Default Another offset question

Hey guys! I just started out with this and I'm currently trying to configure the R^3 engine to work similar to my StepMania 5 installation.

So, I noticed in SM that my old keyboard has a lot of delay when hitting notes, and through some adjusting I got it to work perfectly if the StepMania global offset is set to -0.042 (I guess that's seconds here!?).

Now how does this translate to the two offsets in the R^3 engine? From what I read from justin_ator a couple of threads below, the "global offset" in SM is the "judge offset" here, is that correct? And how do those numbers translate? Are the FFR offsets named by some other measure?

Thanks in advance!

PS: Right now, I achieved the best result (after only a couple of tries though) with a global offset 0 and judge offset -0.5. So maybe the -0.5 translates to -0.05 in SM?

Global offset = music offset, shifts notes up or down relative to the music/audio
Judge offset = timing offset, shifts the center of the timing window up or down, and changes nothing visually.

Note that units here are frames, so an offset of 1 is like an offset of 33 miliseconds (if you want to use decimal offsets, you need to make sure FFR is running above 30 fps by changing the framerate in options.)

FFR runs at 30 frames per second (or frames of 1/30 seconds each or about .033 seconds). The offsets are the number of frames a particular thing is offset (global for music and steps, judge for judgments). A -0.5 judgement offset will adjust the judgement windows by about -.0165 seconds. R^3 does some neat rounding stuff to achieve fractional offsets. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

I find the SM judgement windows to be a smidge earlier (relative to receptors) on SM than on FFR. It's likely just a result of SM having a more precise arrow scrolling system. That could explain the remaining difference between your sm and ffr offsets.

Gah, halfstep got it first.

Pretty sure the offsets are different because 0 offset in SM puts you in the center of the marvelous timing whereas 0 offset in FFR puts you at the start of the center perfect (or amazing)

Thanks a lot! I'm going to have to fiddle around with that tomorrow morning, too much of a hassle now, since I tried another song where the "old" -0.5 offset didn't work at all^^ so I must have picked songs for which I should have chosen different global offsets.

Are there any songs that are known to be "very well synced"?

shameless plug but both of my files (44 edit and guile of the rime king) are pretty much perfectly synced
