Headphones or Speakers?

Hey everyone, I have been playing FFR when I get home from work or school lately and find that it is a great way to wind down after a long day while still keeping your brain active and awake(meaning I don't fall asleep on the keyboard). I like nodding my head to the music as I hit the notes on the easy songs, it feels almost melancholic. I want to take this to the next level thought, and am looking at getting either a pair of nice headphones that I can use for music and gaming or getting a good PC speakers set.

What do you guys prefer when playing FFR? Most of the time when I play I am alone so there is no worry about bothering others in the house and the room I am usually in is fairly sound proof anyways. I have tried using my cheap headphones that I got given by some company just giving stuff away with their logo on it and they don't sound that great, but they never do anyways so my testing is not working so well. Let me know what you all think and any adice you might have :)

I am going to try and get my skill up a little bit, so I decided to get some good PC speakers so that I can keep beat with my keyboard and the speakers together. I didn't want to spend to much on this as I am going to buy some really good headphones soon so I didn't get the best speakers but I did get a 5.1 set of Logitech PC speakers from https://www.for-sale.ie/pc-speakers-5-1 as the seller had upgraded to a new set and wanted to just get rid of his old ones. Now I am going to get some more games in and see if my scores change at all. Thanks for the advice/banter everyone!

I'm not sure of your level of play but some people use the clicking of their keyboard to help with rhythm. if you're one of these people then speakers would be better or bone conduction headphones that are wired. if this isn't an issue then headphones would be the way to go.

but i mean why not both? get a good pair of headphones and a good set of computer speakers that way you can choose between the two depending on what you're doing on your pc.

i use both headphones and speakers at the same time because double the audio input yields a 3.53% increase in skill

So maybe I should get two sets of headphones(one for each ear) and some speakers. That would be an even higher skill increase!!

Re: Headphones or Speakers?

that would not result in a net decibel reception increase

a better strategy would be to use parabolic amplifiers to focus the sound coming from each muff to the half of muff in question closest to the half of the ear in question after strategically placing both headphones on your head straddled across the different halves of your ear lobe

however in order to really notice the effective increase in auditory cue information you'd need to offset the headphones from one another and also relative to the speaker set

a 10-15ms offset is advised as this roughly translates to 30 frames per second and we all know the human ear can't hear faster than 30 frames per second

beyond 33 ms (60 fps) degradation of audio quality is incurred both in the initial output of sound and exponentially multiplied after the information passes through the optic buoys floating in the audioptic nerve seas

i always find that playing with headphones usually means my music is way to quiet relative to my key tapping. personally i prefer speakers, but either can work when i want to play.

I find that headphones let me hear more depth in the songs, which translates to recognizing other sounds going on in the song that may have been stepped, as well as removing more distractions in general

Re: Headphones or Speakers?

open back headphones or semi open back headphones
or just any closed headphones if they don't eliminate the keyboard sound too much
