Obama's Inauguration

Just curious how many of you guys are going?

I'm not sure if cameras will be allowed (likely not). I'm going with a group from school, and we're also going to check out the parade.

How could they disallow cameras with everyone and their mother having a phone that takes stills and video?

Err, what would be the point?

I won't, however, be going. Neither will my lazy family that all lives in the DC area. The bums.

Re: Obama's Inauguration

I was referring mainly to actual cameras, as opposed to phone-cameras. Idk, people are all "No flash photos!" and that sort of thing, so I don't know if they're just going to nix cameras to keep with the tight security or whatever.

But eh, I'll bring one if they're allowed, def.

Guns dressed up as cameras. The recoil gives you a black eye.

I wish I could go, but I'm in Florida, and I lack the money or time to even go up there right now.

I'd love to but that's a bit far for a day trip. Plus I can watch it on TV :)

You guys really think he'll get shot?

Tater Tot 01-8-2009 02:13 PM

Re: Obama's Inauguration

Unfortunately rzr, there is a possibility of it happening, even though nobody really wants it to happen. And by nobody I'm excluding the crazies and White supremacists.

it is harder to kill the president of the united states than some people seem to think

Is it a murder or an assassination?

One thing to think about though: if Obama is supposedly protected by Secret Service, how is it that people were able to get such close camera shots of him (I watch TMZ, sry )? Everything has counter-arguments too.

Only time will tell what happens.

Seriously people.

Stop talking like he's going to be killed.

Goddamn.

Re: Obama's Inauguration

i don't know i mean it's probably safe to assume there were thousands of terrorists that wanted to kill george bush during his presidency yet he seems pretty not dead to me. and generally (and stereotypically) speaking i'd say a well-connected terrorist probably has better means to assassinate someone than some random supremacist

Re: Obama's Inauguration

well this hasn't really been an issue before that i know of where this many people wanted the president dead. i'm republican too and i'm not thrilled that he won but at least give the man a chance and see what he can do. people are crazy these days. :(

rzr 01-8-2009 03:16 PM

Re: Obama's Inauguration

Oh yeah, Squeek, it's completely out of the realm of possibility. Let's just pretend it can't happen so if it does the entire country can be dumb struck.

Re: Obama's Inauguration

I actually agree with rzr =.=
It's happened before, it can happen again. There's more reasonings behind why someone would want to assassinate Obama than there was with the other presidents that were killed.
Not to say the reasons are right, but people do have their dislikes.
There's some crazy ones out there ya no.

Squeek 01-8-2009 03:39 PM

Re: Obama's Inauguration

Let me explain.

First of all, it's meaningless to talk about. Sure, it could happen, because anything could happen anywhere for any reason.

Let me begin by saying that there has never been a presidential assassination at their inauguration. Just a fun factoid.

Oh, and for more fun factoids:

Quote:

The security for the inaugural celebrations is a complex matter, involving not only the Secret Service, but other Federal law enforcement agencies, Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Office of Federal Protective Service (ICE-FPS), all five branches of the Armed Forces, the Capitol Police, and the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPDC). Federal law enforcement agencies also sometimes request assistance from various other state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.
I'm not saying it can't happen and I'm not suggesting that it's outside the realm of possibility. I'm saying we shouldn't talk about it because it's a horrible thing to discuss. It's like discussing NFL quarterbacks and wondering which one is going to have a season-ending injury next. You COULD talk about it, but why not discuss more important things instead? You could talk about his Cabinet or the regime change or the final days of Bush or dozens of other things. I don't know why the topic of assassination ALWAYS comes up.

You people are just so negative.

us southern crazies always want to **** up black people indiscriminately

bluguerrilla 01-8-2009 04:57 PM

Re: Obama's Inauguration

They're not just in the South. For serious.

Regardless, I highly doubt anything will happen and agree with Squeek's line of reasoning on why it's not even worth discussing.

So I guess none of you guys other than Rubix are going? :p
