aha oh man

if even one person likes my D5 tiebreaker, I will be shocked -- this file is pretty mean in some spots haha

It's a shitty thing to do, but you can only do so much without over-saturating the game with bullshit. :|

Going to have to disagree somewhat. There's plenty of mid-high to lower difficulty files (there's currently like what, 1700 files?) for the players that aren't high D6 / D7, a couple more difficult files wouldn't hurt at all.

Plot twist: nobody else in D5 AAAs, no tiebreaker needed

no D5 tie breaker, but who WOULDN'T want to see an entire division have to play a tie breaker. At the current state, looks like D2 might need a tie breaker as well. which is perfectly fine with me. Lets not change the state. lets not make me have to out preform an 8g that i cant even get a 10g now :P

It's not a couple.

In the 9th and 10th official tournament, there are (at least) 56 songs -- in the 9th official, 36 out of 56 of the files were FMO difficulty or higher based off of current ratings, and some files were changed in rating (summerghost, for example) to not be included in this list.

When more than half (note: 65%, roughly 2/3 of the tournament files) of the files being put in the game is in the top 1/3 of the difficulty scale (which mind you, covers an extremely large range and is still likely unplayable for any of the casual players who may not have an account here), you're contending with oversaturation. Throwing a ton of super high level files in D7's path in an effort to stop them is futile and really not fair for lower division players who are also trying to contend with the influx of higher level files blasting their level ranks.

D6/D7 players aren't the only players that matter; new content for lower level players is a good thing and saying that there are x files for them to play is a bit unfair considering all of the fresh content the higher level players get. Yes, it's an inherent thing with the structure of the tournament, but that doesn't make it anymore fair for those who are not competing (or are too low to feasibly compete even at the lowest skill bracket).

Maybe you can make a separate engine like the FFRMania engine and place all the D7 songs there and have a vote on a few to put into the actual game?

It is with what we were talking about, whether or not to have tiebreakers for D7. That would add a couple files into the already massive pool of current files if tiebreakers were to happen.

In terms of just the tournament, sure. My point is, it's not really oversaturation when newer players are also getting new content alongside of the files not in the current tournament. It's also not 'a ton of super high level files' it's a couple to be used in case of tiebreakers, and one could also say it's unfair to have D7 not follow the same guidelines as the other divisions and not also give them new content (as little as it would be) as such. Also, nothing is stopping files of the lower 2/3 of the difficulty range from being released outside of the tournament, either before or after, and because of that, 1-3 more files added during the tournament really is no big deal. Could also say that about now and later on in D6, they shouldn't have tiebreakers either, because those files would also be high difficulty.

Not sure why this is brought up, lower level players are also getting new content and I never said they weren't or that we shouldn't give them new content.

My sentiments exactly. I don't feel safe with my 8-0-0-3, yet, every single chance I've played, I haven't been able to knock in anything better.

From D5 to D7, then Top 8 D7. Impressive feat, no?
