Blitz Tourney 2: Hi19Hi19 Edition
In honor of one of our most prolific stepfile artists, we are proud to bring you the first in what will be a long series of themed Blitz Tournaments: All Hi19Hi19, All the time!

THE GOAL OF THIS TOURNAMENT IS TO MAKE EVERY SONG SUPER HARD. YOU SHOULD DO BADLY AND STRUGGLE TO IMPROVE SO IF YOU GET DISCOURAGED BY BAD SCORES MAYBE DON'T

How does it work?

In a Blitz tournament, we follow the same scoring system as other non-elimination tournaments: There are 6 rounds, the scoring is cumulative, there are no eliminations, but there are two key differences:

1. The whole tournament is 2 weeks long

2. All six songs are playable, from day 1 to day 14

How do I enter?

What will the rounds be like?

Since all 6 rounds are open at once, and it is a cumulative event, my goal in song selection will be to basically pick 6 songs that would all have been of 'final round' difficulty in a normal tournament. Ideally nobody should be getting a AAA on more than 1 or 2 rounds that happen to dovetail with their particular skills, unless they put in a lot of work on improvement.

Why run this as a Blitz event?

I don't like how most tournaments involve a lot of getting 4 rounds in and deciding you can't catch somebody and quit, having put a month into the event. Since the whole thing is 2 weeks, it's a short enough time to keep attention and focus for the whole duration, and since all songs are playable at all times, I hope it will create more competition as somebody passing you in the standings will cause you to go back to other songs you 'finished' already to try and improve scores.

When will the tourney run?

Signups: Open Now
Tournament Starts: Sunday May 19, 7:00am Server Time
Tournament Ends: Sunday June 2, 7:00am Server Time

Other Stuff / FAQ

Things that should go without saying, really.

Don't cheat. Scores will submit automatically. If they don't, let me know and we'll look into it. By default you'll be placed into your division based on your skill rating. I will get somebody smarter than me to look over the list and make sure nobody is sneaking in with a sandbag. Etc etc. We've all done this lots of times.

Q: Can I enter with my lower division alt that plays index/one-hand/whatever?

A: Absolutely just PM me from your main account with the name, what division you want, and that you understand that account won't be eligible for prizes

A Reiteration

The songs are going to be really hard. I don't want anybody to AAA, Heck, I want people to struggle to FC. The goal of this structure is to keep people actively competing and trying for the whole two weeks, to eke out a few more points, not AAA/SDG the first 4 rounds and have the winner be determined in round 5 and 6.

What do I mean? I mean each division is likely looking at nothing but songs at the high end of the division ABOVE them.

D4        59 - 68 Songs 76-80

D5        69 - 82 Songs 86-92

D6        83 - 95 Songs 93-100

Prizing

Credits: 2,100,000
Tokens: Event Tokens for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each division

All participants in the blitz who submitted every round will receive a special Hi19Hi19 Blitz Tournament Profile badge indicating whether they were a participant, top3, or division winner.

All participants who advanced a division during the blitz will receive a special Division Advancement Profile Badge

The main goal here I'm aiming for is "Have these going like...all the time" which combined with the theme maybe not always being to everybody's taste means "If you don't want to or can't do this one, don't worry another will be along"

Sorry any confused D1 people. I thought I made sure I didn't pick any songs that needed unlocking, but Roller Coaster Ride was the milestone token for skill rating 20, so it's been replaced with another song in the same difficulty range.

I registered, and it says that I was registered, but I don't appear to be registered.

If I just play the songs now will my scores count retrospectively before the computer acknowledges that I'm registered?

You have to be manually placed. I'm checking in every half hour or hour to place people, but there's a small delay because I do have things to do.

Yesterday i would've been eligible for D3, but i went up 530 ranks! (3210 > 2780)
(Also don't ask me how i went up 530 ranks, i have no ideaa)

If you were that close to D4, there is a just about 100% chance that simply -playing- the D3 songs would have pushed you into D4 anyway.

i havent seen a single person who came in 1st place in a FFR tournament end up in the same division they started, often people start in like d3 and end up in d5 if they end up coming in 1st

Your 10k might be small compared to the total prize pool, but if you want you could donate it separately directly to a winner of your choice.

It'll be something percentage based but the final distribution will depend on the total number of players who actually submitted scores.

10,000 credits each to all 83 participants who submitted all rounds but were not in the top 3.



1,000 credits each to all 17 participants who submitted at least one round but were not in the top 3.



Top 3 Prizing:

Each division gets a percentage of the total prize pool remaining after the participant prizes.

D1 gets 8%

D2 gets 10%

D3 gets 12%

D4 gets 14%

D5 gets 16%

D6 gets 18%

D7 gets 22%



The top 3 from each division will split that chunk of pool 50%/30%/20%

Damn! Hell of a challenging de-rust. I signed up for the tourney hoping to practise before playing the files but again, I just haven't really had the time (nor the motivation), but I'll take the scores I've got - and the carpel tunnel. Top 5, as it stands, isn't too bad considering how far ahead the Top 4 are.

I've been thinking about what to do for D7s to give them an advancement token like that. probably it will be something like "Increase skill rating by 1 or more during a blitz"
