Don't be too sad about losing in the tournament. I still <3 you. ;)

@ Sarah: Where have you been? I remember seeing you around here a lot back when I first started playing FFR. Then you just dissapeared.

Nice token get, SK8R. :o

Sucks about the tourney dude. But hey, at least you actually got to participate. I thought signups for the tourney were a week after they started ad my keyboard broke at the end of round 1. :-|

Third page? Unacceptable.

Also it figures at 4:55 in the morning my connection would work like a dream. I tried sending the above ^ ^ ^ message like yesterday when I had finally managed to get to this page but it lagged out so I was like, "**** this **** kbye."

Also also I've been whoring up StepMania, and it's been practically forcing skill jumps on me - mainly in MA. Basically I was getting tired of C725 when I used to play at C800, so I just shot it up to C1000 for like 20 songs and suddenly C800 didn't seem so fast.. Then I played around with J6 for a while, but the first song I was getting all marvs in the beginning so I was like, "Bs, this ain't J6" so I failed out and checked and I had changed it. I played with that for quite a few songs - turns out I was just lucky, as just about every other song I played I lost around 5-10m points on my personal record - then switched back and I saw a substantial improvement in my MA. So yeah both methods I'd definitely recommend.

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

I see you have discovered the joys of Stepmania. :D With skill boosts like that, you could become a future rival (maybe even now since my skill has dropped from inactivity due to a broken keyboard WHICH IS NOW REPLACED!).

I haven't touched my judge settings in ages since my MA has always been real good for a one hander, but since it's now crap I might give it a shot.

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Uh speaking of skill boosts I got my first 9 foot AAA this morning. Dream of Scarlet, but still it was my first attempt. And then I got robbed on TGWP 4, with a ****in' blackflag =/
But yeah 4 hours of whoring SM as mentioned above helped immensely.
If it worked for me, it'll work for you, too!

EDIT: How's the keyboard doin' for ya?

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Ouch @ TGWP Part 4 BF. :/

The keyboard seems pretty good so far - it's real hard to adjust to though since the keys are even flatter and slightly smaller than my old keyboard. It's beautiful for sliding but I can't seem to coordinate myself very well. Then again, I only played like 20 games last night so I'll see how much better it gets.

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Flat = good
Small, not so much. I remember playing on one of my friend's laptops, and there's no way you can be consistent using arrow keys that tiny.
Hopefully it's nothing like that.

Bynary Fission 08-16-2009 07:47 PM

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Actually my consistency is amazing with flat keys - enough to shock you, really.

My MA is still playing catchup but overall my skill level is very close to what it was. By tomorrow I'll be back on beast mode.

The only drawback to this keyboard is that it's ****ing impossible to hit any up-down jumps (and I did learn to hit them solely with my middle finger) which has resulted in tons of random misses, especially fast jump sections that I used to be really good at. :(

Did I do it right?

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

That's a skill I don't know if I'll ever learn.. Hitting up/down doubles with one finger. I suppose when I hit another gap in skill I'll give it a try, for extreme conservation in movement. Just doesn't seem practical to me right now.

Bynary Fission 08-16-2009 08:52 PM

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Coming from somebody who had done that since the very beginning, I can personally tell you that switching is extremely difficult. However, I can also tell you is it absolutely worth every second of effort put into doing so. My skill level and scores received a universal and substantial boost once I had fully learned to do so, and you'd do well to learn it yourself.

Clarinet, what token are you posting that SS for?

the v2 token

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Yeah. I'll add it in.

vantilburg 08-16-2009 09:03 PM

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Ok well if I were to try it, do you have any suggestions? Like the only way I can consider doing it would be to hit both with the ball of my finger (feels super awkward) or by laying my finger on both keys (less awkward, more doable but also probably takes longer to set up)
Although I can see this having a very positive effect for pa'ing patterns such as:
< . . >
. V ^ .
< . . >
. V ^ .
< . . >

Always called them 'double trills' but I don't think I've seen a specific term for them.

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Lay your finger flat on both keys. It's not as slow as you think - I could easily AAA 135 bpm 16th jump sections with it and FC 140+ doing it the way you described.

vantilburg 08-16-2009 09:09 PM

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Alright it just feels weird considering I'm more of a tapper than a slider (even though past 200 BPM there's probably very little difference), I have to bring myself to flatten my hand to do that.

Bynary Fission 08-16-2009 09:11 PM

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

Intentionally flatten your hand? I had presumed your hand was in that position naturally. Do you keep it arched over the keys or something?

~HentaiXXX~ 08-16-2009 09:13 PM

Re: FFR's Top One Handers

I still have to work on the up/down jump hit with one finger. >__>

Too lazy. D=

Yeah actually.
I play on a really small desktop (not my computer) so there isn't much room otherwise.
