contrapatior 03-14-2017 10:17 PM

Re: THREAD MOTHAFUCKAS MINTY 2 BITCHES NEW PACK YEAH

Not that I've seen?
I did some wonky expressive syncing for hallelujah, but I'd hardly call it x mod

Don't forget that this is a dump pack. From my side of things, I would say vg music is fine.
There's tons of interesting vg music.

to me the term stepmanias musics is a descriptor of style/essence, not origin or even genre

something like the tristram theme/byzantium is fine, but don't send me straight 16ths to a static bpm generic 8bit wannabe track

Re: THREAD MOTHAFUCKAS MINTY 2 BITCHES NEW PACK YEAH

guess that's my cue to get crackin' again on my rechart for la notte etterna (hold on to that spot for me pls)

also how in the fuck has our despicably unholy generic african mammal not charted this beauty yet
(I might actually end up doing it myself if I find the time to do it though)

also vatstep dsp hahahaha fucking gay

but what if it had a saxophone solo in the midst?

Oh whatever, I stepped this and I'm just gonna send it.

Re: THREAD MOTHAFUCKAS MINTY 2 BITCHES NEW PACK YEAH

note: released files will not be considered since lofty and i require the ability to work with people on their charts during the pack creation process, so unless you're committed to significantly altering an already released chart to the degree that it may be considered a restep, don't send it. If you wish to release a file in another pack that has been accepted to the pool, notify me and I'll remove it from the pool. Also you guys suck first locked spot is going to this asshole i swear this isnt semiautoism (technically swiftwinter was first but i couldnt resist using the word semiautoism)

restep dsp (lofty) - yeah its good. And what you stinky mother fucker you want something from me?

emerald alice (klaius) - unfortunately this is the lowest energy and least interesting hatsuki yura song I've heard, and the file reflects that. I'm not sure you could have done anything more with the chart to make up for it, and I don't really have any suggestions at the time. It's good enough for the pool but I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the first cut when the time comes.

Best Friends and Bike Rides (klaius) - ok you've got something pretty nice going on here. My only major complaint is that the 32nds into 4th hands that form minijacks with the 16ths (52s/63s) are not only a good measure harder than anything else, but they feel forced and awkward. Repattern them or just remove the component of the hands that form the minijacks. Also, 78.6s has a 2211 same-hand minijack, which should be repatterened/removed given that no other similar patterns exist within the file. I'd like to see the file extended another 30s or so until the slowdown, but it's not required. With fixes you have my vote for a locked spot.

City of Revelry (Antronach) - You've got me on a fence with this one and my ass is starting to hurt. This is very borderline stepmanias music to me and were it not for both the sax and the way in which you stepped the sax this would be an instant reject. The chart itself is very promising, with emphasis on the promising. I'll get a little more detailed with my comments on this chart.

39-42s: I'd like to see something more creative/interesting to the sax sound here, I think you're missing out on some pretty good opportunity (though I can understand why you have what you do)
64-111.5s: This whole section is too easy and uninteresting and it breaks the flow of the file. This is sort of like writing a murder mystery in which during buildup to the climax you spend 4 chapters on a character that has nothing to do with the rest of the story whatsoever. I don't think much is needed to fix the issue though, I think with a more prominent/rigid jack theory structure you could keep the 16ths you have and it would be fine, you could also consider putting short 32nd or 24th burst patterns to the heavy bass hits. I don't want to beat a dead horse but this entire section really feels like a let down given how much fun the prior minute was.
120-123s: The buildup here could be more heavily layered/interesting, I can understand why you left it as empty as you did if you were giving the player space for the climax however...
123:124.5s: No. I know you can do better than this because you already spent half the file showing me you could. This is way too hard compared to the rest of the file and significant departure from how you charted much of the other sax sounds. The sax is your god in this file, I would abandon trying to layer in the snare(?) hits and do what you've already been doing, weave 48ths/light polys/light 32nd js together here and I think you've nailed the climax and tied up the entire file with a nice ribbon.
128s: I'd like to see a descending 32nd roll here to match the echo of the ascending. This also gives you an opportunity to end the file on a closing note and cut the ffr outro.

I'm adding this to the pool with the expectation of major changes, but unlike some (most?) of the other files in the pool this stands a 0% chance of making it into the final cuts without revision. If you want to keep it as-is and pull it as a submission, that's also fine.

Future Swag (choof) - I assume you're submitting the oni chart. Also, lmao.

Bandira Bandira (lofty) - When HSMP meets 2017. I think you went a little too far with some of the jack sequences in the outro and we can discuss edits later.

Migrant at Daybreak (swiftwinter) - It's like a more playable rockhill. This is also something that I'll have to play a bunch to really get a good grasp on the file, so no comments for now. On the subject of your other submission, I've played the fixed version a couple times through expecting to be able to pick out glaring pattern awkwardness, but I couldn't. I find the 32nd slow trill transitions slightly awkward but that's about it and that could just be me. Both lofty and I are comfortable to bumping this up to locked, though we may still ask for minor changes in the future as the file gets played out more.
