Scores have been updated to here.

Unfortunately, while I understand that some of you didn't realize when the last round was ending, I do feel like I did everything I could to point out that Round 4 would be ending at a different time than usual. The only reason it was that way is because I was about an hour and a half behind on posting the round info (which, again, I apologize for, that was on me) and I wanted to give you guys the full week to submit. That said, I won't be accepting any of the late scores, as that was established at the start of the tournament, and it would be unfair to those in previous rounds who didn't get a score in if I accepted these ones now.

As frustrating as this is, given that I have the lead in my division and can prove in multiple ways that I got the score days before the deadline, I respect your decision. I'll keep posting scores and pretend this didn't happen I guess...

Enjoy the rest of the tourney, everyone!

Yeah, I'm sorry for not being able to accept it. I definitely feel like this is mostly my fault, as if I had posted the round when it should have been up, the round would have ended at its normal time and there wouldn't have been any confusion. I should have left the round time alone, and just had the overall time shortened by an hour and a half. Though now I know for any future events what to do.

Yeah, I think an hour and a half doesn't mean much over the course of a week. But more importantly, I think late penalties (as in Badman's tourney) make more sense than flat out DQ's, which can happen as a result of a silly mistake. I would have totally understood taking a hit for 100-200 points or so, but losing eligibility feels a tad extreme.

No sweat, you're doing an awesome job!

Spon con time! Again!

For this spon con, all you have to do is guess which Monstercat song I'm thinking of by posting the name of the song in the thread (you can only guess one song at a time, of course). I'll be giving you all three hints. The first person to guess the correct song will recieve 8,000 credits! (These are not part of the prize pool.) So, without further ado:

1.) This song was made by a zombie, not the guy in the wheelchair (even if he is dead).

2.) I'm not sure how they got there, but hopefully they can make it back in one piece.

3.) From my Perspective, this is one of their best songs.

Yeah, if I run another tournament in the future, I'll definitely be taking late scores. I feel pretty bad about the whole thing, but it's a learning moment, at least.

Reason for my late score last round is the weird naming convention of AM and PM.
Thought 12:30 AM would be 1 hour after 11:30 AM (that's when I submitted post :P)

With all due respect, do you live by military time, or somewhere where time is calculated differently, because.. wow. That's a new one.

This is a super common mistake, not a "new one" at all. I mess this up all the time.

XJ-9 09-28-2020 03:06 PM

Re: Monstercat Tournament

From personal experience, I do see people confuse 12 PM for 12 AM often enough to call it common, which is why rounds generally end at 11:59 PM. However, I don't see it happen often where someone adds an hour to 11:## PM and doesn't convert the 12:## result to AM, or vice versa. Perhaps the latter is what T-Force is referring to? That seems to be more ingrained in people.

On the topic of the unplanned round extension:
In all fairness, whether or not the participant can correctly interpret a 12-hour clock is entirely on said participant being able to do that correctly. Not to say that anyone disagrees or finds that unfair here, but more importantly waiting until the end of a seven day round to post an initial score is just an unnecessary risk regardless of the exact time the round ends. I can't really find a good excuse for doing that, barring personal emergencies.

I'm kind of on the fence about allowing late scores with a point deduction when the rounds are a week long since punctuality is a big part of competition. I can see it as being more practical with shorter rounds since you don't have as much time to bounce back if something comes up in your life. If you can't post a score within a week's time, it sounds like it's not a good idea to sign up for the tournament to begin with.

I live somewhere where we don't use AM and PM. Instead of 2 PM we use 14:00, as example.
Till now I used the conversion rule: AM means I can read it normally, while PM means I need to add 12 hours.
Apparently that rule does not work for 12:30 AM. It'd make more sense if 00:30 AM was used instead.

Edit: I don't mind about my score not being allowed, not like it'd cause me to get higher on the leaderboard anyway :D

This was my exact reasoning when I decided to make the rounds a week long with no late scores. Participants have an entire week to post a score, and it's not like they're only allowed to send in one score only. You can update your score as many times as needed, whenever you want. And it's not like the scores are hidden from anyone else, everyone can see them, so it's not even a thing about "getting sniped" because of posting an early score. As you said, waiting until the last minute to submit is an unnecessary self-imposed risk on the participant's side, since the rules are clearly defined from the start.

If you had submitted the score along with this post, I would have accepted it, as the round was not over at that time. I simply posted the new round info slightly early out of necessity on my end. However, seeing as the round has been over for a while now, and following the precedent I've set for myself in the rest of the tournament, I can't accept a Round 5 score now. I apologize for the confusion, and the loss of participation credits.
