Everyone says this, but who has actually done a poll to determine that's what "the community" thinks?
I've seen plenty of people who agree that putting hard files in the game is fine, and comparatively fewer more outspoken people who complain about it cluttering levelranks, alienating new users, or other arguments of that nature. There's definitely great arguments to be made on both sides, but for some reason the prevailing wisdom is that basically everyone doesn't like hard files being added, and I question that.

I should ask that on a front page survey, perhaps after the conclusion of the tournament to get feedback on how big events like this are handled.
It would be good to have empirical evidence of exactly what the community views as too many hard files.

Personally I don't care. Being a lower skill player, I mainly just stick to my comfort zone and ignore most of the stuff 75+ unless I'm messing around in MP. Also once again, being lower skill I don't put much of an emphasis on my levelranks..as I just don't really have reason to yet. I really don't think new players will care about either of these topics either.

That being said, I do feel that stepartist basically cater to the D5-7 crowd 90% of the time. It's rare to see easier files added into the game unless its during an official. But on the other hand, the higher skill players are the ones most active around here imo, so it makes sense to generate new material for them.

Idk..it's a topic that goes either way depending on where you are skillwise.

EDIT: D7 R6 should have 64th walls at 400bpm and 16th jacks at 400bpm and [13][12] patterns lol

There's also still the issue of all the FMO's and up being way too hard for most casual players to enjoy. I know back when I was first starting out I hated playing anything that was too far above my skill level because all I could do was mash. I doubt I'm the only player that's ever felt that way at some point. Obviously it's fine to add hard songs to the game, just as long as you can balance it out with easy songs to appeal to newer/less skilled players.

Raw scoring would be great for showing true skill on the scoreboards but that only solves half of the "too many hard songs" problem.

When I was a D3-D4 nubcake long ago, I would always get home from school, get on FFR, and play the lower songs from dance 2. I went on and did that for half a year. Maybe even longer, considering the songs I have posted on my channel are mostly easy ones. My point being, I never even thought about going to the harder songs, or improving. I was a casual player who never joined tournaments and only played stuff I liked. I got by just fine with the few songs I played. I also played those few songs every day.

Edit: I don't see why the people who play casually don't just leave the hard songs alone and think of the easy songs as the only ones available.
