That kinda defeats the purpose of an MP tourney though. I mean it's meant to be a live action kinda thing.

Ah I see. I was just suggesting. It would probably be more exciting watching everyone play live anyways :P

Yea haha, even if MP doesn't run the best I think this should be a lot of fun.

Alright guys, Kayla and I have been chatting it up on the structure of the tournament, and we have come up with a consensus on how things are going to work. I'll write up a quick post delving into the details of how this will be played.

If there's anyone that would like to volunteer to help monitor the rooms for this tourney send me a PM or message me on AIM or Skype. I could def use the help.

Nah what I'll have to do it just have someone stand in when it's your turn to compete. I'll probably try to have all the people who volunteer compete at different times so they can stand in for one another.

in, but only because other ponies are going in. I have culminating activities coming up, (Not to be rude or anything,) so might as well get hyped for the upcoming summer tournament.

Legacy MP Tournament
As mentioned in the opening post of the thread, this tournament is going to be six divisions, and played with raw score. With the multiplayer system supporting two players, this tournament will be played as a double elimination tournament. What does this mean for you?

For those of you that aren't familiar with double elimination style tournaments, it's a very widely used format for gaming tournaments, giving the chance for stronger players that may have had a big mishap to fight their way back to the position that they rightfully deserve. How will it work in this tournament? The best way to explain is to provide an example, and what better way than to use an actual bracket.

In a double elimination tournament, everyone starts in top half of the bracket (or the winner's bracket). A loss in the winner's bracket drops you to the bottom bracket (or the loser's bracket), and a second loss in the tournament gets you eliminated. This is an all-inclusive rule, including the final round (which is a bit confusing, but I'll explain that a bit later). Let's go to the example.

(Please note: this is just a randomized group to illustrate how the bracket will work and is in no way a foreshadowing of divisional placements/tournament results.)

In this example below, we have two matches - Kayla (psychoangel691)/myself (TC_Halogen) and FrozenAngel91/Luis (samurai7694). The winners of the match have an orange number next to them, showing how many points (or matches) they had to win to get there. The winners will progress to the second round of the top bracket...

...and the losers of the round fall down into the bottom bracket. In this example, I took two out of three wins in the match:

...and I move on to the next round in the loser's bracket. Remember: once you lose a match, you fall into the loser's bracket and are competing in the tournament from there. Once you lose in the loser's bracket, you are eliminated.

It is also possible to win the entire tournament in the loser's bracket, given a very specific set of circumstances. Using the example below, Luis traveled to the final round through the bottom bracket, and I traveled to the final round normally, through the top bracket. The person entering the final round in the loser's bracket has to win TWO matches, to win the entire tournament. You may be asking "why?" or "how is this fair?" Remembering the rules of a double elimination tournament makes this very logical.

Being that I was in the winner's bracket, and lost the match, I then fall to the loser's bracket, and the final round recommences to determine the winner of the tournament.

I hope this explains any and all questions about how the tournament structure and how it will work. (If one of your question asks how the score can possibly be 3 to 0: it can't - it was just me putting in values to move the bracket along more quickly.)

Will we be able to use the standalone mp legacy engine for this? Just looking at options for less lag, that's all. Never played the standalone mp legacy engine in multiplayer.

Yea I use the standalone for it myself. I can't run mp in browser. Best thing I can say is for everyone to play in mp over the next two weeks and try all the little things you can do to reduce lag so you're ready come the day of the tourney.
