I effed up bad.....

So In January I wrote my English 12 provincial worth 40% of my mark... It took me three hours. I thought I did amazing due to the fact that it was one of the easiest tests I had written.

I got my mark back today, and to say the least, I almost broke down when I saw it.

I wrote a 58 on the provincial...

My mark dropped from 94% to 79% and this affects my Grade 12 average so much that I am no longer able to get any scholarships and it will be harder for me to get into my program...

I have never received a mark this low on anything in my life and all of my teachers are shocked as to the reason why I received such a terrible mark. I have requested a copy of my test from the government and I really hope it was just a "Classic Rookie Mistake" which "raped" my mark.

...

It better be. You don't deserve shit like that. And honestly, from the way it sounds, if it really was one of the easiest tests you had written, I sincerely doubt it was a mistake on your part. Screw ALL the governments!

Sounds like your test was reviewed by the Quebecois government.

No one in my school received anything higher than a 83%. We have like 6 insane nerds in my school. Me being one of them. It might have something to do with the fact that our teachers are on strike and they may have not actually marked them, but sent them out to be marked.

I don't mean to come across as insensitive to your troubles, but what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. So long as your situational awareness doesn't fail too, that is.
Only joking! I do hope this turns around in your favor.

Re: I effed up bad.....

Also, my English teacher thinks that when they bel-curved it they raised the requirements for the grades, like instead of an 86% for an "A" you need a 90%. But, I don't see how that would lower my mark drastically.

Im going to talk to my teachers after spring break and after this teacher strike is over and try to find a solution.

What was the english teacher like before this?
If he's a prick like some teachers that sucks dude :l
If not there was probably a mistake or something and you should ask if you could do anything like bonus work to get it back up haha if teachers know you're hard working and a success a majority of the time they'll be lenient.

Wow, what the hell? That doesn't even make sense (especially the part about nobody receiving higher than an 83%). There must be some kind of really serious mistake, like using the wrong total points or counting the answers wrong. I really hope you can get this fixed.

What kind of test was this, exactly?

This was written back in January, there is nothing that can be done to up marks. :( I already tried.

@Reincarnate:

It is a English 12 Provincial (Final) which consists of three major writing compositions and about 20 or 30 multiple choices.

@jizzdude

Thats not the point, something obviously went askew in their marking because there is no reason for such shitty marks on such an easy test.

Re: I effed up bad.....

Is it possible that the grading rubric for the written portion involved things that nobody was informed about in specific?

Losing that much on multiple choice doesn't seem to be realistic here, so either the grading on the written portion was wtfomg or they ****ed up across the board somewhere.

Either that or its hard-curved and the graders are just tightwads.

It says on our test what each portion is out of.

The multiple choice was only worth 15% of the overall grade of the test.

I believe it was the graders.

EDIT: Ugh sorry for that awful post.

I hope your test gets fixed!! I'm sure it will - if everyone did bad, there's definitely something wrong haha.

What I mean is do you know what the guidelines/goals were for the written portion? I.e. was it just graded on overall quality or were there specific things you had to mention/talk about?

For instance: "Write an essay on X and its effect on A,B, and C" and you write a fantastic essay all about X and maybe its effect on A and B but practically nothing on C.

Any sort of "checkmark guidelines" that could have slipped past everyone's radar in some way.

We had to compare two passages about love using quotes, Analyze an essay on road maps, and write an essay on something (Cant remember).
