SotW: TGWP, ALL PARTS!

File by Rebirth to display our new ability to convert BPM changes into FFR's engine.

Discuss.

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

Looks pretty good. A little cramped up at certain parts. Can't wait for speed mods (seems like that's my general sentiment for most of these SotW...). It's nice to see a song with bursts like that in FFR.

Why Arcade though? What game is it from?

The wacko colored arrows throw me off. Im so used to plain dull colors..haha.

Nice song though. Steps arent what im used to..but they seem to fit fine.

I am 100% sure that news post wasn't there when I posted.

That said, I didn't recognize ANY melodies. Maybe all the songs I'm familiar with are in the other ~14 minutes of the song.

Oh and by the way, I finally saw how orange the orange arrows are. They definitely need to be more orange and less red.

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

Part 1 is pretty much an opening to the real VG music. The part RIGHT after the part 1 ending is the Super Mario Bros part, then the Legend of Zelda part comes after that. And after that is Tetris.

EDIT: Here's a link to the full mp3

Oh and one more thing before I go to bed: is that jack combo-able? You know the one I'm talking about.

Yes, but it's not AAA'able.

I don't know if it was just the range of colors, but it looked super tacky and random. I don't know if I like it or not but random is definitely the word I'd use to describe it.

My initial opinion was the same as that of Iggy's, but after playing it 6 or 7 times the notes colors seem to fit it. I like the song, hope the rest of it gets stepped for FFR.

Nice work.... even if it is pretty much the same thing except a cut from your 17 minute one ;). Still good, I liked the parts that you changed for ffr. Are you going to try and get the other parts on here too?

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

Holiday color syndrome on FFR lol

Besides that and that one right hand jack that is un-AAA-able, it's a great file.
Fun to play, and it's the best SOtW in a LONG time.

I'll try to. I don't know if I'll get all of the song on here, but I'll get more than half of the whole thing.

Nice work gamepro, I really enjoyed it. Steps seem to fit with the melody and the mood of the song, that jack isn't all too hard, just tricky. Remember guys, theres one at 1109 or something, thats the killer.

And the colors, omg did acid.

Not for me, wierd. It's actually 1101. Its completely unexpected until you play over 5 times. I'll SDG this tommorow.

why put the stupid non-AAAable jack there :( it makes people sad...

the song and the steps were good... just that i hate the trill jacks at the 330+th combo. meh. well i suck at trills anyway.. but after the mini trills it was kinda playable, just need to PA. overall a fun file...

jimerax 11-27-2006 04:28 AM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

Nicely done, going pretty well with the music.

jacks like those are always stupid with any reason on FFR R1 though, almost glitchy.

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

Hey im no musician or step-artist, but are all thoose crazy crazy coloured steps needed?

The songs pretty doable bar the jacks nice job re-birth.

Rebirth0 11-27-2006 07:48 AM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

all of the steps are perfectly onbeat. That's how the music is. It has tons of 24ths, 32nds. 48ths, and 64th notes

I loved this one. Nice work!

Perfect syncing, great arrow colors, fun to play!

Tasselfoot 11-27-2006 08:41 AM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

shock: it is because you accessed the song while we were in testing of it... stupid noob. clear your cache and it should work fine. you also are missing the last 200 arrows or so.

also, the awful jack at 1101 is definately the worst... gotten to it twice now and have yet to combo it. i've combo'd the right jack a few times, and the ones at 330 are also a pain... *sigh*. I'll FC eventually too.

Hachi86 11-27-2006 08:55 AM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

Good job on syncing the colors with their repsective notes.

But i still dont understand the point of putting them in there without scroll speed changes...to me its just more to jumble/smash together so i cant read it. Im sure you are tired of hearing it, but FFR NEEDS SPEED MODS.

i actually kinda wish Rebirth had done all 17 minutes in 1 song....

woulda been a true epic marathon song for FFR.

Doug31 11-27-2006 12:24 PM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

I would have liked that too, but it would have been one insane song to FC, I'd think, even though I haven't heard the entire 17 minutes yet, I haven't even played the song, since I'm at school. I'm just thinking it would be hard, since it has a difficulty of 11, and someone in this thread said it's not AAAable, meaning it also has some mean jacks.

Rebirth0 11-27-2006 12:28 PM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

I have the whole song stepped and synced. But I honestly don't think anybody would like the 17 minute long song in one simfile. That's why I'm splitting it up.

Maybe we can have the 5 - 7 parts of the song, and maybe the full version as well? Maybe as a purchased song? I don't know.

The song is 17 minutes long and the full version has 5661 steps if I remember correctly. For FCing, that would give about 9,000,000 points. It should give about 100 credits too rofl. But in my opinion that is too boring of a file for the 17 minutes you spend playing it.

scottish 11-27-2006 12:40 PM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

Well not if it is put in as a non-secret/non-purchased (since purchased is full already, nothing can go there) song under Arcade, I wouldn't mind playing it, it will probably give people something to strive for in FFR.
Why don't you split it up into 4 sections, making them each longer?

9,000,000 is too many. FFR can only take up to 8.3 mil XD

17 minutes is just way too long for FFR...hell, I'm stepping a 6:30 or so long song and even that's pushing it IMO.

Rebirth0 11-27-2006 12:54 PM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

I'd say to let the body of FFR (the 1,000,000 members) decide on this. If they want a 17 minute long marathon song to play, I'd let them have it.

PsYcHoZeRoSk8eR 11-27-2006 01:01 PM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

17 minutes is probably way too long for ffr. Hell, Shash's 6:30 is probably too long. Whatever, I'd still play it, but thats just me. I think splitting it up would be best.

Tasselfoot 11-27-2006 01:01 PM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

FFR can handle up to 2^23-1 numbers... apparently each entry is 3 bytes, which would therefore make sense. kinda wish each was 4... would give us up to a few billion to work with.

so, we can handle up to 8,388,605, rounding down to the nearest 5.

divide that by 1550.... 5412 is the most notes we can have in a song. would still give only 25 credits too. AND, since if it had exactly that many arrows... AAAing with secret arrows would only give you at most 7/8 more points. lol. works out nicely that 8,388,600 is divisible by 1550.

Rebirth0 11-27-2006 01:03 PM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

With the hands in the original file I have 5661. If I took the hands out I could probably bring it down to 5550. I'll see what I can do.

Rebirth0 11-27-2006 01:17 PM

Re: SotW: TGWP, Part 1

Ok, I was wrong. After removing all of the hands, I still had 5630 arrows. There's one part in the song where all I have is 8th jumps for about 10 measures (yes it goes to the music). If I made all of those jumps, single arrows I'd end up with 5486 arrows total. I don't know how much more I can water it down.

Does it really have to be less than 5412 arrows? Could I keep it 5630 and just 200 of the arrows wouldn't count towards scoring?

I did pretty good for my first try throughout the song.. missed on the set of trills at the start and the purple jacks in the middle of the song. Rank 19! :)

Will there ever be the whole 17 minute song into one big marathon song?

We implied it from a blog by aspergian.

It essence, he mistook SM for FFR and posted about how he was all honored that his TGWP had gotten stepped for FFR and how everyone should go play it.

So...yeah, we sorta figured that that was as good as permission.

That's just me though.

rebirth, shash, and i will be discussing this.... to figure out how we'll release the rest of the song.

also, Rebirth... no, you can't leave it at 5600+ and just have the last 200 not count... it would basically mean that anyone who FCed would have the same score, regardless of PA. as anything over 5412 combo & perfs would all have the exact same score.

UNLESS we get synth to change the database entry from 3 bytes to 4.

Who cares? Do you really think a 17 minute purchased or secret song would have that steep of competition?

I mean, the credit limit would still be 25, even though the final score count would indicate much more than that. As far as I can see, the song would be played just for the fun of it, and if records would be messed up because of it, who cares.

Oh and by the way, I would be very upset if you guys water down jacks when they go perfectly to the music.

Leaving the jacks in would be completely insane, it would require way too much luck to fc, especially on FFR. IMO, why not seperate into 3 sections, this, a long 10 minute section, and then another 3:30 section for the ending or something..

The fun of the game for some of us is in getting accomplishments/highscores, not just the pure enjoyment of playing the game.
