JSRT

So, yeah, a sight reading tournament, something kinda not expected i suppose.

The tournament is over.

Table of Contents

About Rounds
This is a elimination tournament, which is mostly recommended to play on keyboard. There are going to be 5 rounds, which will be 3 days long.

Divisions
There are no divisions on this tournament, every participant will play the same song.

The Prize for the top 5 goes like this:

1.- 100,000 Credits
2.- 75,000 Credits
3.- 50,000 Credits
4.- 25,000 Credits
5.- 10,000 Credits

Which is a total of 260,000 credits.

Number Of Participants
The tournament will be 25 participants maximum, with each round taking 5 participants out.

Submission/Requirements for saving your score
For this you must have the following:

1.- Stepmania 5.0.5 to 5.0.12
2.- A SMO Account
3.- Set OpenGL as your Stepmania's Video Renderer.
1.- Open %appdata%/Stepmania 5/save and open both Static.ini and Preferences.ini
2.- Change VideoRenderers from d3d,opengl to just opengl And on Static.ini, add VideoRenderers=opengl (If it's not there)

Once you have that, follow these steps:

You must play the song on SMO so that you don't cheat the system. The reason is because SMO automatically matches the score to always be at the Judgment of 3.99, so, if you use another one, SMO will automatically match it.

And also you must play these on Stepmania 5 with OpenGL, because the StepFiles were made for that version. It won't work with other versions, even 5.1, because it gives a lot of error messages.

When you finish your play and get to the evaluation screen, ALWAYS remember to press right (just once) so that the score that SMO saved is displayed, the score has to match to the one from SMO, or else it won't be accepted.

Here's an example.

You only have to send a screenshot of the updated score you got on StepMania, i'll analyze the score with the server score.

For the people wondering if you can send several scores, yes, you can. I know that it might break the meaning, but people will complain if it's not like that.

Start of tournament
The tournament will start when the 25 player slots have been filled, or the 15th of October, 2016. (if the player count is at least 10)

Main Release Question
Will these songs be released publicly?

Of course yes, they're going to be released after we made some things to make them functional in all versions of SM5.

Regarding players who can't enable OpenGL
So, there are some players who can't enable the OpenGL On their StepMania, or that it breaks the flow of the framerate, so, there will be backup files to make you keep going, however, they'll be harder than the original stage's Original difficulty.

Update ON JSRT

We're just 5 remaining for the minimum amount of players for the tournament to begin on the 15th of October, 2016.

If we only start with 10, then every round will eliminate 2 players. And the prize pool has to be slightly changed. (But the total amount is still gonna be the same)

That's a interesting question.
The submission could be the best score that you can get, although you could play it several times. It's a good thing that smo always saves each individual play. But that breaks the purpose of the SRT which is always just one time, so to keep it like that, the screenshot must match with the first score you got on smo.

EDIT

Re: JSRT

Probably gonna leave the tourney, setting my SM to openGL changes my hit delay and makes me get double the perfects and fucks with my accuracy. Also can't make SMO scores appear on results screen, only guess is that it has to do with my theme.

Hmm, it sucks that it changes your delay, because it never does that. :/ Maybe try changing your visual delay from the debug menu, that probably will make it go back.
Also, about the score, its really likely to be your theme, some themes like transendece (kinda, but not that efficiently) update it automatically.

Actually, I thought about it for a while, and I decided to do backup files for the people who can't handle OpenGL on their sm's, so you can still hold up on the SRT.

As for livestreaming, I'm not sure if I'll allow until the tournament is over, because if you live stream the song, it would spoil the stage for the other participants who haven't played the song yet. (although it would be cool to see the SRT live)

I do, however have a suggestion. Maybe there should be a possibility of creating a room on Stepmania Online just for the tournament participants. :)

I could host a room so you guys can get in and play the songs, but the thing would be that still, the submission would be by screenshot, but I'll see if I can constantly keep a room for the participants only.

Finally a stepmania tourney. Maybe I'll be able to do something here. I'm definitely in.
Although, with my theme (I can't use default because gorillamania has so much I'm used to) I can't view the SMO given judgments. If you need them to match up precisely, I could whip something up in a few minutes, but can you let me know whether or not it's completely necessary?

It is actually necessary in order to check if there's no cheating. You can check the screenshot rules for more information.

EDIT: OK, it should do it correctly now.

YoshL 10-15-2016 01:08 AM

Re: JSRT

3 things

1) i screenshotted the whole thing, because pressing right didn't work for me to show sm online's scores.

2) you specify in the op that :
Quote:

For the people wondering if you can send several scores, yes, you can. I know that it might break the meaning, but people will complain if it's not like that.
which completely breaks the purpose of this being a sight reading tournament. okie.

3) finally, file is w/e. intro isn't very fair because there's no visual/audio cue as to when to actually hit the notes. otherwise, file felt boring. Looked through the file afterwards in editor, and i'm glad i did, because i was tempted to attempt this on index. forewarning to everyone else - don't. unintuitive doubletaps on index.

Re: JSRT

It's more like an "extended" sightread in that everyone is guaranteed to not have seen it before, but I still generally agree with the same sentiment.

I've not played it yet, but I'll probably be playing it a bit later in the day.

Yeah, i can agree on that, because i think that people would get mad if they don't have a second chance, that's why i allowed people to do more attempts. I know it breaks the purpose, but at least they won't get mad.

YoshL 10-15-2016 11:19 AM

Re: JSRT

people getting mad that they have to suit theor sightread is not a valid reason to change the way your tournament is run, when its supposed to be an integral part of the theme, but i digress. its your tournament.

jose656 10-15-2016 11:20 AM

Re: JSRT

One thing to mention, if you guys check the spreadsheet, you may notice that some scores have been submitted already.

This is because Akita and Kirby sent their scores to my Discord and Skype.

Kirby's score was hard to decide, because it had the same problem YoshL had with his theme, where the theme didn't updated the score, but i can verify this is the highest score, because it matches with the percentage of the website.

I did play this chart on index. (because I am a rebel) It seems pretty doable; however, what I do not like is the number of greats I have gotten on sightread. I am looking forward to get this score improved on (if allotted to and/or if possible).

YoshL 10-15-2016 12:03 PM

Re: JSRT

again, pressing right does not work.

but i can keep providing the smo room screenshot as well

========

It's certainly doable on index. I'm saying to probably not, because during the mods, there's patterns that require you to double tap with a finger unintuitively, which will actually fuck you up probably

Re: JSRT

the fact that:

- this file is the last round
- it's created by someone who is still playing in the tournament
- it's synced to a blue note
- the chart is easier than last round
- the mods are arguably easier than last round

... this is all inexcusable at this point. The last file was drifty to no end, which is a shame because it had the best in terms of mods out of this entire tournament, which to be perfectly honest, was not all that impressive. These are all really basic FGchanges/mods/other easy concepts and the difficulty never really got anywhere at all.

Here's my score: I can easily improve this down to a low-mid SDP if I really want to.

I was really excited for this tournament. I can't say that I'm too thrilled with the overall result, though.
