Differential Aptitude Test (D.A.T.s) The Differential Aptitude Tests for Personnel and Career Assessment (DAT for PCA) are a series of assessments designed to measure an individual's ability to learn or to succeed in a number of different areas such as mechanical reasoning, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and space relations. All of the DATs are timed, multiple-choice tests with time limits ranging from 20 to 30 minutes. These assessments can be used individually or administered as a battery of tests. DAT for Guidance assesses eight different types of ability, or aptitude, which are related to success in different areas of employment. Its co-standardized tests provide an eight point profile which portrays relative strengths and weaknesses in an individual's key aptitudes. Dr. Taylor considered various variables for the study, which are problem solving ability, interest in subject matter, differential abilities, IQ, success in Mathematics etc. Sample for research was 371 junior maths students of two public schools in Iowa. Finding of the research showed that high verbal ability, personality factors, reading ability, musical ability, interest in math, and socioeconomic data have all been shown to predict or correlate with math achievement. Also, factors of mathematical aptitude are: quantitative thinking, computational skills, interpretation of natural science reading materials, vocabulary, use of sources of information, general reasoning and logical thinking, knowledge of science, interpretation of social science concepts, and algebraic skills. b. Genetics of Mathematical Aptitude Author explains how variation in Mathematical aptitude is important for many aspects in life, especially for career in science and technology, engineering and mathematics.
