Default Adventure-Based Role-Playing Game! (V2)

Awhile ago, Drizzle made an RPG game here on the forums that attracted a lot of attention, but due to her getting an esteemed amount of work from school and not being able to keep up with updates, she had to cancel the RPG until she could find some free time for it, and until then, Pretty much the entire game died out. It worked out really well for the first couple of weeks that we played it, and quite some people signed up for it, and now Drizzle wondered if anyone else was willing to pick up the reigns for the game, so I'm stepping in.

Rules and Game Manual:
1. You may only have one character at a time.
2. If your character dies, then you stay dead and must create a new character.
3. In addition, if your character dies, all your items, weapons, armor, rings, experience level, etc. will be lost and you will have to start over completely with a new character.
4. All players start in the same place and *must* choose their class at the beginning of the game. You are not allowed to change your class with that same character. However, if your character dies, then you are welcome to choose another class for your new character.
5. You will only learn about a region and its effects once you enter that region.
6. You may have unlimited rings and the bonuses will all be added to your character (unless you die and they disappear).
7. Once a ring is picked up, it will disappear from that area and the player will own it until he or she dies.
8. If a player dies (or he or she quits the game), then all of his or her rings will be redistributed to different parts of the map again.
9. More dangerous regions will have better rings, a more expensive but better quality selection of items (plus some unique items found only in a specific shop in the country of Letters), and more powerful monsters.
10. Monsters will ONLY appear for fighting classes (e.g. archers, warriors, magicians, and assassins).
11. The classes are fire mages and water mages (who fight with magic only and learn magic mostly from experience), archers (who fight with bows and arrows and must buy both arrows and bows from shops), warriors (who fight with swords and must buy swords from shops), assassins (who attack other players as well as monsters and need to buy daggers from shops), merchants (who don't ever encounter monsters and are able to bargain with other players to make a profit), and politicians (who don't ever run into monsters and try to influence the government of the towns of different regions to change something about a town).
12. You start out with 100 sharps and 10 hearts for your character.
13. Your hearts are refilled every time you visit a town of any region.
14. For fighting classes only, a monster will have a 50% chance of appearing once per day.
15. The game Adventure has four seasons (summer, spring, autumn, and winter), and each season lasts one week in real life. Summer and winter are dangerous and you will lose one heart a day during these seasons (unless you are in a safezone e.g. a town).
16. Once we start this game, if you don't post the direction you're moving after I post the results of that day, then you will stay in the same place without anything happening, and you will not encounter any monsters.
17. Monsters and regional effects do not apply while a player is in a town.
18. Once you're in a town, until you leave the town, you are inside a safezone, and you may continue to stay inside the town for as long as you would like (in case you're taking a break from the game for awhile).
19. Only assassins are allowed to attack other players. Also, another player may not attack an assassin unless the assassin attacks first.
20. Anyone may join this game at any time in the future, even awhile after the game starts.
21. All percentages will be handled objectively by me using http://www.random.org/ for the percentages.
22. There are some secrets you will have to find out for yourself. ^.^
23. Everyone has an unlimited inventory with an endless backpack that always stays the same size. ^.^ Everyone can carry as many items as they receive, so there's no limit.
24. Red potions heal 5 hearts, and each potion can only be used once. In addition, you *must* request to use a potion before or after a battle. The character will not automatically drink the potion during battle even if his or her hearts are low, so please remember to drink a potion when you're moderately low on health.

Sign-ups start right away!

If you have any questions or need any clarification, please don't hesitate to ask, and I will be happy to answer your questions and add them to the original post (this post).

The day will end at 8:00 p.m. server time every day, and if you don't state a direction to move or any other choices like drinking a red potion, the new day will still start at the aforementioned time.

Concerning monsters: You have a 50% chance of encountering a monster (only if you're a fighting class), and you have a 75% chance of your attack connecting with the monster. The monster will deal one heart of damage every time you hit a monster or try to hit a monster until it dies.

Concerning levels and damage: You start at level 1, and you gain a level whenever you defeat the number of monsters equal to your level. For example, you only need to defeat one monster at level 1 to reach level 2, and you need to defeat five monsters at level 5 to reach level 6.

Concerning sharps: You may spend your sharps at towns, and you start out with 100 sharps. You generally receive sharps by killing monsters, and you receive as many sharps as the hearts of the monster, which get higher as the regions are more dangerous.

Note: Awhile ago, I said that anyone could teleport at any time back to the last visited town, but I changed my mind because in my opinion the game would be a lot less interesting that way. However, the bazaar owner now sells town scrolls to Evergreens, which enable you to teleport back to Evergreens at any time! In addition, each scroll disappears after one use, so you may want to be careful when using them. It costs 30 sharps, and anyone is welcome to buy them.

Concerning classes:

For the fighting classes: Water Mages attack with water-based magic and encounter monsters, Fire Mages attack with fire-based magic and also encounter monsters, warriors attack with a sword and a shield or two swords (depending on whether you would like defense or extra attack) and also encounter monsters, archers attack with a bow and a limited number of arrows which you have to purchase to buy more of (but they give extra attack) and also encounter monsters, and assassins attack with two daggers which give a little more attack damage than normal, can encounter monsters, and may attack other players when in the same area on the map. In addition, you may not run away from monsters if you are a fighting class.

For the non-fighting classes: merchants may buy special items in towns that other classes cannot, and may sell anything they wish to other players including arrows, red potions, swords, magical rings found throughout the country, and those special items only merchants can buy such as food (which heal more hearts than a red potion), and blue potions (which will revive the user if he or she dies and heal up to five hearts, and politicians may go to different towns and try to persuade a town to make certain changes. In addition, assassins may not attack players who are either merchants or politicians.

Went over all the info that was in this thread, revised & updated the spreadsheet with info on stuff. The latest outcomes that Drizzle did not report on will not be taking effect because everyone is being recalled to the city, in-case people naturally forgot where they were in the game.

Also, I have made up an extreme amount of land as well, but will continue making most of it up as we continue through this adventure.

I will be updating this game not on a daily or timed basis, it will be updated whenever I have free time, and since I believe I have the most free time in this forum right now, it will be me. (That means it's updated like 50 times per day, but other days might get no updates. I'm usually on here 24 hours a day.)

And then they opened their eyes.

Everyone was back in the town square of Evergreens, back where they were when they first started their journey. Everyone appeared to be dazed and confused, some more than others. Xyr stumbled over his robes in all the confusion as he hit the ground, quite wounded.

All of the warriors more or less used their weapons to keep themselves standing up, all except for Lucien, who sat down.

What exactly had just happened? Were they dreaming? Knocked out? No, it was way too sudden for any of that to be true, and it felt like someone was out of place, missing, for that matter, but it was impossible to piece it together in the current state.

Xiz was passed out, leaning up against his cow. He looks up in a haze to see where he is. "Am I just drunk, or does that sign say Tavern?". Alloyus looks over to where Xiz is pointing to discover that it says "New Seed City Tavern", yet, it looks exactly like the Town of Evergreens tavern.

People may now decide paths, locations they wish to visit, etc.,

Oh, and Xiz fell off a Tavern roof. Pretty much all you missed.

I should also mention that I've added also a couple of surprises during the gameplay as well as some incentives to continue playing such as free art, credits, and maybe tokens in the future if allowed.

edit: Xiz found a Bonus Token so I should probably explain it: There's a city at the very end of the game that will exchange Bonus Tokens for prizes. The higher the number on the token, the better the prize. You can choose a Credit option (FFR Credits), or an Item option (which will be only usable by yourself). These things can only be found when you roll a perfect 100, so keep them safe. <3

After falling off the roof, Xiz decides that he hasn't had enough fun yet on top of the roof, and luckily enough, he wasn't shoved away yet from the Tavern because the man who pelted him with rocks while he was on top of the roof never alerted the people inside, probably because he would have gotten in trouble too. Alas, Xiz tries to re-gain himself from his fall and tries to find the proper areas to make it back up to the roof of the Tavern. The practice the first time surely would help him getting up the second time. (+10 to success roll)



Just like before, Xiz is able to remember the locations of the bricks on the sides of the Tavern that are sticking out, and is able to climb his way back to the top of the Tavern again. The failure of not being able to stay on top of the roof gave him extra determination to make it up a second time, and it worked. Xiz is now on top of the Tavern.

"I know you, you're that town drunk that came in months ago demanding beer without pants!" The barkeeper exclaimed. "That's right, and I want some vodka this time!" Xiz said in a proud manner, so proud it echoed throughout the Tavern, and no one wanted to move, almost as if it were a stickup. "I can see you still don't have your pants, I can-" at that very moment, a rather large barrel full of fermented expensive vodka rolled down a shelf that fell apart and smacked the barkeeper in the head. The barkeeper is knocked out cold, and it doesn't appear that he will be serving drinks anytime soon. Xiz picks up the giant barrel full of expensive vodka with incredible strength and loads it on the cow's back. {Barrel of Expensive Vodka} added to Xiz's inventory.


Going to sleep for the night guys. Will hopefully resume tomorrow in the morning <3

You strike me as being too unintelligent to make any game that isn't just autist-bait, though.
I hope to be wrong, so could you write up a post describing more about the game you intend to do?

The game is starting again in the exact same fashion that Drizzle started her game. People are allowed to join and leave at will, and interact with others in the country of letters.

For the sake of knowing where everyone is (because it wasn't recorded very well in the original post where everyone was located on the map, and there were commands inputted afterwards that never took effect,) everyone that had an active character was moved back to the starting town. It's virtually the same town, with all the same stuff, but has had its name changed to "New Seed City".

There is a progression system placed in the game, but revealing it would remove some of the exploration of the game, but I can assure you there is one. There is a mission board in each city or town that offers various odd jobs for all varieties if you want to progress in that direction entirely, but part of the game I feel is still on the end of surprise. If people travel far enough from a city they will find hidden objectives as well. If someone makes it to the ending area of the game, they can either choose to end the game -probably causing hell for others in the process- or delay the inevitable for a week. Afterwards, a (V3) of the thread will open, with a new map, city, characters, storyline, etc, and this one will close.

For the sake of being an RPG, and knowing on Drizzle's behalf that she used a random 1d100 to do most of the scenarios, I'll be following the same route that she started. I will be allowing people to see what the actual rolls for it are at the time that they need to be rolled, although, now that I think of it. I should probably put all the rolls in spoilers inside spoilers so that the people that don't want to see what was rolled won't see it unless they want to.

I have also made it so that people can move at their pace. I'll try and update it as much as possible, and most assuredly that it will exceed the amount of things you can do in a single day compared to what you used to be able to do in a single thread.

tl;dr I intend to finish this game, and give it a proper ending because a lot of people liked it, including myself. I don't know how long it will take, so I sped up the amount of turns you can take in a day. People were moved back to the city to avoid confusion from stuff they wanted last year.

and I'm sorry I'm autistic. If you want to run it, that's fine by me. I don't mind, seriously.

I'm still willing to run this, but I think most people have decided more or less to move on at the same time drizzle was unable to consistently update it. Still willing to update it though, just let me know.

And if I don't update it, send me a PM or a message on skype and I will update it as soon as I get in touch with a computer, guaranteed.
