Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Hey guys, I had wanted to do an MP tourney while I was still staff and never got around to it. Well, I'm gonna do it now ^_^ Now I know that a lot of people experience lag issues with MP so this may not be perfect, but it should still be a lot of fun!
Legacy MP Tournament This tournament is going to be six divisions, and played with raw score. With the multiplayer system supporting two players, this tournament will be played as a double elimination tournament. What does this mean for you? For those of you that aren't familiar with double elimination style tournaments, it's a very widely used format for gaming tournaments, giving the chance for stronger players that may have had a big mishap to fight their way back to the position that they rightfully deserve. How will it work in this tournament? The best way to explain is to provide an example, and what better way than to use an actual bracket. In a double elimination tournament, everyone starts in top half of the bracket (or the winner's bracket). A loss in the winner's bracket drops you to the bottom bracket (or the loser's bracket), and a second loss in the tournament gets you eliminated. This is an all-inclusive rule, including the final round (which is a bit confusing, but I'll explain that a bit later). Let's go to the example. (Please note: this is just a randomized group to illustrate how the bracket will work and is in no way a foreshadowing of divisional placements/tournament results.) In this example below, we have two matches - Kayla (psychoangel691)/myself (TC_Halogen) and FrozenAngel91/Luis (samurai7694). The winners of the match have an orange number next to them, showing how many points (or matches) they had to win to get there. The winners will progress to the second round of the top bracket... ![]() ...and the losers of the round fall down into the bottom bracket. In this example, I took two out of three wins in the match: ![]() ...and I move on to the next round in the loser's bracket. Remember: once you lose a match, you fall into the loser's bracket and are competing in the tournament from there. Once you lose in the loser's bracket, you are eliminated. It is also possible to win the entire tournament in the loser's bracket, given a very specific set of circumstances. Using the example below, Luis traveled to the final round through the bottom bracket, and I traveled to the final round normally, through the top bracket. The person entering the final round in the loser's bracket has to win TWO matches, to win the entire tournament. You may be asking "why?" or "how is this fair?" Remembering the rules of a double elimination tournament makes this very logical. ![]() Being that I was in the winner's bracket, and lost the match, I then fall to the loser's bracket, and the final round recommences to determine the winner of the tournament. I hope this explains any and all questions about how the tournament structure and how it will work. (If one of your question asks how the score can possibly be 3 to 0: it can't - it was just me putting in values to move the bracket along more quickly.) Big thanks to AJ for making this example and explaining all this ^_^ Signups/Start Date I'm going to have signups open for two weeks. I'd do this next weekend but being that it's a holiday I figure people may be away. So the start date will be Saturday June 2nd at 1pm server time. This should only be a one day event, but if for any reason it starts to get too late we'll carry it over into Sunday. Just leave a post in the thread that you want to be in just like any other tourney. This will give me time to match people up nicely. Rules 1. NO CHEATING. Do not sign up with an alternate account and hope that you will get away with it. If we have a reason to believe that you are not using your main account, we will ask you. Be honest with us. 2. Be respectful to all other competitors in the tournament. Arguments will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the tournament. 3. If you are spectating a room do not use the chat while the competitors are playing. This tends to cause more lag and you wouldn't want someone to do it to you, right? Prizes/Donations Top 3 in each division will get a credit prize. I may pay more places if we get a significant amount of signups. I may even do a participation credit amount depending on how many people there are and donations. I'll be kicking off the pot with 500k. As always donations are greatly appreciated. Yea I'm not a legacy player either, but since the two aren't linked right now and legacy seems to be the most played for MP currently. I decided to go with legacy. All in good fun though ^_^ |

You guys listened to me ^^ Things to add to OP: Optimization of Legacy MP If on windows 7 or vista turn off windows aero by using windows basic theme (Add instructions if you'd like) Use Flash Standalone 8 or 9. Suggested to use low quality in game for maximum performance. Gamebooster can also be an extra boost. Edit Edit: Without all or most of the steps there Legacy is impossible to play well... gamebooster is optional. |
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!

Yea I'll have put up instructions, and I recommend everyone that signs up gets in MP and sees what may help them optimize play. I know how nasty the lag can get in there. |
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Those 4 instructions kill lag entirely. ;)

Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
I have a question before i fully commit, this 1pm saturday start time: this is a live start time correct? meaning i need to be online at that time? reason I ask is that will be 3am my time for me. Can you clarify what a sort of schedule for the day would look like?
i so want to be a part of this though! |

Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
holy cocks, I'm going to have to practice on MP a lot more if I have any sort of chance doing well in this tournament in my division, jesus.
Not SDGing certain 10s = bad for D6... -_-; |
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Just a mere suggestion: Instead of having the tournament start at a specific time, how about matching contestants up with others and give them a couple of days to submit a screenshot with their scores.
I would be in but generally, I don't think I'll be playing much FFR in a while. |

Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Alright guys, Kayla and I have been chatting it up on the structure of the tournament, and we have come up with a consensus on how things are going to work. I'll write up a quick post delving into the details of how this will be played.

Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
If there's anyone that would like to volunteer to help monitor the rooms for this tourney send me a PM or message me on AIM or Skype. I could def use the help.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Im a regular legacy player, and i love MP! Definatly in.
Ill volunteer to help moniter the rooms too :) Edit: Wait, would that interfere with me participating? x.x |

I'm SO in. This sounds fun as hell.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Kk Op is updated with AJ's pretty explanation ^_^
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
In, sounds like a lot of fun :P
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Will we be able to use the standalone mp legacy engine for this? Just looking at options for less lag, that's all. Never played the standalone mp legacy engine in multiplayer.

|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
I'm in this one.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
I'm thinking about starting with preliminary placements today, that way if anyone has any concerns they can talk to me about it.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Sure, I'm in.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Alrighty, put up some preliminary placements, these were very quick placements and very much likely to change as I dig more into recent scores and such. Also there will be a lot of people moved around if we don't get any D1 signups.
As always any issues concerns just send me a PM or message me on AIM or Skype ^_^ |
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
D3 so small :(
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
For now
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
In for usual placement.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
I'm in, want to get back in MP, remember having some good times there.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
May as well give it a try ._.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
I'm in. :)
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
in, hi_top's my main
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Yay more people \o/
And hi_top another name change? XD <3 ps we should get some Pony vs Blaze action goin on up in dis tourney ^_^ |
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
i'm so up for that!
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Are you going to be able to play considering the time? :/
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
I'm screwed unless the almighty lag god shines upon me and lags all of my opponents. Either that, or magicturbo is in my division. If that happened, I would give up.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Before I completely quit, I think I'm going to join this just because I wouldn't mind MP being active again.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Aaagghh just reread the main post, can't do a tournament on June 2 because I won't have any computer access, so I'll have to drop this one.
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
I see that I'm not placed yet. Is everything ok?
|
Re: Legacy FFR MP tourney!
Hey can I join? I've never been in a multiplayer tournament, so my MP level is still a measly 10 :P
