PM's sent out. Just as a fyi, I sent out the PM's based off the current version of the spreadsheet, so there may have been people that submitted after the spreadsheet was last updated but before I sent those PM's, so if that's the case, my apologies.

Sorry that you had to end up dropping out. It's kinda tricky...since it's a rates tourney, I feel like the majority of the song picks would either force jacks or force patterns where you have repeated notes that are as fast as jacks or something. It would probably help a bit if we picked files that were just pure stream or pure jumpstream, but that would make the tourney a little stale (and also unbalanced). I understand your frustrations though.

I feel like it's only going to get worse as we progress through the rounds...I apologize to the lower divisions in advance! n.n;

With certain exceptions, it's usually the case that your division is based on your skill level at the beginning of the tournament. So simply improving throughout the duration of the tournament wouldn't be grounds for moving you up a division.

Most of the exceptions come from the concept of sandbagging where players try to hide their true level of skill at the beginning of the tournament in order to have what appears to be a skillboost when in actually that was their actual level of skill all along.

I would say that comparing scores between players in round 1 is probably not the best way to get an idea of placements for two main reasons:

1) the file tests a very particular skill: jacks. Since this file tests a single particular skill, there is gonna be a good amount of variance on how well people do on this file depending on how good or bad people are on that particular skill. In particular, I feel like jacks and trills are one of those skills where it's very easy for a player to be good or bad at them compared to the rest of the people in their division since it's mostly a test of raw mechanical ability. Like there are probably people out there who have never played a rhythm game in their life that are able to jack or trill at levels comparable to D6 or D7 players.

2) for a lot of players in this tournament, they are experiencing rustiness since they have not played in awhile. With that said, people are placed not on their current skill level but on their best skill level that they've had in the past (as interpreted by their levelranks). Because of this, it might seem that some placements seem odd if looking at tournament scores in a relative sense since different people started the tournament at different levels of rust. As an example, I'm in D5 and my round 1 score is better than a handle of people in D6, despite the fact that jacks are my worst skill. But I know that I am nowhere close to being a D6 player so those players are experiencing a more serious case of rustiness than I am.

Since this placement seems to be controversial, I'll look into this placement a little bit more closely.

They were originally placed in D2; it turns out that their levelranks were not indicative of their skill level at all at the time of placement. Looking at it a bit more closely, it seems that their scores are likely to be closer to the scores that are being achieved in D5. I'll into this placement a bit more.

this feels like haruka; I had trouble and didn't feel like working on it.

so why is this so fun?

I think it's because of the notes being paired like red / pink and purple / blue instead of red / yellow hell

Just a very slight rate increase and the song speeds up a lot. Oh no.

It seems to be that the score one gets for 45 (raw) goods does not match the minimum raw score required (60090).

So which one of these two is used for setting the requirements of this round: The maximum number of raw goods or the minimum raw score?

Thanks for pointing this out. I had accidentally looked at my current score (instead of the max score) when doing the calculations which is the case for the discrepancy (I have yet to AAA this file). I've updated the post and the OP (45 goods is correct).

Got this pretty easily, so it can be a placeholder while i figure out what rate i can realistically do.

Regardless I apologize if I've stirred up any drama. I'm simply pointing out what I see as obvious. Any one that knows me in d5 knows that my strong suit is jacks and I couldn't even begin to imagine obtaining a 2.75x. Hopefully a skill boost comes out of this for me otherwise I'm hooped like every other tourney.
