First track uploaded - The Grind (Edited updated version)

Hey, this is my first track that I'm uploading. I've made a bit of other stuff, but not this good. Let me know what you think.

OLD:

EDIT: I tried to improve the song based on some comments. I've never used any EQ or compressor or anything before, so hopefully I made it sound better, please tell me what you think because I'm obviously still learning. I tried to make it sound less "muddy" but might have made it worse overall.

I'm no musical expert--I don't listen for technicality and **** like that--so you won't be getting any remarkably useful info from me.

I really liked the transitions, and the overall layout, and the different melodies came together nicely. I really hope you're stepping this. ;)

For your first uploaded track, it's delightful to listen to. The ending reminded me of some of dimrain's stuff, but with your own flair.

Seriously, step this, and keep making more.

10/10 because it made me smile.

Thanks :) . Maybe I'll try stepping this while I'm on break, but I haven't stepped anything in a looong time lol.

haha this is your first uploaded song and it's superior to what most people who have been posting here for a while. (I think so atleast)
sure the drums are bland and a little generic - maybe spice them up a bit - but the meloies are very good imo.
very good song overall.

can't wait to hear more stuff

I'm sure he'll step it himself considering he's one of the best step artists on the site, haha.

Whoa someone's a dickhead. Instead of bashing other artists vicariously through another one's thread, maybe try critiquing their music?

Anyway, for a first try this is pretty good. A lot of muddy problems everywhere (I suggest learning to analyze frequencies of a sound, and looking up "frequency masking"), and that square lead is WAY too loud. Not really digging how plain 1:45-3:05ish is. There's a lot that can be done in that time frame, but it's kind of just a bell with a kick that doesn't really fit imo. Try effects, pads, whatever to fill it up better.

the kick is really weak (eq and compression go a long way for kicks, as well as sidechaining).

Overall a really really good first attempt. The main problem I believe is that lead just overpowering everything. Great job. :)

Hmmm, this is good and certainly has potential. Got like DDR/ITG written all over it. There were a few things I picked up. That lower synth was a bit groggy in the beginning, didn't seem to suit lower notes. Suited higher notes more in my opinion. Levelling was a bit all over the place, that square/pulse synth was a bit high for me at times and kind of didn't seem to mix with the rest of the tune even if all the notes worked, though I reaaaaaaaaaaly loved the notation and sequencing of that lead (the 8bit techniques to me were orgasmic).
Something else to consider is maybe doing a filter sweep of the synth that came in at the start of the tune, I think that would stop it getting a bit repetitive though that's only me (personal preference really). Not really negatives, just minor tweaks.

Positives now, amazing structure and the feel was excellent. Nice flow and all that jive - real good.

In all honesty, I'd maybe try download some packs for FL as the stock sounds are a bit flat in my opinion.

[edit: a bit of reverb in the lower parts in my opinion wouldn't go a miss, maybe give it more atmosphere]

NEEEEEEEEDS MOAR AMEN BREAK! XD (IDM joke) haha.

8/10 man, hope you can come back with another edit if you see fit to change it :)

Well done on first attempt.

also step my music

Your compositional skills are fine, but your EQing is terrible. Don't worry, it's always bad when you first start, it's a matter of training your ear. For example, the percussion sounds flat and the square sounds far, far too loud.

You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Just train your ear and hear how other tunes are mixed.

sorry i hurt your little feelings via the internet

i better censor myself from now on

also who said i was bashing other artists, i was actually more referring toward myself seeing as I still struggle to produce melodies of this quality after 3 years of producing but it just seems your feeble mind interpreted it as mudslinging, oups. (but indeed it is compositionally better than most of the tracks here imo - which is an observation, nothing more nothing less)

Say what you want, but a bit more poise would go a long way. Also I wasn't offended in the least, just a bit taken aback that someone would say something that rude so bluntly.

May I point you towards my User Title?

Anyways, this shouldn't drift into a discussion about my behavior or thoughts and actions and rather about the work that behanjc has produced.

In conclusion:

- Work on the drums, bland at times. Too quiet in the mix also.
- Mastering and EQing. As mentioned you will get better with time with this.

Otherwise a fine track, as aforesaid.

Thanks for the comments guys. I really hardly know anything about music production (like no idea what sidechaining is lol), but I'll look up some of the tips and try to improve either this or in my next song for sure.

Also, let me apologize to you that my comment (or shall I say comments regarding my comment) clogged up your thread which was not my intention at all.
Can't wait what you have next in store for us.

And maybe... just maybe we might collaborate in the future.

Wow, sounds loads better, you sure this is your first track, mate ? ;)
I do enjoy the kick much more now, sounds right in the mix and the synth is pretty exciting too, well done.

First time ever messing with the default settings lol. I've made other tracks but they haven't been this good. Glad you think it sounds better though, thanks.
