Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

OPKiller:

I understand that it seems a bit unorthodox for someone like me to prove just how good I "can" be by playing in the FFR Official Tournament casually. Trust me I know how that sounds and looks. However, for me, this is my 7th Official Tournament that I'm entered in. The last 6 I've tried my very hardest to make it as far as I can go, and (I believe) the furthest I've ever made it was the 4th round in D6. I've spent just about 11 years on this website meeting people, and playing the game religiously. I've done everything from starting a team (FKO) with MetalAtlas, to hosting very successful tournaments, to playing in Officials, stepping, getting involved in the community (hence 5k posts), etc. I've spent so much time in my personal life here, that being competitive for 11 years is just draining man.

I've experienced everything good to bad on this site. I've been trolled, my kids made fun of, my wife made fun of, to being praised for good things as well. One thing I've realized is that no matter how much time I put in here, nothing means anything if I'm not having fun, at the very least. Everyone knew me as the *** (Asterisk Poster) because I always posted raged induced comments on the forums. But, recently, ever since I've returned to FFR, I came back with a new mindset in just being casual, and try to the very best of my ability, to have fun. That's what I'm doing.

So in regards to the Official, I'm trying something new. I'm not whoring the hell out of my songs and getting frustrated beyond belief because it's never really helped me in the past, as shown. But, now, I'm already halfway to where my absolute best is, and I'm having fun doing it. If I can get passed Round 4, or even up to Round 4 with this mindset, I will have accomplished everything, in my view.

You may not understand, and you may not want to understand, but I am somewhat still being competitive in the fashion that I even entered the Tournament. I'm just playing with a different mindset that is somewhat unorthodox as mentioned previously.

Hope this post clears your question up for you OPkiller.

td;lr - I am being competitive, but not in the sense that it's all I'm thinking about. I'm having a blast with this tournament. Truly am, and that is all I care about.

Look krunky, I do encourage you to play and have fun. Though, even if it's maybe not what you really meant, your previous posts on this page and the last one do not reflect your very last post, is all I want to point out to you. ("So, I'm currently at 26th place. If I make it, cool, if not, it's whatever. 4 years in a row I've had one chart like Capoeira, that just royally destroys any chance I have. Might be my last official, kinda upset with myself over this crap.")

EDIT: btw yes I know you clarified that but my previous post was also directed to Minhtam oki

Woah I just read the thread.

KRUNKY MAN
MAN
you got this

Also just realized how untimely my post was rofl

If you're still up for trying the song, I'd recommend being able to hear your keytaps while you're playing. That helped me a lot with the trills. Literally go to the beat of the song. Don't worry about dropping goods: you'll naturally avoid that.

Pretty sure Xonica won D1 last year without any AAAs

I figured I would add in my two cents and say that the effort you've put into that has really shown. You seem to be much calmer than you were in the past. :)

Also you'll jump up 5 spots even if you only shave off 2 goods.
Another thing that may help is to just take a break from the file. Try not to worry about the official at all this weekend and try it again on Monday or something. The great thing about the official tournaments is that the rounds are long enough that you can clear your head if the song begins to frustrate you and/or you start developing bad habits.

It pretty much comes down to what FG said: you have a solid score already and you can def improve it.
Though don't feel bad if you can't improve. You'll know you put up an honest effort and that's all anyone can ever ask.

I know exactly what krunky means too, thats the sad part. I cannot for the life of me figure out these trills no matter how much i try them. I'm bad at trills, period. No matter how much i practice them i just dont get the concept of broken trills. I can aaa the rest of the file semi-consistently but im honestly about to give up as well as i dont see mysrelf improving. Imo, i did give it my best as being shitty at trills i still managed 3-1-1-1 which is FAR better than i expected to get. I'm not completely done, but pretty close.

You know, this really made my day, Tosh Thank you. I'm glad my efforts and different mindset have shown. Definitely in comparison to who I was before :)

Also, that's what I'm doing (in reference to taking a break from the file). It's insane that I've AAA'd the entire first half of the song so many times it's like a breeze for me, it's just that last half that really gets to me lol

As well, below are screenshots of the parts that give me my goods. It's ridiculous but it seems as if random goods are fluent throughout these parts it makes me wanna cry :( Like legit get upset lol I could be really "feeling" the chart, and then hit one of these parts, get a good, cringe ... facepalm:

These parts are death .... and I don't know why :(

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

This spot is actually something that would block me pretty bad :/
Patterns like that on the left hand are probably my biggest weakness

The rest look like patterns you try to jump and split goods on them or something

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys

don't think of a trill as a trill
hear a beat
hit a key
think of it like that
you'll survive

also @krunky idk mirror have you tried that you probably have
oh yeah break is good break is good

krunkykai22 10-10-2014 08:12 PM

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

I have tried mirror, but doing the trills 1 3 with my left hand sucks royally :(

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

Just pretend they're multiple small patterns instead of one, don't look too much into it.

Also:

As for the trills, hit the 32nd notes really fast and emphasis them, then act as if the other notes after are another pattern. Thinking of it as a slowdown is just not consistent enough.

Gradiant 10-10-2014 09:04 PM

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

Had an easier time with the trills once i stopped hitting them as slowng down, and trying to hit them as gallops. Trill starts normally and when you see the gaps between start to increase, switch to a sort of gallop. My last couple improvements have only had goods outside the trills because i isolated the file at 500 to get used to hitting it like that.

File also fast enough that what sorie said about jumps instead of graces works perfectly

SK8R43 10-10-2014 09:11 PM

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

I can only play the song on mirror or i literally get 20+ goods on the trills. but gonna read and look at what you guys wrote and hopefully i can get over the trills and aaa haha

Edit: LOL yeah some of those spots are tricky as hell, Krunky. the second roll burst near the end kill my run 50% of the time and i get X-1-1-1 on it haha.

Edit 2: Thanks Sorie, i might try that monday when i try it again, hitting the 32nds really hard then thinking of the rest of the trill as something else. but the transition from the up down to right left trill is a killer for me :/ But yeah i hit the graces as jumps, works 99% of the time for me.

At the end of the day, just try your best. I know what pressure can be like in competitions like these, and the worst decision you can make is to give up.

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

Yay, i improved by a stinking boo, 7-0-0-1 beats my 3-1-1-1 :P Baller. hehe
Good at the very very end on the last trill, though, sigh

Re: 10th Official FFR Tournament

I had a 5-0-0-1 run and got 4 goods in the last like, 10 notes lmfao..I'm mindblocked in so many spots now..

but it's so much more satisfying to hit them as not jumps
