Everyone in that episode was an enormous dick. Except for AJ, either because she's underused and underdeveloped or because she's the element of honesty (which manifests as being a terrible liar more than any sort of actual honesty) and knew she'd never be able to lie her way out of it.

Bummer about the 2 week break, but I'm pretty optimistic about the finale being worth it. I think it'd be unlikely that Hasbro go on such a media blitz if they didn't think this was the best shit they've done yet.

Yeah, pretty much. I felt it was kinda out of character for Fluttershy and Rarity, and the explanation of "you made it sound so good" didn't really cut it for me. Regardless, I still enjoyed the episode, if only for the funny moments (which there were an abundance of).

Just saw the wedding two-parter. Incredibly predictable, but the payoff was still great. That last song was amazing too. I can't wait for the community to start pumping out remixes.

It's cute, it's colorful, there are a lot of well-done fanmade things (art, videos, music, comics, crossovers, etc...), it's funny, it has variety,

I'm sure there probably are people in it only "for the lulz" too, and that's okay too. Despite what some may think, many fans even like the parodies (both of the show and of the fans).

There's a wide range of reasons people may like any of this and you'd probably get a different answer to just about every person you asked as to what got them interested. For me, it was references within indie games, all the DJ P0N-3 stuff (mostly electronica and dubstep with DJ P0N-3 "spinning" it), parody and silly youtube fanmade creations. Then what kept me was the excellent quality of fan art, fan music, fan comics. At some point I watched a couple episodes, then one more, then one more, ... pretty soon got through the first season. Kept up with the second.

IMO, the reason to stick with it (if it's your thing, and it may not be), is the quality of the fanmade stuff. I'm more a fan of that than the show itself. Others may like it more for other reasons.

The wedding finale was really annoyingly written plot-wise. Oh ok, so TS out of nowhere has a big bro who was the only one in her life when she was young and she loves him so, but wait also she loves her alicorn princess foalsitter (chronologically before cutie mark chronicles so idk why the royal interest in cutiemark-less Twi) who is Celestia's niece?..... as in, Luna's daughter? Even though Luna's spent the last 1k years on the moon? It feels slapped together to sell Cadence toys. Which is probably was, but the difference is the rest of the show covers it up by being high-quality entertainment anyway.

Awesome villain, songs, animation, jokes, but that contrived plot was dumb god damn

I must have missed the part where it said Cadence was Celestia's niece. I suppose that would make her Luna's daughter. I guess that doesn't really make sense given Luna's imprisonment. I suppose since Celestia and Luna seem to be immortal, or at least their lives are incredibly long, Cadence could have been around for a long time, but then why would she seem so much younger when she was foal-sitting? That's a pretty big hole, I guess.

Twilight not mentioning Shinging Armor or Cadence doesn't bother me as much. My sister doesn't come up in conversation very much among my friends, and my old babysitters certainly aren't a subject I think about these days.

It was explained by someone on the staff that "niece" didn't mean Luna's daughter in this case, rather some far-off relative or something. It wasn't really said in the show but I heard this somewhere else.

Wow, that's actually pretty true. The whole 2-part finale felt like a disney movie imo, in a good way. The villain song played a big part - it sounded somewhat like "Be Prepared" from The Lion King. I didn't really think about the disney princess aspect though, good find.
