Nono, you see, what I was doing was putting a note whenever there's any sound in the song, then putting jumps to all the stronger ones. And this is apparantly not the right way?

Actually I only ever got stream with jumps in it, but apparantly you're only allowed to make sounds jumps when there's something else sounding at the same time so I dunno

Point of layering: doubles aren't viewed as doubles, but rather just coincidental simultaneous arrows. You step an instrument, step another one, etc. Make sure that there's a different arrow for each sound, including different instruments playing a note at the same time. Thus, you are forming layers. This is where triples and quads come in.

Then you can mix it up with what you talked about and other techniques so it's not just a sloppy mess of arrows that's hard to understand because of the insane difficulty. Awesome.
