That's too bad, but it's a reasonable decision and I should respect it. Will FFR be shut down then? :/

Re: The story from Tass

well assuming synth still makes money off this site, probably not.

if the site's not being taken care of, it'll die off with the lack of updates and interest in the community. then his profits will vanish with no trafic and no ad revenue for ffr. also subscribers won't be interested in renewing their subs anymore. another loss of profit.

the game/site itself is no longer being taken care of like it used to, which led the community to make their own projects (keybeatonline) to salvage what's left of the gaming community.

Ohh okay. So it'll just wither away then? Not good but it's better than the sudden vanishing of a site.

Wow…so if FFR dies down or is sold, what happens to Rithum? Hard to believe you make one of the biggest social network gaming sites and you just abandon it.

Re: The story from Tass

1,708,313 members and growing!

apparently this means nothing to synth

If anyone is wondering why I haven't been updating Rithum at all, tass pretty much summed it all up. I'd be more than happy to work on the site for free, but Synth screwed up by ignoring everyone for so long.
I don't see the reason is working on a site knowing that the guy who owns it is basically MIA.

Re: The story from Tass

I recall all those live webcam chats the community had with Synth -- he seems like a genuinely cool guy who works hard, but I do agree that his financial management and staff interaction style needs improvement(/to exist).

I can also speak here from experience with respect to being ignored -- there was a small window of time in the past when I helped Synth code a converter for a 5-key game using the pre-existing code (which did take some work because the pre-existing code was not the greatest). Synth was well aware of my financial/technical/academic background and education; we were in talks for a while for a position on the site, but after a while he just stopped talking to me and never returned any of my attempts to contact him, which is hugely silly, as I've helped even very-successful firms in the past generate a LOT of value.

Aside from my own personal gripes, I have to also wonder why Tass wasn't leveraged as much as he could have been. The guy's obviously very good at marketing and taking initiative, considering that he's been able to aggressively make contacts with various Flash developers/communities for his walkthrough business and even include FFR in those talks over at San Fran, which is huge (those conferences act as the pulse of the Flash communities... it doesn't really get much more direct). Also it blows my mind that Synth didn't push forward with Konami.

I'm sure Synth has his own side to the story -- my guess is that he was more focused on prioritizing his personal finances/family (such as his diabetic son) as opposed to dumping efforts into the site. From an economic standpoint though, it is financially irrational to not consider business deals that are clearly positive-NPV. If he didn't have the time/energy to handle them, then that's when you hire more people or optimize task allocation among pre-existing staff members. Either way, communication is key, and that was clearly not present here.

It's not like it's impossible to get FFR rolling again, either. But, again, the ball's in Synth's court, so hopefully he notices Tass' post and gives his side of the story.

This post is dedicated to Third Style. RIP, lol.

****ing OUCH! Lucky five bastards who actually got one of the six Rithum shirts ever created.

edit: When will FFR/Rithum close? I'm sure the domain will die EVENTUALLY.

That's why I said "kinda makes sense", because every coin has two sides, no one can blame no one until both parts are clear.

On topic though, I'm not sure how long I'll be around FFR specifically, considering that I am not playing anymore. If FFR gets up and running, though, I'd still be happy to lend my services. Otherwise, I'll probably end up taking my leave.

Tass requested the story not be C+P'd into the thread, but I'm at work at the moment and would like very much to read it. If someone could copy the story into a private message and send it to me, it would be greatly appreciated.
