Why are so many threads being locked?

There are a lot of threads where I see no flamming/trolling or anything of the sort going on but they are being locked like crazy. Like the FFR is Alive?? thread. I know Carlos made a crack about the site being up for 4 months but other than that people were saying hi to the person as far as I noticed. I mean we have no chat available to us for use yet so the only thing we can do is chat in threads. It was just something I was curious about because I've seen it happen a lot. Like my what have you been up to thread? that got locked too and I'm not sure why.

Re: Why are so many threads being locked?

I absolutely agree. I'd like to know why this thread got locked when there was absolutely no questionable content within it, yet this thread got left open WHILE the first thread was open (and people even linked to the previous thread, not to mention the OP requested it to be locked).

I understand that you guys are trying to avoid the clutter from people creating the same threads again, but at least have some sort of staff member post in the thread giving the reason why it got locked. It's a bit frustrating to see a thread that you were rather enjoying and/or contributing to get closed without a single reason or post as to what's going on.

Re: Why are so many threads being locked?

Well people have been posting about bugs everywhere and it looks like the ADMINs/MODs are trying to keep on top of both to get the site up and running again.
I imagine it's not a fun job at the moment. @_@

Re: Why are so many threads being locked?

Some of the threads in question are not bug reports though - they are actual topic of conversation. Because of no chats being up at the moment, the only communication that FFR members have between one another isn't instant communication.

Well, I second both points.

Because they are repeats and/or useless.

Sorry. It has been pointed out that I don't listen to other people enough. Unlocked so you can respond.

We're going to lock threads that have no merit, we're going to lock threads that are repeats. There is a sticky about expressing one's surprise over the return of the site.

Have a good day.

Re: Why are so many threads being locked?

Just for the record, we didn't want anything extravagant, it was merely a question that, once answered - just like any other thread where a solution is being requested, then it would alright to close. Not a sarcastic answer or anything, just a truthful one.

You're an active moderator, which is better than none at all.

Absolutely agreed with stretchy. There is no reason to have to use multiple threads to chat about the same topic. That is the point of this thread.

Re: Why are so many threads being locked?

Sorry that I posted rather than PMed. I just didn't understand why it was happening and didn't know who to talk to directly so I did it as a generalized question to all staff to see what they had to say about it. Plus I figured anyone else that was wondering the same thing would be able to see the answer to it. But I mean there was a thread that was locked where someone had asked a question and they never got an answer before it was locked nor were they directed to a thread where they could find the answer. Repeat threads do get annoying I understand that but at the same time sometimes it's hard to find things in these forums once people start posting like crazy. A lot of times I can't find anything to a question I have in the forums because there is so much posted on any given day. Luckly for me I have people I can usually IM for the answers but some people here are new users that don't know the forums or anyone here well at all.

tl;dr: the forums are confusing to new users that may be looking for an answer to something that has already been asked and threads are being locked before they are answered or directed to the proper thread.

some threads like the one i started the other day should be locked because people cant take them for their purpose too, i started one as a place for people who couldnt get to their main account for whatever reason to let us know what their new name was because people like me cant keep track of that many new names at once, but people were smart asses and it got locked befoer i could request it be locked

Oh I understand locks like those. Where it's just completely off topic or trolling whatever. But there were ones that stuff like that wasn't going on in which was why I was like whoa cause they were being locked so fast and people weren't being directed to the threads that may pertain to what they had made their thread for.

People really have to learn to read the other 1 million threads that have to do with their questions/issues....

Because that's why way things have always been here and since things never change here we are.

Re: Why are so many threads being locked?

There are many staff, including myself, that have spent time on OTHER sites for the past year, posting, and sometimes even moderating other forums. Now that we are all back on FFR, it will take a while for us to all re-calibrate to what are considered "FFR Standards". Some of us are used to stricter forums, some of us are used to more lenient forums. Things will be back to a well-oiled machine soon enough. Please bear with us getting many different personalities back to the same policies.
