I'm sorry for what I said about Russia

You guys are awesome, I really like your language and culture. I'm sorry for calling your language needlessly convoluted, you guys are awesome!

I'm hoping to stop by and say hello to my buddy's grandma someday, but first, I gotta get back to studying Russian, but college is too expensive.

Don't worry, I will soon go there and try all the food and beers your country has to offer! I'm actually kinda looking forward to it, I've seen pictures of St. Petersburg, and it looks like a beautiful city. I've seen the siberian wolves too, and I wanna pet one up close, so cute :D

Russia is an amazing country; one which I misjudged.

i legitimately have no idea how you can endorse russia given the bullshit that's been going on this week and the fact that you are a member of the lgbt community

Never said I liked their homophobia, just their language and culture.

Also, what "bullshit" are you speaking of?

I know very little about the country Russia. I know a lot of trending and dated meaningless propaganda riddled with euphemisms and allusions of Russia that have plagued American media forever though.

Russian culture and their language and history etc is all very interesting and can be appreciated without thinking "Oh, look, a bunch of homophobes". But you can look at whatever details you want.

The vibe may be that they all think and act as one unit and their ideologies pool into one collective homophobic typhoon but nah there's individuals there too

Hell if I'm going to be supportive about any of their business, for me it's like looking at a zoo.

Russians are cool, this applies universally to any place's citizens (except New Jersey, fuck those guys). Vladmir Putin is not cool.

You can attack aspects of a culture without attacking the citizens of that culture

To say that "there are individuals in that culture" doesn't really mean anything in the context of cultural analysis

But the question is why would you attack aspects of a culture if they're not attacking you? Unless you live in the culture that's directly infringing or oppressing your own subjective rights and personal freedoms to live as a human, it's really no place for anybody to pass that judgement. Live and let live. To keep your proverbial swords sheathed unless someone draws their blade first. If everyone was able to do so, people would understand the reason humanity forged blades in the first place. to defend life, not take it.

You can also attack an aspect of a culture without attacking other aspects of that same culture if you so choose

I love Russian style ballet, it's the style of ballet I was trained in as a kid. I went to see the Moscow ballet company last year when they visited Canada. I was so excited, but they were very disappointing, I will be going to see Canadian dancers this year

Because we can (and should) care about the human rights of people in other countries

Exactly. Though why do you feel need to attack rather than defend?

islamic countries routinely murder homosexuals and beat/rape women but I live in north america so meh I'm not being oppressed so I'm just gonna let them do them!
I think that if a country or culture is violating human rights then that proverbial has already been drawn for a very long time
