Rules of requesting artwork.

Requests

Seems as though there are quite a few people who come in here, asking for super awesome backgrounds and stepmanier art and just don't have the right approach, and don't seem to get very many responses from people, if any. These are just a few guidelines for those of you who would like to use the artistic talents of the members of 32bit RGB.

- Offer something in return.

This can be anything (credits usually work well) from an honorable mention, photos of your neighbors sideboob, or a pet Velociraptor. Doesn't matter what it is, the point is to give something in return for our services. Not to mention you will get a lot more responses from members. (This isn't completely necessary if you're a super awesome person, but chances are, you're not, so offer something anyway)

An effective way to draw people in to your thread is to advertise what you want done, followed by what you're willing to give in exchange for the service in your thread title, eg.

[Need Stepmania background] - 25k Credits

The amount of entries you recieve usually coincides with the reward amount. So a reward of say...150k credits, will bring in quite a few more responses than say a 10k reward.

- Be specific.

Include all the details you can think of pertaining to the artwork you have in mind. This can be anything from album information, song titles, dimensions, characters, color schemes...whatever information you can supply us with, the more the better. Just give us something to work with, we can do the rest.

- Give feedback.

Not on just the ones you like. All of them. Every last one. It's important that each of us knows how our drafts concur with your thoughts, and to know if revisions are necessary.

- hay gais kan i hav a rly kool sigg i want one with flams.

No. Please use proper grammar. Typing like a noob will not get you anywhere on the internet.

- DON'T BUMP.

If you didn't get any responses, you probably didn't follow these guidelines. Bumping your topic just lets everyone else know your thread failed. Click the Edit button, then revise your thread...People are much more apt to reply to a good revision rather than a bump.

Shops

Some of you here have developed a handy way to make a few credits and keep your artistic skills sharp, and that is through the use of graphic shops. This is usually done by setting credit amounts for certain types of graphics to be made, such as banners or backgrounds. As far as shops are concerned all request rules still apply.
These guidelines are geared towards the designer.

- Variety.

Try and offer up as many different shapes and sizes as possible. Just like a real shop, offer many different services and styles to the people. You'll most likely get much more business this way.

- QUALITY.

I cannot stress this enough...Keep things neat, clean, and most importantly LEGIBLE. Nobody wants a signature that they can't even read, so try and select the appropriate font, size, and color to suit each piece. Quality is by far the most important rule in art if you want to be successful, so take your time on things.

- Portfolio.

When you open a shop, you should always have a few pieces you can show off, to give people a feel for what you're capable of creating. Here is where you would put up your best pieces, between 7 and 10 should be sufficient (if you think that's a lot, then you don't need to be opening a graphic shop). Nobody wants to hire an artist if they've never seen their artwork (or shoddy artwork).

- Organization.

Take the time to setup your shop in an easy to understand layout. Be clear about prices, creation time, sizes, and types. How you present your shop is also artwork in itself, so make it look nice.

I'll add more later. These are just some of the most basic ones that shouldn't be hard for anyone to follow.

Maybe there should be a rule to title the thread a certain way, like in the homework section.

[R] Sig/Avi - 10k Credits (For Requesting)
[s] Name's Shop (Shop)
[A] Fractal Art (Showing off artwork)
etc...
etc...

I like the idea of showing what is in each thread, bust most of us do a decent job at that as it is, and don't need to use symbols for it.

If that would be the case, I'd make a lot more gfx ;P

In all seriousness, good topic. About time that there are some guidelines, let's just hope people follow them.

I also like Commander's idea, would really be helpful to have such a system in place.

Big friggen emphasis on this. It's beyond frustrating when you make something, only to hear that "woops lol it was 1024x768 not 124x78 srry bro".

Overall I'm liking these guidelines.

Revised a bit, anything else anyone would like to see added?

I'm bumping this for relevance, and because it should be stickied at some point.

There's been a few people that just don't know how to properly request stuff in here.
