Request for Staiain

(was going to PM this but it occurred to me your response might be useful for others)

Could you make a tutorial on how to record split-screen videos like you did recently, where one frame displays the keys being tapped, another frame displays your fingers and another displays your SM screen?

Re: Request for Staiain

Step 1 : Get XSplit
Step 2 : Get all your video input
Step 3 : Record video ~

Re: Request for Staiain

I use Open Broadaster Software, then have an app called NohBoard to visually display my keyboard. I use game capture for NohBoard so I can have it behind my sm window, I use one camera for my monitor, one for my fingers (using camera instead of game capture makes it soooooooo much smoother. Game captured sm looks like ffr at 30 fps, but with camera recording the monitor it looks super smooth at 30, so that's why i use camera instead of game capture

Re: Request for Staiain

If you put game capture but stream/record at 60 fps, it won't cap SM at 30 fps, in case you didn't know. But your method works fine and your videos are great quality anyways ~

Re: Request for Staiain

It doesn't cap the framerate of sm but 60 fps will be downscaled to 30 if i decide to cut out a song of the stream and put on youtube, and then it will be super choppy, so I'm sticking with 30 fps stream with camera capture, so if I put it on youtube the quality doesn't get comprimized

Re: Request for Staiain

Why would youtube downscale the fps to 30 if the source is game/screen capture vs webcam capture? I thought the issue was when you played, not when you uploaded haha

Re: Request for Staiain

the camera angled to my monitor does 30 fps only, also my hand camera can do 187 fps haha, I could make a slow mo video of my hands while comboing 400 bpm stream or something :D

edit: this should be moved to Stepmania

i don't see any convincing reason to use XSplit, to be honest. you can't capture game output unless you pay for it and it uses much more resources than OBS from what i have seen.

Just more used to XSplit, and didn't know if OBS had a recording option. Not really a fan of the OBS interface, can't ever figure out how to do really simple things. And you don't need game capture to capture SM or any game, screen regions work fine.

Holy mother of god, DO IT.

(vertex beta 2.0)

Re: Request for Staiain

It took me a while to figure it out but it runs soooooo much smoother and there's all options i need, including ones i found by surprise

Also Vertex Beta 2.0 isn't possible to combo well due to the patterns, I could probably find some other stream which has better patterns and combo it, even 450+ is doable with good patterns, I'll see later today or weekend to see if I play and can have it a go

sure, they work, but they aren't ideal. game captures are more efficient than screen regions afaik since it just uses data directly from opengl/directx rather than adding an extra level of indirection.

in either case, not sure what you are talking about when you say OBS's interface is hard to use. i have had no issues streaming with it, it wasn't difficult to set up, and i have streamed at 1920x1080 with it.
