Guitar Hero. Awesome.

Might just be because it's new and fun, but holy jesus Guitar Hero has a lot of zing to it. I know that this game is older than dirt, but I finally got around to picking it up, and it is disturbingly awesome. Full length songs (some originals, some covers), respective to difficulty notecharts, and a steller song selection.

My first woo was just simply how fun the game was. I've played my share of bemani style games (DDR, Pop'n, IIDX, Drummania), and I've never been treated to such a simple yet addictive instrument based game. While all the other games I've played are simply just button mashers, Guitar Hero actually makes me feel like I'm rocking out to a song, not just hitting colorful buttons.

While it's only 5 buttons, the game makes wonderful use of them. They all play in perfect patterns, and they don't go nuts nor wtf crazy ****ty (through hard, at least). It's actually pretty fun being able to play without looking at the screen and only listening to the music and you stum away.

The difficulty of the game has been well balanced. While I usually can pick up and go on bemani games, I sat through most of career mode on normal simply because Hord was exactly as it meant - Hard. One thing I've particulaly enjoyed is the fact that the lower difficulties don't mak the game boring. Even the easy notecharts are awesome, and incredibly addictive to play.

One noticable feature the game has is its phenominal song selection. I good deal of it is 80's rock, but there's some noteworthy bands that made it in, including Franz Ferdinand(sp) Incubus, and Sum41. It is such a treat to play these songs since they are actually good songs by my taste and opinion, thus making it much more enjoyable. I've never had so much fun rocking out to a song that actually feels like I'm playing it, and I actually find myself tapping my foot to the beat more often than not.

My opinion of this game. Rock on.

Guitar Hero sucks. I played it once and then gave it to my friend because it's incredibly boring/easy and has terrible music.

Coming from the guy who claims Pop'n has a lot of good music, i take that comment with a grain of salt.

ps I totally predicted you'd say something like that.

GUITAR HERO OWNS YEA!!, and no offence but only the last like 4 songs on hard are actually hard and thats only the solo's that are hard :P.

Been there, done that. I'm going to have to agree with Moogy on this one. There is nothing innovative about this game. It is essentially Amplitude and Frequency with a plastic guitar controller. Only reason it has sold so well is the fact that it features white American rock. No that is not a racist comment because it's true. If Guitar Freaks had come out in the US a while ago, GH wouldn't have even existed.

It's still fun to play though, regardless.

I will agree that it's absurdly easy. It was fun for a while, but after 2 hours I was already doing Expert songs and passing them. I rarely failed.

I can do some songs with just one finger on the frets assuming there are no doubles.

Oh come on, you can't just disregard that list just like that. Hell, I don't even like Elegy that much, but most people do.

Come on, all of those songs are great. And I'm just listing the ones I like with the most popular appeal. I like a lot of the random weird **** too because it rules. I mean, how can you not like MY GIFTS? Now that's pretty much the best song ever. Or Des Bossa? fffff is a fantastic song too. Kurageta is my favorite Pop'n song! Just give the list a try.

I have. Most of the songs on Pop'n feel like a dime a dozen. So little songs on the whole series are actually any fun to listen to, and if they have a good song, always, ALWAYS, it is complimented by an awful notechart. If I were to have my pop'n music stolen from me, I wouldn't have more than a sliver of heartbreak. Pop'n is just a trinket to me, since I only have it anymore just to say I have it.

As much as I'd like to say there were more songs on that chart that I actually liked, I've heard them thousands upon thousands of time in stepmania or when I was actually playing pop'n music. Jack, Rock Guitar, BTE, and Anthem Trance are the ones I had to leave out because I'm freaking SICK of hearing them.

Both Pop'n and IIDX have no appealing songs to me anymore that I can think of. I've heard every good song so much that it is impossible to remotly enjoy them.

Moogy 06-17-2006 02:58 PM

Re: Guitar Hero. Awesome.

I really don't know where you're coming from with the notechart thing. There's very, very few bad charts on Pop'n (much less than any other game), and, as a whole, it tends to have the best charts of any Bemani game. Even the bad songs are incredibly fun to play. Maybe you were playing on a mini controller?

I guess I can understand where you're coming from with the overplayed thing, but I have playcounts in the hundreds for many songs on both IIDX and Pop'n. The music never gets boring to me.

Meh, whatever.

Yeah, GH became easy after a while, but it's still decently fun (Note: I have never touched Pop'n, IIDX, Drummania or anything of that Bemani sort, not that I don't want to, because I can't find it anywhere). GH2 will have 3 fret chords, increased difficulty, and the ability to play the rhythm, bass, or lead part of a song.

I'm gonna browse E-bay for those other games.

Moogy I can't believe you forgot "Sekai Wa Watashi De Matteru," or "Waiting For You" in English. That could be THE song of Pop n' Music for me. =D

I dont have GH, but i do know that X-Play rated it a 5/5, perfect rating!

Re: Guitar Hero. Awesome.

Some reviews from X-Play I take with a grain of salt. The main reason Adam and Morgan liked it was because mainly of the music. They also said Beatmania US was a ripoff of Guitar Hero. Uhhh yeah Ape, X-Play really is right all of the time. >_>

/sarcasm

Re: Guitar Hero. Awesome.

I don't blame X-Play for calling BMUS a Ripoff. In respects to both games, IIDX is a pain in the dick to learn, the music they gave you to work with was only so-so, the graphics and interface wern't fabulous, and hitting 7 buttons with a turntable takes much more time and dedication to get even remotly decent with compared to Guitar Hero. Guitar Hero had familiar songs, an easy learning curve, nice graphics that were not random images like so many IIDX videos, and is extremly appealing to the majority of gamers. Proof for this would be my brother. I've tried to get him to try out IIDX and Stepmania, and he just never even liked it at all. He sees my Guitar Hero controller one day, decides to give it a shot, and before I knew it he went through and unlocked every song, character, and guitar for me. For someone who just despises music games he really took a liking to it.

Hell, it's in his room right now >_>

Re: Guitar Hero. Awesome.

But that's the thing Snow. Konami made Beatmania SEVEN YEARS AGO. To call an American iteration of BM a rip-off of GH when GH itself is a rip-off of GF by Konami, then I just call that irony.
