Re: 11th Official Tournament - Round 1
was there really a suggestion for an 8th division
brb killing myself |
Re: 11th Official Tournament - Round 1
If you get placed in division 58 and there are 5 other people in it someone is still going to lose in the first round, and the way things look right now there would be complaining about that too.
"Why am I in d58 I haven't played a 58 in like 4 years I should be in 56 because it's way easier for me." No |
Re: 11th Official Tournament - Round 1
the year is 2038. ncaa march madness now has so many rounds of play-in games, they've come to be known as "the regular season"

every year it's the same thing you put all this work into creating cutoffs gathering files and placing people and then a bunch of ungrateful shitwits whine about how they didn't draw the biggest longest straw and how life isn't fair and how if the system was more rigged in their favor maybe they'd win too i've said this every ot since 2008 but the function of a tournament is to produce a winner who given the structure and format of the tournament can be reasonably assumed to be the best among the pool of contestants it's not to hand out a hundred trophies and shoot off fireworks and fanfare in celebration of everyone pressing the signup button the fact that you get something even remotely between the two at an incredible expense to the tournament organizers and then still complain about it is just fucking shameful jesus christ ps. please don't whine about any skillgaps within divisions other than d7, in every other division 8 weeks is enough time for the worst player to close the gap against the best player assuming the best player stagnates in skill |
Re: 11th Official Tournament - Round 1
Also can you folks just stop with the placement talk until after the tournament and just enjoy it? I'm sure that the organizers would be happy to field suggestions/comments/concerns about placements or any other tournament business when it's over and they have time to worry about it again.
Edit: goddammit Mina my thumbs only move so faat |

The bolded part is funny to me because I was just saying over here about an hour ago how I was actually a bit miffed that participant badges were created. Because the whole reason that profile badges came about was me looking for another prize to obtain for the officials since we didn't have anything like T-shirts and stuff to give, (so it was something for the winners back then, not everyone). All we had were the same old tokens and credits to give. Now everyone gets one just for coming in and to me that's kind of meh. |

Probably because the game of placing divisions is a losing one and at the end of the day we really just want to play the game instead of arguing over divisions. People will deal. They seem to have so far. |

If people feel the need to pride themselves in having participated in several officials and/or being in certain divisions during each one, they'll list the ones they participated in. The badges just give them a way to do that. If they placed and earned a top 8 badge or what not, they'll have those. Having a badge does not somehow make what it stands for more important or devalues other badges just because its not that important. It really just makes a list of accomplishments slightly more compact and better on the eyes. |

To my knowledge you can't list only specific ones, I'd personally rather not have the participation badges on mine. Either you show the whole block of badges or none last I knew and I just looked at my profile and saw no way to select specifics. |
Re: 11th Official Tournament - Round 1
hi guys i hit an arrow and submitted a positive score i want a participant badge please
EDIT: lost internet mid-edit, nice! I see nothing wrong with having participants listed somewhere, but having them in the same place as top x badges is a bit strange to me. In a location where achievements are collected and represented by visual indicators, having participant badges makes them inherently less elusive. Certainly nothing wrong with having them from an archival perspective, but that should be sported elsewhere, haha. |

Maybe this is from the perspective of someone who has never seen profile badges as elusive, but it doesn't feel like you're giving out participation badges as an award for participating (and you shouldn't). It instead feels like you're certifying that someone has participated. In the same way you certify that someone was, in fact, the winner of a particular division. |

Re: 11th Official Tournament - Round 1
Here's my hot take on participation badges.
Even if you don't get Top 16 or whatever (my personal best placement is 30th) it's nice to see that you have, in fact, been getting better over the years. It's a testament to all the hurdles you've overcome, all the personal bests you've set. And when you get stuck, just know that with diligence and determination, this too shall pass. Just probably not as fast as you'd like it to. |

1/ I didn't put words in anybody's mouth. Yes, it was PsychoAngel's -opinion- that 'getting participation badges is meh' therefore, to characterize her position as "participation badges are meh" seems 100% in keeping with her stated opinion. I didn't say she was presenting it as a universal fact, I quoted the -sentiment- behind the statement for -comedic effect- 2/ It was a joke, see the end of point 1 3/ Quote:
