Scribblenauts
I'm surprised no one has made a thread for this game. It's a puzzle game for the DS where you are presented challenges where you have to collect a "Starite" from each world. There are puzzle levels where you have to complete a task with a given hint and there are action levels where a Starite is in some location guarded by any number of obstacles. The cool part of the game is that to complete these tasks, you are able to write any word (barring copyrighted or suggested material, et al) and that thing will appear on your screen. If you need to blow something up, just summon a bomb or a mine. If you need to fly, summon wings or a jetpack. So basically, the game has infinite solutions to any puzzle.
The main problem with the game is that it requires some amounts of preciseness, and that frankly is not the DS's strong point. Sometimes you have to click very tiny areas, and if you miss the game will read that as you wanting to move across the screen, which often sends you flying into a lava pit or into the hands of Cthulu. It can become very frustrating. I ended up wishing for a mouse and a cursor instead of the stylus on multiple occasions. Despite the control issues, the game is extremely fun, even if you're not completing tasks and just seeing what happens when you put mythological creatures against each other in battle or what happens when you summon a time machine. There were many more moments where I was laughing out loud than moments where I was cursing at the game, and for me, that's a pretty good ratio. So I give it 8/10. Anyone else play this yet?

Re: Scribblenauts
playing it right now, fun as hell
I'm actually shocked at how much they put in this game also, dore, try to make a custom level on metro puzzle 2-9 and tell me if your game just blacks out, it has for me and two of my friends and i'm wondering if all the games **** up with that level |

Re: Scribblenauts
I've been following this game for months, and was super excited when it came out.
Then I beat the first stage and it all crumbled around me. Seriously, the control is ****ing awful. I love everything about the game except for the fact that more often than not, it is unplayable. I shouldn't have to fight the controls and lose stages time and time again because of how broken the control mechanisms are. Honestly, I've had to resort to using the same thing to beat just about every level (which is a Helicopter with a rope attatched to whatever I want to move) because it's the only way you can reliably move to where you want to go without accidentally throwing whatever you are trying to carry. To me, it's the most disappointing game I've played this year. You have no idea how much I want to love this game. The graphics are charming, the idea is amazing, and the creativity is top notch. I just wish it was possible to actually have fun with it. Too often I find myself cussing "What the ****ing bull**** type of **** was that? ****ing broken piece of ****."

Re: Scribblenauts
This games already out? *R4's that hoe*
Looked decent, the usual DS games are addicting so I'll probably find myself trying to beat it before 358/2 days come out. Also try to finish up TWEWY. Ughhh, I also want to finish Partner's in Time so I can play Bowser's Inside Story, sorry a little off topic. But I'll check back whenever I play a bit. Re: Scribblenauts
Ha, thanks NFD, wasn't paying attention ;p too excited about Scribblenauts.
Well, just tried it out. Agree with Laharl about the controls, not the best. Took me forever to pick up the glue blob, even though the DS is calibrated to hell. Finished the tutorials, went as far as 1-11 then said NOPE! Ain't gonna cut it for me. I like the whole use of various vocabulary, but I'm not going risk headaches so I can have kids eating MY pizza, and drinking MY soda! D: Though, I did find it really funny when I wrote "dick" and got Dick Tracy? |
