Since I noticed a handful of people have been making their own threads for this, I figured I might as well do the same.

Late-2015 edit: Here's a small goal list I've decided to start publicly maintaining here.
I'm not going to strongly adhere to them in a way that may potentially stunt my skill progression, if anything this is mainly to give a rough idea of what my intentions and objectives are.

Entries are crossed out as I AA them. Bolded ones are milestone entries, to varying extents.
Red corresponds to an instance of me failing to AA it - essentially a 91-92% score.
However, in the event that such an instance actually corresponds to an outlier score that really stands out for me, it will be colored in magenta instead.

First off, I discovered FFR sometime in May-June 2011 and I started playing it very casually (as in literally a couple times per month), not to mention it ran at garbage framerates on my old computer thus making it hard for me to tell what's actually going on - probably where my habit of just mashing through things comes from. Sometime in late 2012 I installed OpenITG and grabbed a bunch of pad packs (namely the Disbalance/Tachyon packs). It is only as of last year that I have started to take it seriously by starting to play more than just a couple of times a month: back then I could play 220bpm single-note streams and had pretty much zero experience with keyboard patterns such as jumpstreams which I still don't play very often due to poor technique that I will explain later. In spite of being very much aware of such limitations, I didn't feel like doing much about them since all I cared about was gaining as much single-note stream speed as possible in order to pass Disregard, which I did manage to successfully pull off a month ago. This has led to me coming to the realization that in order to progress further, I will need to do something about them in ways that will very likely involve dramatically-increasing my standards for scores that I consider to be "good".

Anyway here's a bunch of scores I've had so far that best reflect my current ability in my opinion, in spite of them not necessarily being very recent (over a month-old). Note that I have not been playing very much over the course of last month, so I have not really improved by much in the meantime.

Jacking:

I want to play this on rates someday.


Ditto.




Probably close to AA-able on 1.0, since on 1.2x rate the 32nd section equates to 452bpm jumpstream which made me 100% dependent on jump-mashing my way through it.


For those of you unfamiliar with that file, it's pretty much all sustained jumps at 162.25bpm. It's in Zag2 pack.


Speed/Streams:

Could be potentially-decent on a good day.


Was doing so well on the first streams till the rest of it turned into CB-rush oblivion. ;_; I need to work on maintaining consistency more while going fast.


This file is pretty much 25 minutes of 242bpm single-note streams, with a few brief breaks here and there.


Misc:

My inability to switch optimally from jumpjacks to the awkward streams results in a hard plateau. Same thing happens to me on St. Scarhand and its jacks.


Pretty much strains my arms a lot whenever I do actually try hard to sustain combos. :x So not holding my breath for much improvement anytime soon.

To sum it up, I have noticed that my current limitations mainly revolve around my tendency to mainly play from the wrist, thus resulting in my fingers locking up and refusing to move smoothly-enough. This also makes me somewhat very naturally-picky when it comes to patterns since I'm heavily-dependent on them being jump-trillable: even for single-note streams I do this to some extent through offset jumps, which leads to me struggling to pass songs such as Untouched and literally everything in Kaiten's packs. Every once in a while I get days during which my fingers don't lock up as much: they are what I consider to be "good days". Perhaps bad warmup? (Though I did hear from a few people that they don't need "warmup songs" at all, I dunno). My bad accuracy is definitely also a factor, but I figure it will probably be much easier to improve it naturally once I establish a proper playstyle that allows me to sustain combos on hard stuff without completely straining myself.

My current goals are to further-improve upon Red Sign and other songs with weird streams, and finally manage passes on SYSTEM and Earth Quake from HSMP1, as well as Lights and Get Jinxed from Yolo Dumps. Maybe I'll start poking around with Dump Parade stuff too.


Edit: Also, does anyone know how to edit the scoring system in order for it to match that of SM3.95 (with AA = 93% if memory serves correctly)? I know it probably has something to do with my theme's metrics, but I don't know exactly what I should change in them.

As of yesterday I have basically decided to start rebuilding my muscle memory from the ground up. So far it's been working out quite well since I'm beginning to figure out how to limit my wrists to micro-movements while my fingers start hitting patterns more consistently. On top of that jumpjacks feel really good to play with the right technique...

Was fairly-impressive compared to the consistency I used to have. Most CBs were still kinda dumb though, so it's probably AA-able sometime soon.


Ending still kinda throws me off. :x Though, I'm glad I managed to pull it off with very minimal wrist movement (as opposed to how I practically had to force myself to jump-trill/BS my way through everything) so there's that.

I have also started playing FFR again for the sake of AAAing stuff since it appears to have a visible impact on my control whenever I play Stepmania songs within AA-able range. Probably gonna post more single-note stream + JS scores within said range once more progress starts to show.


To clarify what I had requested in the OP, my current theme makes use of the EX ONI scoring system. For the sake of convenience and determining the true value of my future scores, I'd like to know if there's a way to make it calculate scores based on the standard MAX DP system instead. If anyone here would happen to know what I should change in the theme metrics in order to achieve this, thanks in advance.

Finally managed to change my theme metrics properly, so my scores from here on out will follow the standard percentage-scoring system (with AA = 93%). On top of that, I'm also gradually starting to figure out the proper way to play jumpstream patterns. Once the right technique fully incorporates itself into my muscle memory and normal gameplay, I believe it will only be a matter of time until I will be able to begin my push into more interesting JS territory - e.g. WLL, and Nergal Burning which I always fail on the final stretch due to no stamina. Needless to say I will definitely keep pushing for higher scores on such songs, as I have now begun to see why lots of you guys are striving to achieve most of the ridiculous scores I see in the main SM score thread and on certain people's streams.

This essentially felt like a complete fluke run considering I opted for attempting to actually hit the hard parts rather than bullshitting my way through them the way I used to. Messed up on the second one, would've been a pretty solid score for me otherwise.


Thoroughly-impressed by this one, thought I'd get dunked due to not being used to sustaining combos very well above the 180bpm js range.


The stamina-struggle is real. >.> Could be relatively-solid one day but I dunno. ;__;

My muscle memory is still currently in the process of "burning in". I now have enough consistency to pass songs such as Nergal Burning and Cyber Induction, however my stamina still holds me back whenever I try to get good scores on them. On top of that, since my accuracy is garbage I still have a strong aversion when it comes to playing most stuff I already know I can AA, since I practically have to FC/SDCB in order to be guaranteed to do so. I went ahead and decided to include one of said scores nonetheless.


Finally did it. :D My stamina did somewhat die out in the end but at least it makes for a satisfactory score to my standards.


Second time I ever played that song. I guess I did alright.


My jumpstream control is definitely getting there, but I still have a long way to go before achieving true satisfaction.
This should be AA-able sometime in the near-future though: once I reach that point that'll be when I can start going for AA scores without feeling that I'm holding myself back.

Garbage score obviously, it should've been an easily-obtainable AA (95% range), but since it was pretty much at the end of the session this hilarious occurrence happened.

Been skillboosting even more in terms of jumpstream consistency, so here are a few scores.



Second attempt, after having properly re-adapted to a 60hz display. Should attempt 1.1 rate someday?


First attempt on SM, not a sightread though because I played it on osu!mania. Seems pretty decent I suppose.


Kinda solid I guess, I want to play this on much higher rates someday.


Mindblocks are slowly vanishing... someday I will AA this.


Sightread. Once my speed plateau is gone, I should be able to destroy this.


Now I'm attempting to successfully transfer said consistency over to my peak stream speed, but stamina is still a bottleneck for me. Probably won't have as many noteworthy scores for a while unless I somehow manage to pull off a series of very impressive feats.

Dumping a bunch of speed scores here so I can further impress myself sometime eventually. I'm very curious as to how I'd fare in terms of that once I become able to get interesting scores on actually-challenging/fun jumpstream songs (Pacific Girls and WLL oni immediately come to mind), so I'll probably hold out on updating this thread till that happens. Also my left hand is still struggling a bit in terms of posture sometimes due to having spent the past year and a half positioning myself "asymmetrically" during gameplay, but I'm working on fixing that.


Likely FC-able, didn't really feel like grinding that out though. :x


Long-overdue speed goal of mine from 2 years ago, took me a while to remember to reattempt it.


Kinda fast I suppose. :s The beginning of the latter streams still catches me off-balance though.


Happened out of nowhere, was pretty amusing.


I can FC the jacks on 1.1, but I still cannot really understand the middle section which is what cost me the AA.
Perhaps sometime soon then? I dunno.


AA when? Garbage accuracy, but I'm surprised that I can already do this.

Haven't updated this thread in a good while. I'm currently in the process of recovering from an extended four-month break due to unfortunate real-life circumstances that have completely prevented me from playing.

Here's a bunch of scores that I have managed to obtain right before said break. I had no intention to post them at all, but seeing as how they actually hold certain value to me now, I might as well go ahead and do so.






Easily among the top 3 best AA scores that I have obtained so far. Really bursty file, fun patterning.




300 burst streams, SDCB's a nice touch I guess. :s


Most likely going to start referring to this as a baseline JS chart.
PA looks rather awful, but it's a AA that I have been wanting for a while, so whatever.

And now for the new scores. I only really play jack-oriented stuff for now, since my current keyboard has Cherry MX blue switches (as opposed to the reds I had on my previous one) which tends to make me overly-conscious of my CB's/greats whenever I attempt speed or JS stuff, unless it's within near-FC range to me. I will probably get back to that within the next few sessions, so... who knows what's gonna happen from there.


Didn't really think much of this score till I noticed it was (barely) SDCB. Decent-ish I guess.


I can't read that one part of the second half very well... >.> Not to mention it's pretty draining too.


Transitioning to the long jacks is what held me back. :s Gonna have to work on that.


Overstrained a bit on the 1st half which caused me to spaghetti the 2nd, probably would've been on pace for 88%+ if not for that.

I started warming up properly again, and as a result my technique is starting to return to what it used to be back when I could actually crush certain songs a few months ago. However I still feel that I have a very long way to go in spite of that... anyway, score dump time.


Pretty clean run, all 5 cb's were at the same spot. Basically FCing 265 streams kinda makes me want to believe that I haven't reached a complete plateau yet.

Got 4 92% scores back-to-back, which includes another 92.8% score on Psicicite. Needless to say, it's a rather deceivingly-difficult file... not to mention attempting such files several times in a row appears to be a surefire way to develop rather-agonizing mindblocks among other things...



... But I still ended up doing it anyway. Score's still quite terrible though.

For the sake of my sanity, I'm probably better off not touching the other one for a while...



Interestingly-enough, my progress is now mainly limited by mental attrition rather than pure physical exhaustion as of lately. On just about every session I've had so far, I end up quitting out of discouragement upon feeling that past a certain point they end up reaching a relative standstill after only a short period of time playing (sometimes without them even lasting a full hour). I really miss the days when I would confidently spend three hours crushing my hands with difficult stuff and pretty much giving zero fucks until they couldn't handle it anymore: in fact it's how I have developed most of my physical ability, but now that I have reached the point where I am far better off actively refocusing my efforts on actually acquiring better technique... I never thought that it would end up becoming so mentally-draining to me. Then again, perhaps it could only be a temporary thing that I'll get over someday, who knows.

No AA scores this time, but this was my most-satisfying session in quite a long time.

Decided to actually dedicate my next few sessions to identifying what was holding me back in terms of JS, and it turned out to be my poor pattern transition ability rather than lacking raw stamina. Definitely going to address this further now that I am finally starting to get back into it. :3

That combo felt pretty nice, if only it could've lasted a bit longer.


This was right after I had finished depleting my stamina on stuff like Body Breakdown and The Hypocrisy, so I kept on bleeding misses in spite of how I could last all the way without getting tired.


Which also resulted in me choking AA on this. Oh well.

Just had my best session to date, very likely the most significant skillboost I've gotten so far. As such, for the sake of comparison I am posting scores from last week-ish as well as from just now.

Tried physically pushing myself even further, but haven't been able to gain much from it in the process. So gonna fall back a little till I can play consistently without straining myself.

As evidenced by my choke towards the end, I haven't been able to break past 88-89 no matter how hard I tried.


Casually attempted this on stream, didn't turn out too bad from the looks of it.


That solo section makes no sense.

I rarely play stuff on 0.x rates, I guess that was ok-ish though?

After having taken a 1-week break due to physiological exhaustion among other things, I have lowered my scroll speed due to my tendency to overstrain and have most of my non-marvelous hits and cb's occur late for the most part. This has led to me improving rather-significantly as I am now able to produce better scores without straining myself as hard.


Fucked up horrendously on the 24ths, glad to have finally AA'd this though.


Combos weren't as impressive as my previous attempts, but at least I stopped falling apart like I used to.


Felt like I was going to fluke-AA this, but I ended up dropping it somehow... thus ruining what could have been a godlike run in my eyes given how intense it felt all the way. Oh well. :c


Another fluke 92% score, felt quite surprising/funny to get. c:


Seemed on pace for 96-97% given how hard I was crushing the jumptrills, till I fucked up the ending. :s First AA though, so that's nice I guess.


Eze's chart, improvable score due to random/odd cb's.

Don't know why I'm submitting that many scores, but whatever.
Speed/JS are yet again nowhere to be found for now, as evidenced by the fact that most of these are jack scores.


First time actually playing the file, started choking AA on the parts that actually mattered towards the second half.
Which is quite deplorable considering the level I should currently be at.


First A, kinda surprised that I have improved upon this.


Been choking AA on this file for the longest time, I could have gotten it several months ago. Rip.


Was doing okay, till the last 1/4 of the file where I choked hard. Simply awful.


I still kinda lack the control to fully-sustain the middle part properly. Hopefully someday soon though...

Over 7 minutes of ~260 streams, this almost feels within AA range to me.
Given how long it is though, I don't think I'll be reattempting it anytime soon.

Haven't been progressing very much as of the past couple weeks, since I appear to have close to no physical energy left to use compared to my previous major skillboost. Someday I'll stop being bad again... maybe.



Can probably smash this with a 98+, but correcting cb's with these kinda patterns is hard.


Warmup score if I remember correctly, seemed okay considering how awkward certain sections were.


Somewhat decent, but improvable.


Nice cb count I guess, but accuracy could've been better.


Need to improve on control if this is ever going to happen anytime soon.

Lack of reading ability is starting to catch up to me whenever I actually push myself on substnatially-harder stuff, so let's see what I have been able to do in the meantime.



Could have been a bit better in my opinion, but that's still a nice score nonetheless considering I've wanted that for 1.5 years.


Polys weren't as relentless as I thought, should probably give this another try later.

It took me a month to realize that my 96.1% score on M-A was actually on the easier chart instead of this one, oops. >_>
Score itself is nothing to write home about, but certainly not subpar either.

I think it is now apparent that I've started falling behind again, so my sessions have become rather irregular as a result of that. All these scores were from last week, as I have no idea as to when I will be getting back on track.

As such, here's a few songs that do come to mind once/if that does happen. That is without including a handful of songs that I intend to crush later on with 97-98+ scores.

Large score dump, been having a session every morning upon waking up for 5 days in a row. Since the last one was 4 hours long and I went pretty hard, gonna show the results I have been getting for now. c:

Posting them in chronological order because I can't be bothered to sort them beyond that.




Probably AA-able once my key actuation technique becomes optimal again.


First AA, pretty bad PA though since I was mainly doing it for the raw stamina rather than actually fully nailing the patterns.


Can easily guess where I completely fucked up, though amusingly enough it's mostly the trills right after the hard handstream part that threw me off. >_>


Feels so smashable, until I tire out when trying to last all the way.




Pretty good for the meantime, choked the ending so I'll leave it at that until my transitioning ability gets smoother.

bunch of filler-ish scores while I take a couple days off in the meantime

also got a couple other "cutting edge" speed AAs but decided to omit them since they're probably not even good



either I get slammed on the trills, or bleed out a billion greats right before them while trying to save up energy
probably going to leave it as is for now


only took a month to improve upon that previous awful score

unreleased lofty/neon file, seemed like a decent run to me


tired out too much around the second half, might be improvable


actually worse than my 92.9 run seeing as how I didn't hit the streams anywhere near as well as I previously did

Mini score dump as I hopefully transition into a more refined, relaxed playstyle that promotes better control and execution for me overall.

After all, it has been apparent that my main approach to things results in my consistency getting bottlenecked hard even in adrenaline-fueled sessions during which I should be able to set cutting-edge scores... and I also rarely find myself to be in a physical position that allows me to regularly improve upon my jacking stamina - which I would cite as being above-average relative to the rest of my skillset... which I in turn don't particularly consider to be anything worth generally writing home about to begin with.

Whenever such relatively relaxed sessions do happen, I am usually rather pleased with the results... I do feel that I should not get way too ahead of myself in regards to the harder parts of my sessions however.

Bottom line is I am pretty much in a cycle of: realize my control is shit -> cool down with a couple of chill sessions -> turns out I get good ~97 range scores in the 2nd/3rd one -> decide to go ham on like a song or two -> get carried away... and spend the next month or two aggressively grinding shit till I hit the bottleneck again.
Repeatedly hitting the bottleneck is essentially the cause of me not progressing anywhere near as fast as I would hope to. Need to work on overcoming that somehow.


Anyway, here goes...



so it turns out that I AAA'd the entire hard section of the file, only to dump my 6g and 2 misses in the super easy parts of it - fml dude
oh well time to work on MA and/or 1.1 AA now


held 5g at the very end of the hard part, still a good run though I guess


second set of js was bad


would've been like 20g if not for me losing focus on the 32nd anchors halfway into the file, still pretty good though

I'm still playing like platinum garbage until I AA irl oni but here goes, also got a couple of VGMP4 scores in the meantime.

Here's my 1.1 AA run for reference, it's actually really bad and could be seriously improved. 95+ would make for an acceptable run I guess.


more sloppy 280 sustained index/pad streams from yours truly, pretty disappointing as well


Here's a really-draining stamina file I made a couple weeks ago, it's predominantly comprised of 280 JS and 140 handjack sections that last forever, in addition to a section of near-uninterrupted 210 jumptrills that last for almost 20 whole seconds.
This wasn't done on a very good session but I still think AA on 0.9 is kinda neat for now, maybe I'll release it somewhere in the future if I feel that anyone would actually be interested in it.


VGMP4 stuff:

sloppy cb's, definitely improvable but it's actually really fun on 1.3

Looks like the reconditioning ride started to unfold earlier than I thought it would... here's a score dump while I still wait (perhaps indefinitely nonetheless) to get fully unbad at this game for once.

Honestly I don't really care much for yolo4 stuff barring a limited number of exceptions, though I do find a few other charts by Klaius (in other packs such as Nanahira which I only touch once in a blue moon anyway) to be more fun to play than this one. Also I only tend to make videos/highlights of things that I would consider to be actual milestones in regards to my improvement, so yeah.

break turned out to be 40 days long due to unplanned circumstances and me decimating my arms and shoulders on top of falling ill on the way back home

JS stamina reading is still very much in reconstruction, finally managed to start getting my speed back together a little though. On top of that I feel that such circumstances probably stand as a nice opportunity to refine the weaker aspects of my skillset, so here's to hoping I'll make the most out of that in the meantime.

My control's in the process of actually resurfacing somewhat, now it's just a matter of getting it consistent alongside my reading - also trying to push it through all sorts of different types of patterning/transitioning in light of my goal to obtain and successfully hone a relatively multifaceted skillset: ultimately my objective is to be able to seamlessly handle runningmen/anchors and burst jacking among other things about as well if not arguably better than more "vanilla" patterning subcategories such as speed and stamina/js upon breaking through the d7 barrier someday.

After all, it's pretty clear that even at my presumed "peak" my control wasn't all that stellar; as a matter of fact I'm pretty certain that I would have ultimately ended up hitting a wall with it anyway had I continued to play the way I used to. This process could easily take several months but I believe it may very well end up being an endeavor worth devoting myself to in the long run.

Physical momentum has started to resurface a bit today, so here's a bunch of assorted scores that have been produced in the process of attempting to balance out accuracy-oriented gameplay alongside the usual physical control push. Also been doing a bit of JS reconditioning stuff lately but I don't think any of it is really worth posting here except for one - will definitely upload a few sometime later though when things get a bit better on that front.

Pretty promising stuff overall, let's see where this rollercoaster wild ride will take me beyond the end of this year...
