Because yours is basically the same as mine aside from having more rolls and less jacks lol
Also thanks for feedback guis, at the very least I'm not getting any unexpected feedback (Quatre Mains good but not replayable, Squall gud, Karera Long Japanese Song Title But Probably Not As Long As This dragged on) |

Re: Untitled Stepmania Pack RELEASED
Even though I actually played this entire pack on stream, I'll still give my quick personal thoughts for anyone who wasn't there to watch.
- A Beautiful Degeneracy: certainly not a bad file, but the breaking point for replayability for me was the polyrhythmic combinations inside of streams; at that speed, you might as well be doing 32nd bursts (which is quite unreasonable if they're not rolly). Outside of that, no real complaints. - A Journey Into Sound: well charted. Song is quite mellow, but the presentation of really precise rhythms gives this a lot of playability for MA players. Chart has a solid structure and is playable overall. - Acid Wolfpack: alright file. Some of the accentuation really saved it for me, otherwise this would have been very boring. - Anger of YuYu: my own file. Honestly, I regret sending this in. The mini-freeze usage in the last third of the song blows, and the song is pretty uninteresting. I'm hoping some day I can finish this and have a decent file out there. Whatever. - Burgers Out: simple, to the point, and fun. Accenting patterns were quite tasteful, too. Not much to say about it, just another well done chart. - Catkin and Teasel: this file rocks. Quite technical in terms of patterns, sometimes so much so that you'll be blowing your score to pieces despite easy patterns. The second half of the file is where the chart really gets nice and meaty in terms of density -- thankfully, the trip to get there doesn't feel long at all. - Cock-Ver10: contender for favorite file in the pack. Everything about this is correct -- the patterns are fluent where they need to be, and rigid where they need to be. Jack accentuation was very tasteful, and intense (rightfully so with the song). There were also some really intelligent subtleties in the file, like the usage of mines immediately after steps following short sampling to emulate a staccato, or repetition in patterning for drum sampling alternation. Absolutely fantastic. - Cold Heart: substantially better than Kneegrow's chart, which didn't quite age well. Patterning is brutally difficult, but the file indicates right out of the gates that it intends on grabbing your attention with complicated patterns. While the structure is holistically similar to the ODI2 version, scoring on this chart is quite literally, 10 times harder (I say this as someone who has a 7p SDP on the older version, and 70s on this). Plays like a typical, well-structured Terminal11 file, and even takes some (imo) necessary risks to playability by adding things like 24th note minijacks (note: at 161.5 BPM) and 48th note scales/sweeps. Really fun; as a high-level player, I'll definitely be returning to this version. - c-r-a-c-k-ER: not my kind of file. I've never been a real fan to charts that utilize an almost ad-libbing charting style, but the song calls for it. It's not exactly easy to chart this with approximated rhythms, and attempting to dumb the rhythms down likely ruins the chart altogether. For me, this is just an inherent flaw in the choice of the song itself, and even then, that's just my subjective opinion. Structurally, the file is fine and actually has a few tasteful points of heavier layering that are suitable -- it's just not for me. - Creep: really fun. Patterning gets progressively tougher as the file goes on (to me, anyway), yet manages to be smooth enough to be reasonably playable for less adept players while still being a challenge to score on for more seasoned players. My only personal issue with this file is the lack of time signature representation -- then again, keeping it the same BPM makes it accessible to x-mod players too (few and far between, but still), so I suppose that's a plus. - Fuse Gymnast: Overall, the chart plays nicely. Layering fits well, and there's really good jack placement to accommodate for repeating notes in the chip melody. Colored accenting works well in this file too, and the occasional freeze usage just looks nice visually. However, the last big stream in the file is largely overstepped and should not be 32nds at all -- I don't mind blasting through it, but I know that it is incorrect by a quite a bit (as it is an extended 32nd stream that should be 24ths...) - Happy Meal: higher difficulty was interesting for this file. Quite colorful chart to match the indiscriminate sampling, and I was personally fond of the mine usage in the file too. My qualm with the file is that the patterning in the chart itself was pretty harsh in a number of areas. Perhaps the higher level difficulty was more intended to be over the top compared to the lower one, which I've yet to play. - He's a Mental Giant: nothing notable about this. Straight-forward and nothing more. - Insane Techniques: while this file didn't have anything super notable within the chart itself, one of the things that I was fond of was actually the restraint used when charting. Mines were tastefully used to accent really soft changes in the synthesized melody or used to oppose steps in really heavy accents. What would have been an otherwise standard/sub-standard chart was really lit up by great mine usage. - Karera Futari Wa Ai To Kanki No Gukasai Sekai No Naka O Aruite Aru: this fucking song title is almost the length of a review on one of the files, what the shit -- anyway, I wasn't fond of the song myself, but the chart was quite nice. I was especially happy with the outcome given the stepartist (rCaliberGX), who seems to be showing some pretty decent improvement in charting (and this can moreso be seen in his other file in this pack). The file has some pretty good layering throughout, and the accenting is done well overall. I felt like it was a bit questionable/convoluted near the end, but that could simply be attributed to different charting styles. One thing I will say is that, due to the low BPM of the song and the overall low pace, this file dragged to me. It would have done a lot better with a cut. - Minus One: Fun little dubstep file. I noticed that it did have a few x-mod tricks, but there wasn't much to really see in that regard. In addition to it, there was a pretty mean trick that was not quite intuitive on a x-mod play, haha. Chart plays really well, and the mine usage is to my liking because I'm definitely a dodgeball fanboy. To others, it might be a little over-aggressive. As expected, chart was structured well and a bit challenging as well. - Moe Moe Kyunstep: I'm going to open StepMania's source code and try to add rates past 2.0 just to play this song. I'm fairly certain this is one of the rare occasions where I actually regretted playing a file. I stuck through the whole thing at 1.0 rate, but this simfile is intolerable to play because the chart is just SO boring. Absolutely dismal at near 5 minutes long. Had this been cut somehow, maybe it would be a bit better. Easily my least favorite file in the pack. - Neonlights: I don't know how the hell you did it, Alex -- there's no way this file should have been as good as it is given the song. The file starts really normal and tame, but the accents into and out of phrases really highlight this file. Then, the file calms down again and leaves you waiting for more, and boom - it delivers with really nicely placed patterns/jack placement. The layering in the file just feels right in the chorus, and the layering is just heavy enough to make the switching up between the ends of phrases feel like heavy accenting as opposed to overlayering. Really nice work, one of my favorite files in th-is pack for sure. - odd22: fucking hell this file is brutal. There are unfortunately quite a few technical errors in this file that actually were noticeable to me on a playthrough, where it felt like the sampling was slower than what was represented in the chart. Sure enough, a quick check proved to me that I was right on a number of occasions; it actually has to do with the BPM changing and trying to accent previous rhythms through BPM change adjustments. Despite being noticeable to me on a playthrough, I don't feel like this detriments the file too much -- it does one very clear purpose regardless of these difficult to spot errors: it serves as an insanely difficult to play file for the best of the best. - Oriens: straight-forward file. I am conflicted with the accenting of the flutes; they are well executed as trills and being kept as 16ths keeps playability/fun-factor high (no one likes arbitrary rhythms for difficult MA when the song probably doesn't call for it as a whole). Nothing too much to note as "great", but certainly nothing to note as "bad" either. - Poquito Mas: a rare sight when someone uses single note + freezes for cymbal crashes; with just one playthrough, that stook out to me as creative and unique, and I always appreciate those kinds of subtleties. This file is really well conceived; pattern repetition in some places makes the chart flow great with the song, and all of the rhythms are spot on in a reasonably complex percussion/synth structure. The 48th trills were a nice touch -- some might argue that they augment the difficulty a bit, but I don't think they do. Also, mine usage for build up always works well in your charts. You have a knack for it. - Printer Jam: I'm likely going to be the standout for this song, but I -really- did not like this chart. Patterning was really rigid right out of the gate when the chart/song hadn't even presented itself, which really bothers me for the sake or progression. When the percussion actually kicks in, there were some downright ridiculous pattern choices in bursts for no seemingly good reason. Rhythms could have been approximated in many instances rather than taking an overly colorful route; this chart is brutally hard to score on, and listening to the song, there's really nothing complex about it, so the chart really could have been a bit more laid back. Whoever was responsible for the chart between 101s and 142s: thank you for a well executed section. (more to come maybe tomorrow) Last edited by TC_Halogen; 07-11-2014 at 11:27 PM.. |

Re: Untitled Stepmania Pack RELEASED
Well shit, after slowing it down, there's quite a bit less than I thought. The really noticeable ones are still there though, things like these: 12.109, 19.599, 26.882, 33.888 (sounds like 12ths to me). I guess a lot of it just goes down to charting really hard to hear samples, haha
oh and those 32nd bursts at 104.915 and 111.054, 117.376 and 118.593, and a bit less incorrect - 118.878, and 123.673, etc Last edited by TC_Halogen; 07-12-2014 at 12:32 AM.. |

if by this you mean the bursts during i guess what would be the "chorus" section (the first Printer Jam section), i know what you mean about those bursts and i meant to fix it ahaha. the bursts were just kinda like "oh huh how can i spice up this part of the chart" because that part was, yknow, kinda boring to step. either way, sad to see it was too rigid for you |

Re: Untitled Stepmania Pack RELEASED
karera japan was actually harder before but i reduced some of the layering and replaced others with mines. tried my best to make it an easy MA file but i guess the song didn't really allow for it.
also lmao aj you stopped right before quatre mains |
