Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

What did you think? I loved it. The slower than usual pace of movies these days was a great surprised for me. I think it paid a great tribute to the first half of the book and it was actually very well made. My favorite Harry Potter movie by far. Not going to spoil anything for those of you that haven't seen it yet ;)

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

I agree, it was phenomenal to sit back and think, "I don't have to worry about missing out on a ****-tonne of events." The acting was spot on, the cinematography was brilliant, and if it's any indication of part II, I'm wagering on a full-blown mind**** in eight months.

To me, it's the best one yet.

I loved it. I camped out at the movies from 6am on Thursday until it started (: I didn't like the ending though, I guess I'm just bitter cause it was a cliff hanger and I have to wait forever to watch what happens after that part ):

Is this part of the harry potter series? What is with the "part 1" thing?

There's 2 more movies, this one and Part 2 of this one.

I camped out as well. From 2 pm to 12 am. I needed to see this movie. It was entertaining, and a couple of funny parts. They really tried to get everything in there...maybe that's why there's two parts. Can't wait for the second part.

the movie was really cool, I liked it. But i felt like it went really fast in some parts, still I think it was very well made they skipped some really minor thinks but that doesn't matter.

I also hate I have to wait until June to see the next half.

From what I've heard, the movie was outstanding. I have yet to see it, but, from what I've seen, it will be worth my buy.

I envy those whove seen it already. /sarcasm

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

It was by far my favorite movie in the series. I've really only gone to see all the other movies because I loved the books, but never really the movies.

I quite enjoyed the movie, as many of you have. Can't wait for the second part though; the ending was about the biggest cliffhanger you could get (although I've read the book).

Its all about the money. They basically double the money they would get if they made one whole part cause people are still willing to camp out (Like you and I did xD) and they are still pretty up there on the box office, that x2=1 movie, smart.

smartdude1212 11-21-2010 12:55 PM

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

It's also a good idea in terms of producing the movie. After all, with two movies there are two budgets. ;)

awein999 11-21-2010 12:58 PM

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

I actually think it's better this way. The movie actually seemed to fit the book for once because it's spread out into 5 hours to cover all the plot. It moved at a pace that made sense. And it's better for their "finances" as well. Everyone wins :D (well not really lol)

duddychuck@yahoo.com 11-21-2010 02:00 PM

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

Now here's the question. Would you rather have had them combine the parts and have a 6 hour epic movie? or keep it with the 2 parts

smartdude1212 11-21-2010 02:00 PM

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

That's a question for my bladder.

awein999 11-21-2010 02:04 PM

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

I'd personally rather it be a 6 hour epicly long movie but I can see the problems posed with that. But I'm a hardcore Harry Potter fan, for me personally it would be awesome. In fact I'll probably watch part 1 and part 2 back to back like it's one movie in the future anyway.

duddychuck@yahoo.com 11-21-2010 02:14 PM

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

Well what they could do is have an intermission half way through, or after where part 1 would end

radxmad 11-21-2010 04:05 PM

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

Best one so far I suppose
But I still feel like although they got about 95% of the events in the book correct they're still missing the air of the book
It's not all dark and dreary and Harry breathing heavily in the book... there are actual funny bits which they just don't include in the movies.

loved the movie. this sounds lame but i love the utilization of a sort of opaque palette; i always thought this series was unusually well-shot and it's getting even better. was a little slow i guess but i still thought it was awesome.

coffee shop scene was the best

Great representation of the book. I actually started crying [spoiler:]when Dobby died, and I looked around and I'm pretty sure nobody else was crying, definitely not anybody from my group of friends. So, that was kinda embarrassing. But they made it so sad...

Yeah I noticed this too, especially with all the scenery shots.

I saw it at the midnight release, and I thought it was absolutely spectacular. Not only because that it was an actually good production, but that this series has been a big part of my life.

I grew up reading all those books. Even when I was too young to really understand them, my family would read them together. It's always been a big part of myself and my family. We read all the books, saw all the movies. We even went to all the books openings at Borders. Some of my best childhood memories are associated with that book, and watching this movie made me relive all of those memories.

good movie, I really enjoyed it, even though the drama to action ratio was "lol", I still loved it. I'm sure part 2 will be a lot better though.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

i was very pleased. except for going to see it in IMAX lmao what a rip off. $15 for them to make it a bit louder was totally not worth $15 but the movie was still pretty awesome.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

I'm sure that a very great percent of the people watching the movie have already read the books so spoilers shouldn't be that surprising or anything (unless you haven't read them in a while)

I thought that the movie was okay as a standalone but I thought some of the acting definitely could have been better with the trio during their Horcrux escapades (which makes up a lot of the movie so). This is really more of a stepping stone/setting-the-stage kind of movie for part 2 though imo. And I'm overall still kinda pissed that they made the movie into 2 parts. x(

I like that they divided the movie in 2 parts, that way they don't have to rush or skip mayor details of the book :) the only thing that i don't like about making it 2 parts is the wait between them.

Exactly what I don't like about it.

The last two movies kind of fell flat for me, so I wasn't really expecting much of this one either. But wow. I loved it, great production and they did well at capturing the book, maybe a few slips but all-in-all it was wonderful. I even got a bit teary when Dobby smurfed.

One thing that bugged me was the lack of chemistry between Ron and Hermione, and the overload of sexual tension between Harry and Hermione. Anyone else?

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

I am not convinced that they needed two movies to tell this story effectively. Seems more like a money-squeeze effort.

It's the same sort of logic they used for making the final episode of LOST extra-long. "We wanted to make sure nothing was rushed and that we told the final part of the story properly, blahblahblah." If this were true, then omfg, why so much filler? I admit, I loved the movie on the whole, but holy ****, was that ever slow. I was dead-bored halfway in.

Now I have to wait for nearly another year to see the final half. Arghhh.

I would have preferred that they released both movies at the same time in June instead of them teasing us with 1 movie 6 months before the next one is out. I guess I'll just have to bite my fingernails til then :/

Am I the ONLY one that didn't like this movie...? I adore Harry Potter, I've read all the books, seen all the movies. I just personally DIDN'T like it. I thought that they missed a lot, and changed so much stuff that it didn't do the book justice. I figured that since it was almost 2 and a half hours dedicated to only the first part, that it would be better. But it just wasn't to me.

There were some parts that were spot on with the books. There were others that I was completely pissed off about, because they were nothing like the books, or they weren't even there.

Also, I was kind of mad at my theatre of people. Someone was laughing during (what has already been said, so there's no point in making a spoiler of it) Dobby's death.

Honestly what do you expect? its not like they could copy the book exactly, and if they did it would be boring because people like you would know EXACTLY what will happen each and every scene. It throws in the element of surprise as well. And its been the same people whining about the same thing "ITS NOT EXACTLY FROM THE BOOK OH **** ITS LIKE THE WORST MOVIE EVER!!!!11!" so if you were a real Harry Potter fan just deal with it and love the movies no matter what....and sit outside the theater from 8 am on Thursday to 12:01 on Friday when they showed it like I did.

I think the movie was very well executed and was quite enjoyable. I'm actually really glad that they made the book into two movies. The last two movies seemed rushed, and I feel like even if they compressed the 7th book into a 3 hour movie, it would still be too fast paced and miss out on important details.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie Part 1

Harry Potter films never disappoint me. I'm sure they would if I read the books. But I don't have time to read them.
