Just as a reminder that there are a total of 5 files to be played and you have a week to get the best score you can on each. Some of these files may be a too hard for some people- just give them your best effort. You may skip the harder songs if you wish, though please note that this may result in a lack of placement if too few are played, we lack sufficient information between qualifiers performance & overall scoring, or we have evidence of intentional sandbagging. You can find the files on the Tournament Dashboard here on the website.
Qualifiers have finished and scheduling for round 1 is now underway. Please check the following thread for brackets, song pools, and scheduling requirements!
Hi, everyone!
After a long (looooooooong) tournament, it is my pleasure to announce O.W.L. 2 as officially concluded. Thank you all so much for participating!
Firstly, to not go on about it too much: I'm very sorry for how long the tournament took. A set of really unfortunate circumstances ended up making the tournament a bit too hard for us to run and then it hit a pretty hard snag. Players ended up stranded for multiple weeks without a match, some dropped out over shifting priorities and availabilities; it's unfortunate that it ended up that way. It also affected our ability to do a Grand Finals stream, which Velo made a spec client for, because we needed to wrap up the tournament sooner than later and it sucks that we ended up not having that too. In the end, I can only apologize for those who couldn't continue to participate in the tournament and be very thankful for those who played to the end.
As part of this apology, we will be distributing:
• 10,000 Credits for every player who had a match due by February 17
• A participation badge for every player who made bracket, played at least one match*, and was not disqualified**; top 3 badges instead for high-placing players
*Playing at least one match does not include winning by default.
**Losing by default / no-showing does not constitute disqualification, nor does forfeiting or abandoning the tournament (considered forfeiting all future matches)
In addition to those above, all tournament prizes have been distributed to our top 8 participants. Check your Transfer Log and Token Shop to see if you've received everything correctly and notify us if something's up!
------------------------------------
I'm also very glad for everyone who told me that they had fun playing in the tournament. It made me very motivated that it could be a positive experience despite the undesired delays, and that it could be remembered for more than just that. Thanks a lot, really. ^^
We also hope that you enjoyed the picking system! We decided very early not to do tiebreakers, and to then deviate from traditional osu!-style alternate picking to ensure a fair experience. Elite Ninja came up with the picking system we're using now (shoutouts!) and it seems that everyone understood it quite well despite our fears that it would be more complex. It was great to see it working without a hitch, but if you have any thoughts about it, let us know!
Hopefully the pools were good too - we put a lot of work into making sure the picks were varied, interesting and balanced, and that they could set an example for what a traditional pool in FFR can look like. They were honestly pretty fun to make (despite how much inevitable stress they represent LOL), and somehow both harder and easier to construct than I initially imagined; I was personally quite satisfied with them, and I hope our participants were too c:
And finally, a last shoutout to our Top 3 from each Bracket!
