Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Oh, look, the pack has been released. Cool, right? PART 1: MEGAUPLOAD Sendspace PART 2: MEGAUPLOAD Sendspace ENTIRE PACK: MEGAUPLOAD Discuss. Praise. Whine. Complain. Go! P.S. Thanks for actively not submitting. Can I really blame you though? ____________________________________________ People keep bugging me to do another one of these, and even though I'm not really stepping anymore, I figured what the hey. I'll have free time over the summer anyway. If you don't know what to step, here's something to get you started: http://www.mediafire.com/?wpav0muvcbt (Song cuts may be necessary) Guidelines ahoy! Submit metal/rock stuff. Anything, I don't care. This includes video game metal (S.S.H. for example). Try to step some music that's a bit more off the beaten path. I'm not saying to completely avoid stepping popular stuff, but please limit stepping stuff that there are already hundreds of files for. If you're looking for new music to step I have some decent sources for you. Feel free to ask me. DA RULZ (at least read this, k): - Heavy (Challenge if you like) is mandatory. All other charts are optional. Hands are okay, but I'd really like to keep files with only a spread chart to a limit. A lot of the people who are going to be playing this are going to be index players. It doesn't take long to remove hands and make a simfile a bit easier. Files with only a spread chart will be judged more strictly, though, still not nearly as strict as some packs. - Simple index files are completely okay. As long as they're polished, and don't have 16th streams when there are more prominent sounds to follow. Also, remember that jumpstreams can be your friend. - There is no limit on length, but songs must be at least 30 seconds long. - Cuts are okay. In fact, I recommend them on longer songs. The longer a song is, the more critical I'll be about it. Nobody wants 7 minutes of sixteenth streams. - Released files are perfectly okay. However, if you step something specifically for this I would highly encourage you NOT to release it. Files that have been featured in obscure packs are also okay. - Graphics are not necessary, but submitting a file with decent graphics will be a big help. Searching google, taking the first image you see, and slapping crappy text on it doesn't qualify as decent. If you can't make them there are plenty of people you can ask, or you can request them in the graphical forum. If I get too many files without graphics I'll be forcing people to get their own. - No dinner rolls (I think you know what I mean) except in Edit/Beginner. Basically you have to have at least one main chart without them. Send your files to doyoulikemetal@gmail.com Make sure to label the folder like this: (Your name) Name of simfile. Also, please put the name of the album the song is from and the year the album was released in the subtitle. Like so: Name of album (Year released) Judges: SulferDragon N.T.M. Still looking for willing judges. Not ones who will be lazy, worthless procrastinators. Graphical Artists: SulferDragon (kinda) PsYcHoZeRoSk8eR Quigly sp1nzoK We need your help!! There is no deadline... yet. Just submit ****. Don't expect me to give feedback on every file submitted to this. You'll get a yes or no probably unless I'm bored. Oh, and v2 files of songs that were already in the first pack are fine. You know, if the song actually deserves a v2. Also, I could really use some help with graphics in case anyone is interested. Seriously, it would help a lot. SERIOUSLY Any questions? Ask me or NTM. |

Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Oh cool, I guess this is good for submitting my file. I stepped the full version of Eradication a while ago, and it would go well in this pack. Heavy is easier and straightforward, with no hands and a few mines. It has some crossovers in the streams though, so if that is too much of an issue (you did say this pack has indexers in mind), I'll get rid of them. Oni is much more radically stepped and also harder than the one in FFR.
Going to go over it one more time before submitting. EDIT: I have some stepping experience, if you need help with judging I could lend a hand. EDIT2: Sent. |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Hahaha I remember this...
Also, If anyone wants to collab on something, I've started working on a song that fits this and I don't think I'm gonna finish it without help or something. EDIT: Also, I can help where / when needed. |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Put some real metal in there no wankercore stuff and it would be A+
|
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
hmm well i loooove metal so maybe i will give this a shot.
|
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Nice idea, I really think I should do something for this.
EDIT: Sent, I left the difficulty on one so you can adjust it yourself, that way the pack has an universal rating system :D (Btw what system are you using new one, see Dark Chancellor's Pack, or the old one... I'd rec. the new one) |

Hehe, I got plenty of good stuff that could make some nice charts. I'll dig through my music tomorrow and send a few.

Also, guys, my aim is not to make an index pack. Spread charts are ok. I'm just trying to encourage people to make more index friendly charts. They're not much effort to make, especially if you already have a spread chart. All you got to do is remove some steps and change the patterns if that's the case. I'll check out the files people submitted tomorrow. |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Alrighty, stepping some stuff for this. Linkin Park is cool with you, right?
|
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Please nothing off of Minutes to Midnight...
Please do some more hardcore stuff, the amount of stuff like Freedom Call was bugging me. Bands I'd like to see more of: Dimmu (could have some incredible stepcharts aka sympozium, etc.) As I Lay Dying (haven't seen any AILD charts lately) Killswitch (potential, possibly some easier stuff) Enter Shikari (not truly metal but some awesome potential) Unearth (guitar solos - Cutman, We Are Not Anonymous, Giles, etc.) All That Remains (someone please step This Calling/The Air That I Breathe/Chiron) Still Remains (White Walls, The Worst is Yet to Come) Job for a Cowboy (anything) Godspeed (maybe) Black Tide (Shockwave, etc.) (tribute to rockband) Abnormality - Visions Just a few suggestions :) |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
If someone wants metal add me on MSN blood_bowler@hotmail.com
over 300 bands on my HDD and probably 90% of that belongs to some metal genre / subgenre. |

I was also saying that if you needed judges, I could help with that... |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
I'm working on a Haste The Day file currently. Will definitely submit.
|
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
all the request I have seen so far have turned out to be wankercore.
Try to get some oldschool thrash in there that would give the pack some life I have plenty of music for anyone so just call me out if you want something to step. |

Quit yer bitchin' about the music and step something then.

Bynary, you can judge. Psycho, so can you. However, first I want to send you both three files and I want you to tell me what you think of them. Is there anyone else? I think four judges is perfect. Also, anyone else who could do graphics? Um, yeah, someone also sent me a pack of 16 of their files. That's definitely not okay. I'm not going to play all of those. Instead, why don't you send me a few of your files, the files you consider your best. Oh, and I actually did start playing through your files, but one of them had rolls and made my StepMania crash. That's when I quit. If you would read the rules (specifically the last one) you would see that I said no rolls. Oh, and let me emphasize again the fact that the files can be released. I don't care if they were uploaded three years ago. If you have anything good, or even if you know of a good file by someone else, submit 'em. Well, I don't mean to submit someone else's file and credit yourself for it. |

I don't care if you submit a song that says nothing but the f-word for thirteen and a half minutes... as long as it's metal.
|
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Bumparoo.
Okay, so I had Hentai post that link to my Unearth sim the other day (last post on page 1), but I realized that it has some sync issues. I would like some help with that from the judges if that's possible. Also, I'm submitting a second file right now from Parkway Drive. I had made a file for it awhile ago, but I just went over it again and changed a whole bunch of patterns, so it's been overhauled. There are no sync issues with this file as far as I know...if there are any, it's at the very end. Sulfer, I'll PM you the link to the new file shortly. EDIT: I have a banner for the Parkway Drive song, but I need a background. |

I would like to help be a judge.
|
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
**** yeah!!!! I've been waiting a while for this. And I'd also be interested in judging if a spot's still open. I know my old files which you're familiar with were all severely understepped and lacked PR. To assess my judging ability I’d prolly have to refer you to two of my recent files: Lawn Wake V and my Malicious Fingers chart from the Xoon Minipack (which I’ll prolly upload as a single since it’s been out for a lil while now).
Ummm… I have one file I can submit now and another that can be exclusive to the pack assuming it’s accepted. I’ll PM you the file a have in mind right now. *edit* Actually I'll just link you via e-mail since that's what you said in the OP. |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Dr Tran is helping me out with the sync on those two files, so I'll be updating those .sm files, Sulfer. Sorry for sending them out prematurely.

Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
xinpig, show me one or two of your files and I might let you judge. However, considering that I know N.T.M. has had a lot of experience with metal, I would rather he judge. Even so, it wouldn't hurt to have an extra judge.

And I think Kommi should take the last spot. I mean.... he's Kommi. =P Just know that the fun factor takes priority. Assuming the sync is accurate, some other aspects (like pr) can get neglected. Of course the degree of its application also depends on the song choice. Arbitrary placement used to combat monotony in lieu of technical accuracy is often acceptable. Nothing you don't already know though. ^_^ |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Whoa Sulfer that Serenade song you sent me was ****ing amazing. I am so stepping that (and probably screwing it up big time, but what can you do about that?)
EDIT: I've never stepped metal before though. This is going to be a blast. |

Kommi for collab with me? (I already have some songs...) |

He's banned at the moment, but who_cares973 stepped the Sound Of Truth from AILD. It was a good chart, and I think he said he was going to submit it. I stepped We Are Not Anonymous by Unearth. Already submitted it. Let me know if you want to play it. I'll send it to you. Also stepped Gimme A D from Parkway Drive. You may be familiar with them looking at that band list. Last, I'll take a look at some All That Remains. I have a few of their albums so I'll see if anything's worth stepping. |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Go ahead and submit files made by other people (but only if you think the file is worth our time). As long as it's made clear that it is their file and not yours. Nobody ever complained about me taking their files and throwing them into the first pack.

Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
if someone steped any of these bands the pack would be amazing haha
Rose funeral, Suicide silence, Born of Osiris , as blood runs black. Born of Osiris would make an amazing xmod file if someone is down |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
I've looked at Born of Osiris...too many BPM changes for me to do in SM alone. I'd love to step a song if someone could sync it in ddream. Another band with a similar music style is Veil of Maya. I've long thought that one of their tracks would make a sick chart.
It would be CMOD though. I don't know how to do XMOD files. |

Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Actually I'd rather send good songs for pro steppers to step, me and my nephew won't be able to make even these two into pro files.
Ghost Prototype is turning into boring start MA of 2 minutes with big difficulty step up into solo, so don't think we'll finish since it's going so lackluster. Salvation: Suicide is kind of fun but too overkill with jack section and solo, kind of copy paste jumpstreams at the mo also so I'm thinking scrap that. If you have stepping skills add me on MSN, I got some ideas for you if you want to step good metal. |

Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
(foilman) We Are Not Anonymous: Really fun file, man!! I liked the song choice too. A few things though: The 16th guitar streams in the intro seemed a little too arbitrary. Understanding that they repeat several times, some more variety deviating from technical accuracy could obviously be permitted, however I think patterns were changed prematurely. I could go into more detail if you’d like, but as I recall there’s a repeating pattern that initiates a different following guitar segment. This whole section changes over several measures until it repeats entirely. You seemed to change things every measure kinda neglecting pitch consistency. That’s not a really big deal though. Drum hits below measure 16 surprised me though considering the accuracy of other drum sections. Those aren’t all 24ths. It autta look something like this:
Same (or similar) when it repeats obviously. You should fix those things (the first can be overlooked if you prefer). Eradication: Song choice is very poor here so it’d really take an incredible file (and a good cut) to get accepted. The pause above measure 25 seemed outta place and caused you to miss a following note. And those 24th drum hits above measure 41 should be 32nds. Some pitch errors too. Didn’t have to look further. (N.T.M.) Every Time I die: My file obviously. I’d like to see what the other judges have to say though. Read me inside explaining measure 27. (Scylaax + N.T.M.) Malicious Fingers: Fun file from the Xoon Minipack. Intro caused some layering troubles though. Couldn’t review any more cuz I have work early tomorrow and gotta get to sleep. I should be able to do some more tomorrow though. Also if there are any small changes that should be made I can always do them myself if the author doesn’t mind. |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
im being so lazy right now =/
will submit something though |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
I finished my file. Whoa. Stepping the first solo took me an hour (and it was only 8 measures, to add insult to injury), so I just chickened out near the end and cut off the ending. Oh well. It's basically the same thing over + some guitar solos again.
Will send soon. |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Quote:
The guitar stream in the beginning is arbitrary. I'll admit it. My ear for pitch relevancy is very bad. I understand the concept, but my ears just suck at identifying it, so I'll take any suggestions from you on patterns, in fact, you can either add another post in this thread, or you can just PM me so we can have a private discussion (preferred). Once again, thanks for the feedback. EDIT: Looking at the screen cap, I see what you're talking about. I just missed that drum roll. I'll fix that up. I'd still like to hear from you about the beginning guitar rhythm though. EDIT2: Also caught one at M3# forgot the exact measure. |

Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
Oops, sorry! I was so busy cleaning yesterday I hardly touched my computer. Relatives are coming. Gotta make the house look decent.
Anyway, my reviews. Blazing Hate - Accepted with some tweaks - Interesting, varied, and fun patterns. Actually really well stepped considering the song. Also a bit understepped in my opinion. I'm not saying you need to add jumps, but there are definitely some more sounds you could follow at times. Eradication - Accepted with some tweaks - This was actually quite fun. In measures 131-138 I'm not sure if it's a good idea to switch from stepping the 12ths to stepping the 16ths and then back again so quickly. Kind of an awkward transition. On Heavy it's okay, I guess, but I personally think that you should layer the 12ths and 16ths together in the Challenge chart. I'll see what the other judges say. Also, did you mean to put that one hand near the beginning of Heavy. I'd like it removed. Every Time I Die - Accepted with some tweaks - Okay, this file is actually fantastic. I'm only not accepting it for one tiny flaw. Measure 35. There are a few steps which are completely offbeat. Fix them and resubmit. Gimme A D - Accepted with some tweaks - I found the patterns in the first minute or so to be very stale. Nothing was offbeat or anything. The BPM from measure 15-23 should be doubled. Overall, pretty good though. Malicious Fingers - Accepted... - Fun file, really. In the email you said this is from the Xoon pack? Can I really consider that an "obscure" pack? Well, I never had it, but I don't know how many other people did/do. Master Exploder - Accepted - Nothing technical, but it's fun. Are those hands at the end necessary? Roar - Accepted - I didn't like the cut, but that's about it. To the End of the World - Needs work - Great patterns. Again, like your other file, very well stepped considering the song. My main complaint this time is the freezes throughout the file seemed inconsistent. I also didn't like many of the transitions from the 16th streams to different patterns. We Are Not Anonymous - Accepted with some tweaks - Add a jump at measure 60, 81. I wouldn't mind to see some more PR in measure 5-12 and when it repeats later, but it isn't completely necessary. This is pretty good otherwise. It's not a 9 though. =/ When Legends Come to Life - Needs work - At measures 54-56, those are 12ths, again at 98-100 and 168-170. Too many missed sounds. Jumps seemed out of place or missing at times. Many jacks are unnecessary (but not all). The song is cool though. That batch of 16 files someone sent - See previous post on page 1. btw, I'm probably going to be the least critical of the judges. |
Re: Astronomic Metal Collection 2
I'm working on tweaking WANA with N.T.M., specifically the PR in those measures you mentioned, Sulfer. I'll also look at those jumps in M60 and M81. And what...is it an 8? I thought it was a 9, tbh.
I'll see what I can do about Gimme A D. I'll admit that the song choice wasn't A+ in this case, and it's hard to come up with different patterns when the music does the same **** over and over again. I'll see what N.T.M. says when he judges it and then I'll dive into editing it. |
