After a thorough discussion with Velocity over the Riot Games permissions, legal Jibber Jabber, and their Riot Music Safe-Content Guidelines, we are lifting the ban on Riot Games content that can be used to the content listed on their "Creator-Safe Playlists" on SoundCloud, available at:

Please note, that any & all music released under Riot Games permissions MUST be on one of the above lists. K/DA and True Damage are still banned from being submitted.

Also, this prohibits content submitted this way to exist on the "Apple Store or Google Play Store unless they have either a written license agreement from us or a valid Riot API key and comply with our API Terms and Policies". Therefore, if there was ever to be a release on said platforms in the year of 21xx, content submitted this way would be filtered from being played or accessed on downloads provided on those platforms.


Edit: We've went ahead & gotten a valid Riot API key, and checked their literal 260-page document for API Terms and Policies (THANK GOD ACTUAL LEGAL PAPERS). We don't see anything mentioned about music, so we think we're in the clear and the last point is null.

Riot Games, if you are reading this, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD UPDATE YOUR LEGAL JIBBER JABBER PAGE TO INCLUDE MUSIC AS ITS OWN SECTION. it's nice to incorporate the situation of "streamers" and "content creators (gesturing at YouTubers)" into your legal code, but it is still very vague on terms and conditions of non-profit and non-commercial projects specifically involving music aside from the listed intellectual properties where-as music is not mentioned.

Your images just broke and it's been less than a month since submitting them lol. Goes to show you can never tell how long proof of permission will exist for.

So, this is being treated as a reject on their other content and the details added to the permission spreadsheet.

As stated by twitter/x post, SiLiS allows any song on his soundcloud or bandcamp to be used non-commercially, just make sure to reach out for permission beforehand as that will be appreciated

I pre-emptively added them to the permissions list but I've also made sure to send them a very nice email mentioning the tweet & requested formalities. Will change permission as-needed if they respond with other conditions in mind.


EDIT: Got a response back (wow, that was quick):

"Remixes will need to be discussed with the remix artist." and "Songs released in the future may be excluded from this agreement. If there are other songs that you would like to use that are not listed on my Soundcloud or Bandcamp, please let me know via email".

In the description for LuzeriA in the v9 sheet:
- "Can use #Luzeria or #ok tags" should be clarified to "Must be tagged with #Luzeria or #ok".
- "Can't use long/full version" should be added. (source, "「ロングバージョン」や「フルサイズ」等の楽曲データを使用する事は不可と致します。" listed in 【利用規約】 separately from 【一部楽曲の定義について】 for some reason)

An unfortunate implication is that, for example, we can't use volcanic because it doesn't have #Luzeria or #ok tags. (However, there is a remix called volcanic -転生- and the description contains a link to the short version... if anyone wants to chart it...)

We no longer have permission from Synthion, as the usage policy was updated last week:

Although FFR is not listed, we still have to contact the musician first and possibly pay licensing fees, and prior blanket permission is no longer valid since unpublished submissions must abide by the current policy.

Synthion will switch to a 2/5 rating "In-Game Only", content that was already published to the batch prior to this change will stay unaffected. The newest winter seasonal batch will be policed onwards.

I've been made aware of some legal writings in-regards to miHoYo & HoYoverse's Intellectual Properties and use-case regarding non-commercial use of their music of which spans across Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Honkai Impact 3rd. All of which are copy-pastes each unto themselves in select locations:

Essentially:

We are allowed to use their musical works given we credit miHoYo / HoYoverse, provide a stipulation stating 'all rights reserved' on the wiki when we link to the musician and their work, we stay non-commercial, and are not selling/distributing especially in a commercial sense. They also retain rights to revoke usage at any time (which is similar application to our permissions currently with Riot Games content, and OcReMix music).

We are not allowed to use music that contains vocals without also getting permission from the particular voice-over supporter of the language/version that we are obtaining the sample from. If the song you use from them includes vocals, make sure to include permission from the vocalist for that language, whether English, Japanese, or another.

Sakuzyo's "Obtained by" column in the v9 sheet should be changed since the currently attached post is about BOF permission, not Sakuzyo's blanket permission. (From the #simfiles channel, I heard it was verified by Tasselfoot)

Changing it to bmah / Tasselfoot since Tass doesn't explicitly say it anywhere on the forums, only reference is bmah on forums.

Removed the 3rd-party content in-regards to stepping on bigger rhythm gaming content's toes since that should apply to everyone a.k.a. the "Rule Changes" section of the same spreadsheet, highlighting that we shouldn't be stepping content that the musician doesn't directly own the rights for.

Dust's only contingency is for the song IDMNB to be specifically charted as a much harder song for the game.

So the other day I ran into a cool song from this artist that I saw we did not have perms for in the sheet so I went to try and grab full blanket perms and I only realized later it's the same artist that made Koneko's Cafe that was featured in Stepcon 2022 lol.

Well now we have full blanket permission for Cynax! Highly suggest checking them out and getting more of their stuff in-game :3 (I might be looking to step Mafu as a heads-up)

They didn't specify this but I would NOT recommend stepping anything from Adultery (sadly their best album) because Rotten Records doesn't fuck around, I'm positive that the live re-recordings of that are good though since those were largely released because Rotten fucking sucks for artists too.

I was more asking if the site considered that an acceptable permission use, I knew we've done stuff like that through cc on say ocr remix, but it occurs to me we use Riot Games work in the same way, so my question was really pointless / already answered lol
