So I'm guessing your desktop resolution is 1280x800?

I don't see why this is needed. I mean, the profile size is 995px wide, and it will never be changed by screen size. :|
The only thing that could bother it is if the browser has a different font/size.

I liked the concept for the avatar, but it wasn't the most polished thing ever. (It was a CRT TV with static and my name appearing/disappearing, etc.)
I guess you'd like a color palette to work off of? I'd say white, black, red, in that order of prominence. Blurring can be used a lot to stay with the ghost theme. Actually, since my avatar has almost become my identity, I guess you could use it as a starting point. You could re-draw the avatar or something like that if it would make it fit better in the theme.
