Re: World of Warcraft

I sort of wish my guild would try Sarth 1 Drake up. I definitely think we have the heals, tanks, and dps for it, but no one is willing to coordinate it. Today, we took down Sarth 1 Drake and even the guy who's never been there before didn't get hit by the fire wave. We had 3 tanks there pretending to be dps as well.

Are you sure you're looking at the caster gloves and not the healer gloves?

most mail gloves have mp5 on em.

The t7 elemental gloves have mp5 but the rest of the set doesn't.

Re: World of Warcraft

Like I said, it's mainly the gloves, but if you look at a majority of the +SP Mail gear from Naxx, about 80% of it has MP5.

I made a list just so I'd know what to roll on during bosses, so here's what I'm talking about.

Naxx -10 drops

construct:

Patchwerk - dagger, shoulder (mp5), cape (mp5)
Grobbulus - neck, mace (mp5)
gluth - mace (mp5), ring (mp5), neck (mp5), waist (mp5), back (mp5)
thaddius - leg token

arachnid:

anub - feet (mp5), ring (mp5)
grand - legs (mp5)
maexx- neck (mp5), shield (need), trinket (need)

military:

instruct - wrist (mp5)
gothik - chest (mp5), neck
4 - chest token

plague:

noth - hands, ring
heigan - waist (mp5), ring (spr)
loath - shoulder token

boss:

sapphr - back, helm, ring (mp5)
kel - back (mp5), dagger (spr), mace, helm token

Re: World of Warcraft

Well, don't elemental shamans have **** for mana regain with spells? I know every other caster class has something to regen mana, so maybe this upped mp5 on everything is the fight back for it?

Re: World of Warcraft

Our skills are laughably cheap. Lightning bolt doesn't even cost 400 mana.

I can easily do a timed CoS or non-stop VH without drinking, ever.

Thunderstorm, while terrible during group combat since it pushes enemies away, is effective for downtime as it regens 8% of my mana, which is about 1,500 for me. I can only use it every 45 seconds, but it's irrelevant. And even with this, I don't ever have to use it, because I have yet another skill that makes that super-cheap Lightning Bolt even cheaper. Every time I crit (note: pretty damn often), Clearcasting enables (also enabling more Crit) and that makes the next two spells 40% cheaper. I start every fight with Lava Burst after Flame Shock, which is a guaranteed crit, so right away I'm making each successive Lightning Bolt only cost ~160 mana. Water Shield has a passive 100mp5 and every time I take a hit I regen 500 mana.

It's been a long, long time since I ended a non-boss fight without 90-100% mana. During a quick Nexus run I just did, I even ended every boss fight with 100% mana.

So to answer your question, no, I do not need mp5 as Elemental.

ps - outdpsed another mage in that run. She was trying to be cute to surpass me by blowing her summoned cooldowns right off the bat but it soon became clear she wasn't going to beat my 2,700dps, even with those cooldowns. And I don't have anything that boosts just my own damage like she does. All I have is something that improves crit chance and lowers mana cost by 20%. I've been stacking Haste for a while now since I realized I have no use for crit chance with a guaranteed-crit skill (though I do still have crit since EleSham gear is SP/Haste/Crit). Therefore, I rarely ever use this skill. I have nothing else that could potentially boost damage for a short period of time on myself.

I have the feeling we're going to get a nerf sooner or later.

Re: World of Warcraft

I have a cancelled account with an 80 mage on it. But before it was cancelled 2700 dps was not that hard to achieve if you are ffb spec and do the proper spell rotation. Blowing cds right away is the best way to go for mages because most of the major dps boosts only have a 1.5-2 min cd. During most boss fights that gives them plenty of time to come back before heroism is popped in most cases. Plus crit focus is way more important then haste in a build that is based on rng. So if your mage is poorly stacked for crit, even with all the raid buffs they will have a lower dps.

And if your mage is frost spec for raiding they are missing out on a good 800 dps easily. I had pretty good haste set (I think it was up around 460 haste 1300sp?) and ran frost. It doesn't compare to a proper ffb set and ffb rotation.

*Edit

The last time I played was in early January btw. So I'm not sure if any patches have come out since then to nerf any performance mages had.

Re: World of Warcraft

At least she was trying to do well in terms of DPS. I've seen mages who thought it would be okay to chill around 800 dps on fights that are DPS races.

Re: World of Warcraft

Oh I'm not saying she wasn't trying, she might just be ill informed on a proper raid spec, spell rotation, or simply just lack in gear. Plus I was more or less saying that she was actually doing a good thing by popping her cds right away; assuming that she hit invis right after ther MI wore off.

And if I ever saw a mage coasting at 800 dps at 80 content even without it being a dps race, I'd drop the bitch for someone who actually used their brain and helped the group/raid. I could spam scorch and do more then 800 dps.

Re: World of Warcraft

I had a rogue back when we were 70 who wouldn't roll on the king's defender (despite it being one of the best off handers for rogues) because "tanks would need it" despite everyone having it.

She also wouldn't get past 300-350 dps, I was out dpsing her as a tank.

now she does 800s, and in another guild that's ranked higher than us. ;_;

Re: World of Warcraft

I need to start raiding more. I just got LK and lvled my hunter to lvl 72. I'm totally in love with Northerend. Although I think it replaces your gear way too fast. I had some t3 gear and a Gyro Balanced Korium Destroyer Gun (engineering) that took me 3 months to get. It's all be replaced by greens >.>. Oh and I wanted to show ya my UI :D

I like this layout alot better than my old one:

Those buttons with the immolation trap graphic, aspect of the viper graphic, etc opened up into button menus with my traps, aspects, pet menu, and tacking menu. But I was very cluttered in the heat of battle as the tracking bar and aspect bar streched accross half the screen. (The reason I'm dancing is because this picture was taken right after I hit lvl 70 :D)

My average DPS is around 3800-4000.

I'm a mage.

Re: World of Warcraft

My DPS in 25mans as fury is about 3.8k on your average boss, 4.2k on Patches. Tanking I do about 1.8k

Re: World of Warcraft

That's where most of the good DPS seem to hover around. On aoe mobs, they can hit close to 6k as far as I've seen.

Re: World of Warcraft

It's hard as a melee class that can only hit 3 to 4 targets at once to do that high of DPS. On trash I push about what I do on Patches.

Re: World of Warcraft

At first, I didn't like Grid too much because I wasn't able to see everyone's full names, but I got used to it. It's a pretty awesome tool because it can tell me who is and isn't in range of a heal.

Although you can't see it, the shamans made it over 4k dps as well.

Cluttered interface, really. Might just be the small resolution though.

But hey, whatever works for you.

Really should consider tbag though.

Re: World of Warcraft

That doesn't look like an addon I want. I like how my bags are arranged and I know where everything is and everything I have. My backpack is usually empty with the exception of clothes, fishing rod, enchanting rod, and hearthstone as you can see. My second bag has my food and potions. My third bag has all my toys. My fourth bag is empty for the most part. My fifth bag has all my offspec gear which I never use and reagents. My bank first page is filled with fish and cloth. I have an enchanting bag in there for enchanting materials. I have four other bags for toys.

My UI isn't really that cluttered. Usually after boss battles or raids, I bring up Recount to look at the dps and healing meters to check what other priests use to heal. I seem to be the only one who fully utilizes all my spells. I hardly see any greater heals, renews, etc.; but that's beside the point. I don't even use the threat meters because I don't need it. Healers never get anywhere near pulling aggro off bosses. It's there for my other characters. It just happen to be up in both pictures and it's annoying that I have to turn it off pretty often. When I'm actually in a boss fight, the only thing up is Grid. I don't have a lot of screen space to spend, so some of the fancier mods are usually out of the question.
