DTV Transition Delayed for Another 4 Months
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=6736599
Apparently the DTV Transition is being pushed back because a bunch of people who need the converter box are unable to get the government coupon, which gives them $40 off a converter box. Almost 3 million people have requested coupons, but most people have not gotten theirs, and considering that it takes 6-8 weeks for a coupon to arrive, the switch to DTV would have already occured, and these people would be left without a TV signal. Of course, you could just go out and buy a converter box anyways, but most people are looking to save money wherever possible, and if the switch happened on February 17, the original transition date, many people would have been left without signals, considering that the government can only produce so many coupons. I, personally, am not affected by the DTV transition, as I have DirecTV, like 70% of America (not DirecTV, but cable or satellite). Is anyone affected by this, or has bought a converter box? |
Re: DTV Transition Delayed for Another 4 Months
I still say this whole thing is a stupid idea.

Re: DTV Transition Delayed for Another 4 Months
It's a good idea, mainly for the fact that it clears up airwaves for emergency personnel. On 9/11 they had trouble communicating because the radio/TV stations took up so much of the FCC's allowed range of frequencies. It's too bad that it will be such a hassle to force everyone to get with the times in simple technology.

The DTV transition is the government's way of saying we need a new TV.

Anyway, this is ****ing stupid to push it back. The idiots who aren't ready for it by now won't be ready for it until the switch is forced on them. Just push the shift through and those dumb assholes can buy themselves a new TV or a digital converter box when they go to watch their favorite network shows and find only a title card saying "lol u ned dTV now, bro gtfo". That and it's ****ing bull**** that people think government should give them free **** so they can watch TV. When VCRs became obsoleted, did the government buy us all DVD players? **** no. TV is not a requirement for life either. Why do people want the government to do **** for them so bad? Quote:

Re: DTV Transition Delayed for Another 4 Months
Seriously though, who still uses a TV with antennas. lmfao

Re: DTV Transition Delayed for Another 4 Months
I am affected by the transition. I tried getting a coupon, but they were GONE so fasst. My antenna is a Coaxial cable, hooked to a key ring, which is woven with copper and taped to my ceiling to pick up good reception from the plumbing works
I'm serious too. I watch broadcast tv, lol. |

Hell, you can use a black and white television from the prehistoric age as long as it has a coax port in the back you can hook a cable line into. |
Re: DTV Transition Delayed for Another 4 Months
yeah it's not like OTA TV is a governmental thing anyway
It would make sense for the government to supply the people with a means if it was. But it's not. They're PRIVATELY OWNED STATIONS. FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK |
Re: DTV Transition Delayed for Another 4 Months
