Info/Signups
Welcome to the Monstercat Tournament, an unofficial tournament for Divisions 1-5 (more on this later). This will be a cumulative tournament using raw scoring, and will consist of six rounds, each lasting for one week long. If that sounds interesting to you, feel free to post in the thread that you want to join! (Note: I will only be accepting accounts that are at least a month old in an effort to avoid sandbagging.) Signups will be open through the end of Round 1, which will begin on August 25th, 11:00pm server time.

Divisions
Now, as I mentioned before, this tournament is only going to be for D1-D5 (apologies to the higher divisions). This is for a few different reasons. First of all, this tournament will be mainly using files of songs that were released through Monstercat, or songs by artists who have released music through Monstercat in the past. Because of this, the number of available files for me to choose from was rather limited. To my knowledge, there are actually no Monstercat files in the game that are within the D6-D8 range, so it would be kind of impossible to run those divisions under the circumstances. In addition, with this being my first attempt at running a tournament, I want to focus on running only a few divisions this time around to get my feet under me. And finally, my current skill level in the game is only that of a high D2. It's pretty difficult for me to choose an appropriate line-up of higher difficulty songs, and I'd rather not upset a bunch of higher level players with my poor file selection. >.<

With that said, divisions will be determined by players' placement in the FFR leaderboards, and will be subject to change based on levelranks, replays, etc.

Ghosting
I will be accepting ghosting requests for this tournament, but only for one division per player. Ghosting alone will not make you eligible for participation prizes, though you are welcome to only ghost if you desire.

Submissions
As far as submissions are concerned, I'll only be accepting screenshots posted in the thread, preferably of the end screen after you've finished the song, with your username and the timestamp clearly visible. Any other kinds of screenshots may be accepted or denied based on my judgement. With that said, feel free to update your score as many times as you like within the given round!

Prizes
This tournament will start with a prize pool of 200,000 credits, provided by myself. However, if you wish to donate to the prize pool, go right ahead! I'll be sure to divvy up the credits between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division when the tournament is over, as well as hand out participation credits for those of you who submit positive, non-zero scores for all six rounds.

Late Scores
I will not be accepting late scores in this tournament. If you fail to submit a score within the time period of the round, you will get a 0 for that round, and will also no longer be eligible for participation credits.

You are correct that there's not enough Monstercat songs in game to support D6 and up, plus I think it's a great idea for your first tournament to get your feet wet with divisions you are more familiar with.

I'm in! This will be my first tourney after coming back from a 3.5-year hiatus (I'd fully intended to retire and then, you know, this happened). I felt way too rusty around the timing of the 13th OT, so I didn't join, but I think the rust is finally starting to come off

I am in for sure! i do not know how you plan on placing people in the tournament but i got placed in D2 in teh official tourney and i was out round 1 so clearly not a D2 player haha. i will play in whatever division i get placed in though and do my best

Also, I have seen some people asking to be placed in certain divisions/wondering where they'll be placed. I'm going to tentatively plan to do initial placements sometime on Tuesday, since I'll be off work and will have the time to do it. Until then, please be patient! Thanks!

Calculating what rate works best for a file to hit a certain difficulty tends to require input from someone roughly at that skill level because of how unevenly different patterns scale with rates.

Unless you have access to someone of D6, D7, and D8 skill levels to provide that feedback, it's probably best just to stick to divisions that have enough files that are already given difficulties that are roughly correct by FFR, rather than having to calculate uprate difficulties yourself.

An uprates tournament was definitely something I've considered doing in the past but the logistics of it is still surprisingly hard.

Hey guys, participant list should be updated yet again. We're over 50 people strong now! Thanks for all the interest, I'm looking forward to getting this thing going in a week.

...Oh yeah! Friendly reminder here that Round 1 will start in one week's time! I know I'm looking forward to it, and I hope you guys are too. :)
I'll be sending out a PM to everyone once the first round does start, so just in case you forgot that you signed up, hopefully that will be a nice little reminder.

Also, I'll be starting to give people their initial placements on the spreadsheet here shortly, and I'll make another post here when I finish with that. Before that, though, just to address a few things from the thread:

I agree with this. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to mess around with trying to find good rates for higher difficulty players. I think that'd be a bit too much for me to do with everything else on my plate atm.

I'll join. I'm level 73, but all my scores that got me that level are from 11+ years ago. In the month+ that I've been playing again, my top scores would get me level 68. I'll leave that up to you where to place me.
