Well, when the pack is opened anyone will be able to submit.
Mina is helping me out with judging this go around, and I'd be aware that he will have no problem denying files, and critiquing them as he sees fit. Only send your best stuff. *WHEN SUBMISSIONS OPEN* which is not now. |

Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
nah nevermind, i guess i missed the point of 'dump files'
but its cool, i did ask u to tear it up, just dont hate me k??? |
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
I don't think anyone is really tearing the fuck out of you as long as you're willing to learn from the very poor reception of whatever it is that you sent in; your standing relative to this situation is what you make of it really
that being said - based on the reception of your submission according to what people are saying here, it is pretty evident that your perception of dump charting is indeed fundamentally flawed there is no rule stating that dump files are by definition characterized by low-quality patterns set to abrasive wall noise garbage for w/e reason there is no rule stating that dump files are by definition bereft of any coherent patterning structure whatsoever and thus consequently, and most importantly of all, there is no rule stating that dump files are by definition bereft of any qualitative value whatsoever as a matter of fact this misconception is something that people such as mina, lofty, scintill and skwid have been actively challenging through very respectable efforts in the past few years if not more than that people choose to play files based on what it feels like to experience them as a player executing the patterns; if your file holds no value in that respect, then it is automatically of no value to anyone else regardless of whatever infantile amusement you may derive from ironically putting down shitty patterns to wall noise under ddream or w/e - the point I'm trying to get across is that even though dump files differ from more conventional ones in regards to how certain patterns are placed relative to certain sounds, this principle remains very much in effect nonetheless your file holds no qualitative value whatsoever, and the fact that you have clearly disregarded that factor just comes to show how utterly futile your current stance will remain when aspiring to amount to anything in that figurative line of work unless you are willing to change it - this is further reinforced by lofty specifically requesting that people send in their best stuff if you do sincerely wish to learn from the error of your ways, lofty's 3rd pack and mina's 4th pack are good places to start... or you could just wait till this pack gets released as I do find the currently-approved material within it to be quite respectable even as it stands for now notable files worth checking out would be addicted to love, desenchantee, desire of ages, prototype, scarlatti 2.0, and last but most certainly not least the poet and the pendulum - scary halloween show (yolomania 3) is also a very solid example worth looking at if not... then suit yourself I guess, just don't be surprised anymore at how people are going to take it |
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
look, i wouldn't have sent a file if it was devoid of effort. the notes in the file are not arbitrary. it's cool if ya'll don't like the file, but don't write it off as unplayable or bereft of value.
i feel like you guys are disrespected by me trying to make a dump file? if that's the case, my bad! just drop it and i'll leave dumps alone.. forgive and forget ok? sheesh |
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
Your error was more one of "song" choice than anything else.
All anyone is pointing out is that dump files can be songs that are enjoyable and charts that are fun. I'll say this again, because it seems as though you missed it: I urge you to chart something musical and send it in. We will both be glad to review it. |
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles

Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
Aku no Hana (windmill) - This is kind of like crowdpleaser only if the trills were at the end and the file was less interesting prior to it and it went to anime. I recognize this lends itself to your general style however I find it a frustrating exaggeration of it.
48th trillz And the Vulture Beholds (kabopius) - Very eveningeqsue, aside from the runningmen which feel great. File tends to be slightly right hand biased and some of the tighter 24th patterns might be better off loosened up but it's good as-is. kbro Chokoreito (porousdong) - There's some pretty neat stuff in here. There's also some pretty unplayable garbage, but I'll work with you to shape it up. accepted pending major revision Dat $tick (skwalamari) - Good song choice for broken 64th burst stream. Intro needs to be cut but I can do that. Non 64th parts of the file could use another detail pass if you want. rap song that isn't by bouncy j Pen Pineapple Apple Pen (perkyplump) - Great stuff. You aren't afraid to use patterns that most people would consider to be annoying or obnoxious and good enough to make them play well. Only comment is that the ending jack is a touch aggressive. limeapple Really Long Title (treehill) - I have the same general reservations about this file that I did aku no hana. The difficulty spike at the end is so high that the file is either boring for a minute and then interesting for about 10 seconds, or playable for a minute and then rage inducing. Looking at it in the editor I thought it might make an o.k. bursty accuracy file but it just doesn't play that way in actuality. plus the title is really long how do i wordplay off that Scapegoat Boy (soiltill) - A little long but it's a nice jack file. Jacks are left hand biased however not only is it musically justified it's musically demanded. Personally I feel like you could have taken more (many mores) liberties with the chorus and sculpted some more interesting stuff into the slower areas. The solo, as short as it is, is still great to play through. As it stands it does adhere to your more technical style, though I think it would benefit from getting a stab of scary halloween show. up2um8 Vitamin B (saucykrill) - I'm going to be honest not only would I have minded accepting this but I stepped telephone shopping and nearly submitted it myself however neon chewed my ass out over it and now I'm rejecting this out of spite. i mean its really rejected because it's an 11 second file with 80 notes 60 of which are in a less than 2 second burst and the easier difficulties don't exactly completely salvage it Your 10% (palpablepulp) - I haven't had a chance to play this yet but I've gone over it in the editor and it's already been greenlit by neon. Great file, a+ construction, excellent attention to detail. I'm worried that some of the denser 32nd patterns might be unreasonably difficult but if they are I'll let you know. There's a clear grace note at 6.063 which you (un)intentionally? omitted despite putting an arrow to one a couple seconds later. The slow section after the halfway mark could use some slowdownbuildupclimax theory and I wouldn't mind seeing some extra layering towards the end of it before the last quarter of the song. u are good at this |
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
oh
I gave Scapegoat Boy the lowest chance of getting accepted I gave Aku no Hana the highest btw |

Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
Speedbore Blandy [REBUKE] (aloof) - So there's nothing technically wrong with this file, which is the first problem. Given that this is a dump pack from and evaluating from that given perspective the medium chart misses a lot of opportunities (I mean its a technical chart, so this is kind of a tautological statement). Personally while I don't care for the music I find the chart playable and even somewhat enjoyable, however it would be better suited for an Icyworld pack and that's where it should go. The hard chart I suppose may be considered a technical dump. The repeated [14] jumpjacks are incredibly draining given the heavily anchored nature of the file and the drudgery of that is only broken by half dozen measure long left hand trills with inlaid jacks. I have a hard time imagining anyone enjoying the file even at 1.0.
fine execution but poor premise |

I'll work on it this week
|
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
Addiction 451 (broomtheatre) - That intro oh my god dme flashbacks. I have no idea what's going on with the file or song but I'm fairly certain I found it fun.
accepted by decree of lord loftysaurus due to my confused ambivalence Do You Freeze it? (hamsterdam) - Freezestream: From what I understand lofty is working with you on revising this and it's accepted pending said revisions. I mostly don't mind the file as-is personally however I really think you failed to capture the vocal intensity and pitch dynamic at 104.1s, other than that there's some rough stuff but nothing else that I strongly feel needs to be addressed. chill leisure dump for the less skilled Old Yeller (laffytaffy) - I'm not a huge fan of how abruptly the intro 32nds fall away into 16ths. I understand why you did it but I'd prefer to see 32nds interspersed throughout the intro. Once again great non-conventional pattern use rooted in strong technical fundamentals. Good job. lofty thinks the song is meh but hes dumb Pun-ishment (quim) - Wow you took this song in a completely different direction than I would have. There are some super nitpicky details that I want to fix (like an 8th anchor starting a note late halfway through the file). I also find myself wondering why you chose not to place a jumptrill starting at 93.2s when you had done so to the same sound everywhere else. There are some really cool things going on in the instrumentals that I think you captured well, however I also think the file would be greatly served by using 16th minitrill patterns in the section rather than minirolls. vocals in the song are kinda meh imo i could be dum tho purediarrhea (deluge) - Some of the patterning in this is excellent, but unfortunately this suffers from the same systemic issue shared by most of the other rejected files. About half the file is 5 nps and the other half is 30; the ending spikes to over 40 with mash inducing patterns reminiscent of spica. The result is an uneven play experience that almost inevitably results in frustration and a lack of satisfaction. Not what the pack is looking for. file isn't that bad tbh but i couldn't pass up the wordplay |
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
so should I tone down the ending or make the beginning harder lol
probably tone down the ending edit: lol "deluge" |
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
The whole file would need a structural reworking given that the "song" was no longer the "song" you chose.
|
Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
i have no idea what that means

Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certified Operator [CPR Op] (loafers) - Solid file. If the ending weren't so hard I'd like to see the slow section more fleshed out, but it's fine. The last few measures of the 32nds are super right hand triplet biased so if you want to fluff out the hand balance a bit that's up to you.
wayner Stop n gimmie a lifty (squintaclemonster) - Amusing song/chart. Fun to play. There are some nitpicky as fuck things like the super close mines at 105 but I'll change them. tickle dat cat Hold the Line (wafles) k |
