So regarding my division placement in OT 14.

Im currently right on the line between division 5 and 6 and im wanting to compete in division 5 to have a chance at earning some token charts- but i dont want to have to avoid playing and sandbagging my rank to do so. Could this be taken into consideration if i happen to move into division 6 between now and the start of the tournament? Or am i forced to just not submit scores until then?

easy solution: just win D6 :)

Tbh, this is kinda just as bad as actual sandbagging. You've got some pretty good scores very recently so just continue to play and improve like you've been doing, that's about all anybody is able to do.

tbh my first time in D6 i didn't expect to even make it to round 3. ended up just outside of top 8. you never know what's gonna happen til the tourney starts, just do your best o/

however i'm also a bucket of rust so nowadays i'm just happy to make it past round 1 LOL

don't count other players out as well. The official has been known to push loads of people past where they currently are. However I never skill boosted during a single tourney lolol

I don't feel i've counted anyone out- I just feel ill be able to compete better in division 5 than 6. Its kind of a slap in the face to work my butt off to improve just to end up at the bottom of the next division at the start of OT14 and get my butt kicked when as it stands im riding the line between the 2 divisions. One good score would push me over that line and I don't want to ruin my shot at having a good tournament over it.

I'd appreciate it if a tournament organizer could weigh in on this

Everyone has their own motives and I certainly don't intend to downplay your desire to enjoy your experience in the OT, but from my perspective as someone on the fence between 6 and 7, I've been using this time to try and push myself as much further as I can in case I do get place into the higher division. It may feel rewarding to be a finalist in the lower of the two divisions, but in my opinion it would be more rewarding to have the hard work pay off by having the privilege to compete with people in the higher skill bracket.

And, as PhantomPuppy said, you may surprise yourself with your performance if you do get placed into D6. You're certianly a strong player in some areas and you show alot of potential, so either way I think people will be impressed by your performance.

What this conversation usually boils down to is people wanting to unlock event token songs, and I can personally guarantee that I'm gonna run a buttload of them so that you and everyone else that is concerned in this regard will be able to ^_^

We have also been talking about rewarding Division Advancement in a similar fashion to help encourage personal improvement over prize seeking :D

Hope this helps!

Just signed up, so lets see how it goes this time. I was close to top 8 last time and aiming to get there this time. Good luck to all!

If you're on the line odds are you'd be bumped anyway. That said, nobody here knows the line anyway because the skill rating system is not how we place people for the tournament. I don't like the current way it's set up and haven't since its release.

Re: 14th Official Tournament

Also purposely holding back scores when you know you'd be moved up is cheating and will be dealt with as such.

So you acknowledge the flaw in the system in place, yet offer nothing in terms of a viable course of action other than just dealing with a butt whooping in a higher division and then go on to say it'd be cheating on my part to try and avoid that?

I mean no disrespect, but I'm just trying to unlock charts and have a good time- the only way to do so is by doing well in tournaments (at least for the unlock charts anyway). I feel as though I'm being punished by an unlucky circumstance while the game itself is actively incentivizing me to do what you're telling me not to by the way the unlocks are designed.

Surely you can understand where my frustration is coming from here?

EDIT: I can also understand your desire to keep the divisions in the tournament fair, but what about my situation is fair to me in this circumstance?

The game isn't designed to give you the tokens. I might have a token from an official, but I never improved. When I was actively playing I was pretty stagnant and would have rather had to deal with an untimely skill boost than being in the same division year after year.

3 of your top 5 scores were obtained this week... You are skill boosting. That is your reward. It wouldn't be fair to the lower division you'd place in to keep you where you don't belong. You are looking at it pretty selfishly.

and for this it is already accounted for in the increase in prize amounts from division to division... I know I won't make it like 3 rounds, but I'm also borderline looking at my rank. So if I could just ask to be D6 because of my rank and get something cute rather than push myself to get back to where I was and better... then I would probably just move up and get my little gift and stop playing.

Re: 14th Official Tournament

Tokens/bragging rights are a nice bonus, but the tournament is just a push to grind stuff that you may not generally want to play and hopefully you improve over the course of it from the grind.
Apparently I have two tokens, which are just two more files that I don't play. Skill boosting was way cooler and felt way better than my results.

Raising your ceiling is hard.

*cough* uh I literally just said that I don't use said system so.....
It is cheating and it's literally against our rules for you to do what you're saying you're going to. You'd end up bumped up in the tournament, or removed from it entirely. You do realize that there's going to be people at the bottom of a division no matter what right? It's a competition, we probably shouldn't have divisions and it just be a battle of the best of a best like most games. I can't believe I literally have to say this every year. We're one of the only games that gives an opportunity for people of all skill levels to have a chance.

Then this isn't the tournament for you. This is our major tournament for the year. We're strict on our rules for it. You can unlock any of the event tokens in any other event run on the site. The only things you cannot get are the V0 token and the tokens for D7/D8.

I've been the scraped barely into D5 person for like idk how many years now. I couldn't compete at my peak and I surely cannot compete now as my skill has dropped to a D3 level. It sucks, but I also know this is a competition and is meant to be as such.

tldr: This is a TOURNAMENT, it's not meant to be easy. If you want to win prizes you need to fight for them. I'll also warn you now because you are fully aware of it being cheating if you're caught doing so still the punishment will likely be more severe then a bump up in the tournament or just removal.
