it. And to this day I will not wear shoes while playing DDR, not even in the arcade.

Also, the tips of my thumps were numb for 3 days from playing Gran Turismo 3 all night.

I got shin splints from playing Max300 too hard in DDR. I failed it, too....

It's where your calf muscle (I think that's the one) STARTS TO SEPARATE ITSELF FROM THE BONE OH SHIT.

Still ran a 7:30 mile with the condition, which is not shabby at all (for me...).

Oh wait, I do remember now. Back in the day when game controllers weren't as comfy as they are now, I basically brought my thumbs to a bloody state playing SNES games all day for weeks straight. It was well worth it to beat all three DK games in one week.

Heh I have shin splints right now. I still run though because I have an extremely high threshold for pain(but not for this, it just feels really weird) and I'm all for working past the injury and bettering yourself that way. It worked for my friend when he had his in like 7th grade, and his shin splints went away as a result.

I NEVER understood why this happened to people. We played the shit out of Mario Party and nobody ever got a blister or tore up their hand.

Don't know if you'd call this a game, exactly, but I've broken 3 toes, a foot, two foot stress fractures, a sprained ankle (twice), and a stress fracture in my ankle, all from Karate.

Glanzer_Syne 10-20-2004 11:37 PM

Just 4 days ago (and it still hurts) i refused to stop playing quasar for like 4 hours.

My hand turned purple and swelled up

sleeplessdragn 10-21-2004 12:02 AM
