Classical Song Update!
I've been wondering forever why the classical section hardly ever gets any new music. I love classical music in general, and am always hoping that new songs would be added. It just seems that the FFR gods don't care for classical genre whatsoever. What's the point in even having it if it's never updated?
I do love all the piano solos and want A LOT more of them. If nobody gives me any straight answers here, I'll just pm mods or something. Point me in the right direction so I can let someone know what needs to be done. Thanks! |
Re: Classical Song Update!
Classical music is the hardest music to make stepfiles for. Believe me, I've tried.

Re: Classical Song Update!
Classical music often forces stepartists to use multitudes of tempos and it is an absolute nightmare trying to keep things synced properly. If the charts go off-sync, judges will penalize the file in the judgment process.
In addition to that, the permission process is quite hairy. Despite many classical compositions being in the public domain, you then have to deal with the process of gaining permission of the given performance (or, as a few brave souls have done: try to transcribe it and make it sound good yourself). |
Re: Classical Song Update!
hey i found some staff and stepartists
one other thing is you could use a MIDI of the piece (or, again, obtain one with permission from its creator) but those aren't super high quality usually, and definitely not as good as real recordings. it sure takes a few extra steps than the typical FFR song to get a classical piece in game |

And charting your own is hardly an option if you're not willing to undertake learning PR, layering and dick syncing to an expert level. I was trying a bit ago to try and get permission for a song that I got Scin to help me with, but the site wouldn't let me send the message. I should probably try that again. Thanks for the reminder. It's seven minutes long tho :troll: |
Re: Classical Song Update!
It can take hours to step 30 or 40 seconds of a classical file. It's really demanding.
Although, the classical genre got an update very recently! If you want to get pedantic, okay fine Saint-Saens is from the Romantic era, not strictly Classical, but we're using the layman's definition here. Plus it's hard to argue Le carnaval des animaux, Movement no. 14 ''Finale" doesn't belong in the genre on FFR. Quite a hard file too, go check it out :) |
Re: Classical Song Update!
If you want to help getting more classical music on FFR, the best thing to do would be to try to get permission from performers.
Of course, all the good performers are signed to deals which want money to license the recordings, which is something FFR cannot do. As much as I'd want a Chopin waltz by Stephen Hough or etude by Valentina Lisitsa on FFR, it's not going to happen. Instead, try reaching out to skilled but unsigned performers that you know. One of the best sources I think that FFR really hasn't tried to tap is university level music students. If you know say a college music major who is able to sit down and bust out Liszt's Mazeppa competently, ask for recordings! It would help a lot. Doesn't even have to be any of the virtuosic staples, I for one would be glad to step some simpler classical music too. But good recordings are a must. It's already hard enough stepping live music; a shitty mp3 doesn't make it easier :( |
Re: Classical Song Update!
Scint would make midis. But this was a long while ago. I would love to step classical music but the patience for a good sync is something I lack.
|
Re: Classical Song Update!
The problem with MIDIs is they sound like shit unless you're willing to get quality sample libraries and have the skill and time to edit them to sound natural.
And if you are one of those kind of people, usually doing stuff for free on FFR isn't the best use of your talents :P |
Re: Classical Song Update!
By far the most ignored genre is Hip-Hop so your argument falls flat

https://redblank.bandcamp.com/ You can go to this link and pick any track you like in either the "Void" album or "Other Compositions" and email me at mik.training@gmail.com and I'll send you the track for free so you can step it. I even have a video game piano medley in other compositions and a cover of Tristram from Diablo 2 which I got the permission for back in 2012 (was featured by blizzard too) |
