Re: 11th Official Tournament - Round 1

Division 1: 21 / 34 (61.76%)
Division 2: 41 / 52 (78.85%)
Division 3: 44 / 51 (86.27%)
Division 4: 44 / 50 (88%)
Division 5: 62 / 82 (75.61%)
Division 6: 44 / 51 (86.27%)
Division 7: 37 / 41 (90.24%)

Seeing these numbers, it is mindblowing that D1 is the smallest division; it truly depicts that the populace on FFR is rather skilled (majority of active players are between D3-D5) and people who complain about the difficulty of this tournament should be reminded of this fact: people are much better than the previous years, alarmingly fast too.

I think it's less that the average person is better, and more that only people who are good at the game are still actually playing it.

If you look at "newer" easy difficulty songs, they have as few as 2,000 people with scores logged, versus 600,000 for the very old easy songs.

The average FFR player is better every year, because fewer and fewer below average players are staying.

I'd say that the below average players who do stay, just get better. How long does one have to stick around during playing ffr to become above average?

Not very long, because the average player doesn't even get past a few arrows.

Well the average keeps moving up also. but yes, I think it's fair to say that "Getting better" is a motivator to stay. People who either don't really feel they are getting better, or who feel like there aren't enough "Easy" songs for them to play are the ones likely to leave.

Well that and the rhythm game market is a LOT more saturated now than it ever was, and probably a lot of people who might have played/stayed here, who like rhythm games are playing them on their phone etc.

I'd be really curious to see what percentage of the 1.9 million users we have actually logged a score on an FFR song in the last say, six months. I would guess no more than 5000.

I'd give you half that

Without the OT, daily users online varies within 250-400 players, though who knows if they play or just view forums, etc.

I would have to assume that a small fraction of the 1.9 mil is bot accounts, especially where the last few months they have spawned rapidly

Re: 11th Official Tournament - Round 1

I'd say between bots, and permabanned but not deleted accounts, it's more than a small percentage.

There's also a good possibility that the number up in the top right just increments whenever an account is created and isn't coded to also decrement if an account is deleted/removed/permabanned.

"above" average can mean a lot of things, but im going to assume you mean around D3. took me about a year to go from D1 to D2 (technically), then 2 weeks to go from D2 to D3. really depends on how much time and effort you put into it.

And maybe use victory points (scoring based on how many people whose scores you beat in a round) instead of cumulative raw score, a la Dossar's Brutality tournaments.

ayyyyy
now you talkin' my friend who haveth a rhythm

I went from complete beginner to AAAing FMO's in 6 months. I didn't even know how to "train" properly. I just screwed around for like 2 hours a day

Completely off topic but does anyone know if there's a smooth running standalone flash player working on windows 10 yet? I want to upgrade but not if it wrecks my standing in the official.

tbh ive tried every standalone FP from 9-21 and none of them really worked for me on windows 10. simple view seemed to be much more stable than standalone.

I just read up on this but if you wouldn't mind checking this before I upgrade it would be much appreciated. AJ says that using a direct link on chrome for any engine worked great and that he used flash player 21.

requires quite a bit of experimenting :P fp 9 runs like total shit for me on windows 10 even though people say it runs the best for them, idk. I played around with them until i found one that worked well. i get occasional lag spikes (like once every ~100 plays or so) but nothing that really impacts play much.
