Hammy (Not the squirrel)

So, Syhto and I buried our hamster, Hammy tonight.

He got sick yesterday, was coughing and sneezing, so we took care of him as well as we could then took him to the vet today. They gave him antibiotics and water, we took him home, and he seemed to be getting better.

Then he passed away while he was lying on my chest as I rubbed him, trying to massage him and make him comfortable.

I know it seems stupid, but I loved that little hamster, we joked around about how he was our "fur baby" to other people, and he was the happiest little dude I've ever seen.

RIP Hammy.

We'd been using a hamster forum to ask for help, and I recorded that maybe 5 minutes before he died. He had perked up and had been crawling around on syhto, and we both thought he was getting better, I looked away and then looked back down at him and he was just staring at me and not breathing.

Then we commenced the howling, rolling around on the floor, and hyperventilating.

So now I'm pouring out my grief by telling you guys about it, because I know you guys don't really fucking care, but I do, so here's to Hammy. We buried him out in a lightning storm because he was fucking metal and he would have wanted to go out that way. We packed his box with his little igloo that he loved, his favorite food and treats, her polar bear hat, and a chew stick.

This is something a bit close to me since I have a pet cat that is getting older in years and I know I would be devistated to let her go. So even a hamster or anything would make anyone sad. You have my condolences.

I commend you for keeping a pet until it died because I have had many, many pets in my life, and too many of them had not died from what you might call "natural causes." You've done well; trying all you can, and it's time for him to go home. There are happy moments and then sad moments. That's just life....Goes really to reflect upon our own lives and how we shouldn't take them for granted. Take care Senip/Syhto.

Aw RIP Hammy my heart goes out to y'all. It's good that you cherished his stay with you as you did, and gave him the love that you did. I definitely know how it feels to lose a fine furry companion. It's great that you had the opportunity to give him the life that you did and to share your affection with him. ~

Same here with the cat, and I've lost a guinea pig before as well. He doesn't even want to jump up on some beds anymore, since he's 14.

But to have him pass away while you were petting him, I don't think any language has words to describe what happened to you at that moment. So I'll try emoticons instead.
